Re: Fnord Awards 2014
January 1st has passed, and the nomination period has closed. Here's the nomination overview for 2014:
Award for Best New Idea ("the Josh"): The Apollonian Confederation for its potential to "shed some light on some of our own fundamental opinions on micronationalism." (whatever that means)
Award for Conflict Resolution ("the Beard"): Christos Eucalyptos and Emperor Nathaniel of Natopia for their "very amazing rapprochement between Stormark, Alexandria and Natopia and the ongoing conference in Thalassa"; Janus Eadric for "being the last man to hold onto his sanity in Shireroth's Imperial Advisory Council when Kildare seceded"; Rasmus for "pretty much the same thing"; the governments of Natopia and Stormark; Ryker for "peacekeeping in Shireroth".
Award for Cultural Development: Iain, for "being the main driving force behind so much of Natopia's prosperity, activity, and keeping Natopia on track"; Rasmus for the Gong Federation; Aryeztur for cultural development in Aryasht; Barnaby Hands, Ryan and Jonas for work in the Apollonian Confederation; Ric for continued work in Elwynn
Award for Economics ("the Andreas"): Duke Sinclair for economic work in Hamland and being "he main force in Micrasian economics in recent months"; Ross Kilder for economic work in Gotzborg.
Award for Art ("the Artz"): Rasmus for "cute goblins"; Bjorn Olsen for the Gotzborg anniversary logo; Ryker for "banners and graphics"; Jonas for his map of Apollo City and general artwork in the Apollonian Confederation; Gillis Björk for the creation of the "amazingly beautiful" Fulltrui Map of Stormark; Marcus Myxos for his drawings.
Award for History ("the RIMA"): Stellus Yastreb for history of Goldshire; Shyriath for his work in Tieya at the Empire of Sangun and South Cibola.
Award for Journalism ("the Iain"): The Micras Observer for "new insights"; Liam for writing in the Coprietta Standard.*
Award for Leadership ("the Mortis"): Ryker for handling the secessions of Kildare and Aryasht in Shireroth; Harald of Stormark for the fact that he has managed to rule over Stormark and being a regent in Alexandria; Ric for work in Natopia and leadership in the Landsraad; Rasmus for successful leadership of the Gong Federation; Christophos Eucalyptos and Nathan for "steering Natopia through many changes".
Award for Literature ("the Jeremy"): Harald for Storjarla Fjǫrleif's First Execution; Shyriath for the re-emergence and accession of Kaiser Mors IV storyline; Ryker for something New Age-ish; Stellus Yastreb for his "great play".
Award for Sport (which I propose nicknaming "the Craitman"): Carl for continuing doing football stuff; Barnaby Hands for the same thing.
Award for Most Promising New Micronation: Gong Federation; Apollonian Confederation;
Award for Most Promising New Micronationalist ("the Liam"): James Knight for having "delved straight in and has shown some new enthusiasm for a good amount of things".
Award for Overall Achievement ("the Shane"): Harald for "his numerous invaluable contributions and benevolent and wise leadership to several countries (and parts thereof) ever since he entered the hobby in August 2002"; Edgard Portella for "more than decade of long involvement and ability to have kept Alexandria quite successful as a micronation during that time"; Rasmus for "admin stuff and work in Gong and ARSE".
Award for "'Tis but a flesh wound": Ryker for a little faux-pas.
*unclear if this is a nomination for literature or for journalism, I have decided to put this under journalism, since that seems to me the most obvious choice.
Judges will now sit in conclave.

Re: Fnord Awards 2014
FYI - Opyeme Time of Hamland and Duke Sinclair are the same person. And Ross Kilder did economic work in Gotzborg, not Hamland.

Re: Fnord Awards 2014
Also, Barnaby and Carl's Sport nominations were for association football (FMF) and gridiron football (MGFL), respectively
Would you like a voting subforum created for the Judges, as in previous years?

Re: Fnord Awards 2014
There should now be a forum at the top of the index that's only accessible to the three Judges (and myself, for general admin reasons)

Re: Fnord Awards 2014
Congratulations to all those who won and were nominated for the awards. Just by being nominated for each award, you were singled out as a leader in the community in that field, and I think that's important to keep in mind. I'd like to thank Giles for nominating the Coprieta Standard and the judges for honouring it with this year's FNORD Award in Journalism, especially with a worthy new competitor, the Micras Observer, having entered the stage this year.
Re: Fnord Awards 2014
It's never been clearly defined to me; what is the Flesh Wound one for? Recovering from an incident of some sort?
Re: Fnord Awards 2014
It's a Monty Python reference, and it means you successfully coped with the dismemberment of Shireroth, treating it with indifference despite its severity.
