Fnord Awards 2014

Re: Fnord Awards 2014
You're welcome
After racking my brains through the other categories, I would like to additionally nominate Shyriath Bukolos for the Award for Literature ("the Jeremy"), for his absolutely epic narration of the re-emergence and accession of Kaiser Mors IV to the Shirerithian throne, which was fourteen months in the making. If anything is going to beat The Arse End Of Apollonia to the award, it should be this.

Barnaby Hands - bailing the FMF out on two Champions' Leagues, not to mention organising competitions in Apollonian Confederation #ShamelessSelfNominationAward for Sport
Barely fair considering all the rest of (yourself included) who are just as active and enthusiastic in sport(which I propose nicknaming "the Craitman")

I'm not sure you've got the idea of nicknaming the awards yetSenya wrote:Barely fair considering all the rest of (yourself included) who are just as active and enthusiastic in sport(which I propose nicknaming "the Craitman")
I'll whack some nominations in tomorrow, by the way, when I'm not half-asleep and on my mobile!
Re: Fnord Awards 2014
Well I am just tickled pink y'all. Shucks
Of course I second the nominations of Krasniy, Edgard, and Jack on all accounts.

Re: Fnord Awards 2014
I feel old and reasonable now.Yastreb wrote:Award for Conflict Resolution ("the Beard"):
Janus Eadric (Edgard), for being the last man to hold onto his sanity in Shireroth's Imperial Advisory Council when Kildare seceded, and moving to normalise the situation in the Landsraad while the rest of us were still spouting steam from our ears - thereby preventing a protracted and bloody conflict. I also nominate Rasmus for pretty much the same thing.
Re: Fnord Awards 2014
Oh, thank you!Edgard wrote:Oh, and I forgot - for Conflict Resolution... I nominate Christos Eucalyptos and Emperor Nathaniel of Natopia. They've gotten a very amazing rapprochement between Stormark, Alexandria and Natopia going and the ongoing conference in Thalassa is going very well and will yield amazing results.
---
I would like to nominate Rasmus for the graphic arts award. His goblins in Gong Li are so cute and adorable and they deserve all the praise possible.
Re: Fnord Awards 2014
I would also like to nominate Christophos Eucalyptos of Natopia for the leadership award. Christo has, during his tenure as imperial chancellor, steered Natopia through many changes. Natopia went from being a dominion to a Bovic Tapferite Empire, an emperor was inaugurated and then died, a new emperor hailed. Relations with other countries flourished. Under his government, Natopia's territory expanded greatly as well as Natopian activity and cultural development.
Re: Fnord Awards 2014
I agree with the points you bring forward but I would like to nominate Nathan, as the real leadership he shows seems not to be tied to one character.Ric wrote:I would also like to nominate Christophos Eucalyptos of Natopia for the leadership award. I'd also like to awkwardly nominate myself for literature for my New Age storyline.
Re: Fnord Awards 2014
Thank you for the nominations, Ed, Ric, and Ras, I'm quite humbled. Each year in micronations seems so dull while we're in the middle of it, but really, look at all this stuff that happened this year. I agree with all the other nominations and am not jealous of the judges this year since all the nominees have done amazing work.
Award for Best New Idea ("the Josh"): ARSE. Although it began roughly, abruptly, and amid intense suspicion and distrust, and the debate around its purpose and m.o. still exists (does it want prolonged conflict with Shireroth? does micronationalism need conflict? how can we enjoy conflict if we're distrustful of each other?) it has shown us that history can be burdensome, things can change, and has maybe shed some light on some of our own fundamental opinions on micronationalism. I'm putting this here instead of new micronation since I'm really more interested in the idea of ARSE as it relates to the hobby rather than the specific details of its culture (which is impressive, don't get me wrong!).
Award for Cultural Development: Iain, for being the main driving force behind so much of Natopia's prosperity, activity, and keeping us on track. He's expanded Natopia's reach beyond Tapfer to Arboria and the Skerries and also kept us grounded in our goals on our home continent. The "Erion Strategic Defense Review" greatly expanded our military infrastructure, built new bases, refocused our resources, and even built new towns as part of his all-encompassing cultural stimulus plans. As Minister of State he was instrumental in negotiating for the annexation of Walstadt. Lindstrom City, a city known for its architecture, laid relatively untouched for years until the Erion Urban Renewal Plan rerouted streets, converted green spaces and pedestrian malls, and made the city center more pleasant and government buildings more secure with a canal. He did the unthinkable and refreshed the Natopian flag.
Award for Leadership ("the Mortis"): Ric, for infusing a new life into Natopia by using Nathaniel (the son of two of our now-dead characters) to unite Elwynn and Natopia in personal union and so many other little fiefs across the world into a substantial personal empire. Although the Ayreon-Waffelian Empire is now split it was a magnificent story arc, and indeed, the biography of Nathaniel touched so many nations and stories throughout his life that it would be hard to see 2014 without him. This could also go in cultural development, but I think the poise and dignity that Ric brought to Natopia in restoring its monarchy and imperial traditions provided a stable base that other Natopians were able to build around. He was the standard bearer to bring about the resolution and warming of Storish-Natopian relations. In the earlier part of this year I was totally disillusioned with Natopia and the hobby, but Ric swooped in and re-branded the face of Natopia and led us down a brighter path. (Thank you :-*)

Seconded, wholeheartedly. I believe Harald is the very person this award is designed for. Long overdue in my opinion, and quite shocking he hasn't been honored by a FNORD yet.High King Harald of Stormark for the Award for Overall Achievement ("the Shane") for his numerous invaluable contributions and benevolent and wise leadership to several countries (and parts thereof) ever since he entered the hobby in August 2002, especially Stormark which became one of the most successful, stable, influential and well-lasting nations of the sector.

Re: Fnord Awards 2014
Nom-nom-nominations:
Cultural Development: Jezza Rasmus - I quite like everything going-on in Gong since its foundation.
Award for Economics: Duke Sinclair - The main force in Micrasian economics in recent months.
Award for Sport: Carl - Anyone who perseveres with gridiron football long enough to get some matches played is doing something right.
Award for Most Promising New Micronationalist: James Knight ("nexxusdrako") - Has delved straight in and has shown some new enthusiasm for a good amount of things.
Award for Overall Achievement: Seconded Harald.
I'd also like to motion that the Best New Micronation award be nicknamed "the New Victoria"

Re: Fnord Awards 2014
Award for Cultural Development: A number of people deserve to be included in this category: Rasmus for his work in Gong, Barnaby Hands (yeah, the Senyan guy) for his awesome cooperation in the war between Senya and A.R.S.E., Ryan/Orion for his work in A.R.S.E. (religious and other cultural stuff). Ric for his continued work in Elwynn.
Oh, and I would also like to shamelessly nominate myself for my work in Apollonia (not only the pictures, but background stories, etc.).
Award for Art ("the Artz"): Marcus Myksos with his awesome artwork, which you can find in Central Kildare. Just take a look at our 'Iron Throne'.
Award for Literature ("the Jeremy"): Stellus Yastreb for his great play. It's a must read.
Award for Journalism ("the Iain"): Jack for his Micras Observer for his new insights.
Award for Leadership ("the Mortis"): Rasmus for his successful leadership of the Gong Federation. There were never before this many goblins who could enjoy such a good life as under his benevolent rule.
Award for Sport (which I propose nicknaming "the Craitman"): Barnaby Hands as he not only does his job properly but also has spread micronational sport (at least, soccer) to the A.R.S.E. (and now the Apollonian Confederation).
Award for Most Promising New Micronation: It probably speaks for itself that I add the Apollonian Confederation and Gong Li to this list. Since its creation we have had unexpected developments and successes: a smooth independence from the government in Shirekeep, we attracted some of the older guard and have been able to interact with our neighbours (Flanders and Senya). The future looks promising and I look forward to it.
Award for "'Tis but a flesh wound": Ryker for his little faux pas.
Award for Overall Achievement ("the Shane"): I'm not really sure if anyone deserves this one... there are so many facets to micronationalism and I don't really have the feeling that there is anyone who can claim they should receive a price for overall achievement.
