Craitland vs. Mercury ólbescból friendly
*Played 9th August*
The first ever international ólbescból match was held yesterday between Craitland, the nation where the sport was born as has been played to a professional level for a number of years, and Mercury, whose team included players who have been playing the sport for less than a year. The Mercurians also called-up two professional footballers looking to expand their horizons; FMF World Cup back-up goalkeeper Jonathan Foster and Mercury City's Frankie Balzary, who scored in the EMUFA Champions' League, were included for their respective skill sets. The Craitish side included two players who have been awarded the Player of the Year award over the past three years, in Älekä Tór Ämo and Mikel Juliaĵsen, with five other household names - three of whom have won the league - receiving call-ups.
As expected, it was Craitland who dominated the game. The experienced skills of their players were far superior, and the Mercurians were unable to hold-on to possession for more than half a minute at a time. The Craits, on the other hand, were more than capable of out-passing Mercury, scoring consecutive ólbs in the same play on a number of occasions. However, the hosts didn't have the whole game to themselves during the opening encounters, with Mercury's Chris Taylor scoring the opening two points with powerful kicks from the back court. Despite going ahead, Mercury's weakness was their inability to avoid giving away easy fouls, twice giving away penalties soon after scoring to allow Montólio Fórsen finish-off with style to gain six points straight away. With Craitland's rolling substitutes being used more effectively than Mercury's, with players knowing their relative attacking and defensive strengths, the hosts were able to take advantage of plays and scored ten ólbs in ten minutes without reply. Mercury pulled two points back in the last ten minutes of the half, but Craitland's Yaqin Petersen curled in a fantastic finish just before the hooter after Jonathan Foster's goalkeeping skills came in useful to block a number of efforts. The score at half-time was 20-4 to Craitland.
After the break, Craitland didn't let-up and their expertise in using substitutes frequently came to their benefit as the players' fitness clearly showed. Even though Mercury were again the first to get on the scoresheet, through Taylor, a contact foul allowed Ämo to score a goal before F'aĵmek and K'aärm both added three ólbs to the board either side of Balzary and Whitehead hitting the target. Petersen scored twice midway through the half, and an Aärel penalty extended the Craits' lead even further. As the match drew to a close, it was clear Mercury weren't going to threaten Craitland's extensive lead, even with Parker adding a point, and league winners Ĵars' captain Mikel Juliaĵsen made a late appearance and scored Craitland's final two ólbs in the last four minutes to seal a 38-7 win.
With this match being more of an exhibition of the sport of ólbescból, rather than a game to gauge the strength of neither the Craitish nor Mercurian sides, the score was not important. Even though they were heavily beaten, Mercury were given a standing ovation by both the Craitish team and the crowd for being brave enough to tackle some of the biggest names in a sport they've only just been introduced to. Hopefully this match will create more interest in ólbescból outside of Craitland and maybe create the possibility of further international matches!

Shame we were unable to reach 10 points, but I'm happy with that for a first ever game Can't wait to get a proper set of rules and get some more games going now
