I agree about reducing the categories. Maybe the judges should pick ~6 categories, perhaps by looking back to see which categories have historically attracted the most nominations.

I also agree with reducing the number of categories. Some of them simply aren't relevant. We should also explore the idea of new categories given how the hobby has evolved. For example, a 'Best Wiki' category would be very applicable.

Great idea! We need to encourage use of MicrasWiki with something like this!Orion wrote:For example, a 'Best Wiki' category would be very applicable.

Re: Fnords 2015
The wiki idea is a good one. I'd suggest "Best Wiki Page" or something more descriptive than just "Best Wiki" though.
Re: Fnords 2015
This is sort of crucial because if it would be about the page, I'd nominate something else than I would if it was about the category or theme.Liam Sinclair wrote:The wiki idea is a good one. I'd suggest "Best Wiki Page" or something more descriptive than just "Best Wiki" though.

Re: Fnords 2015
Would we also be nominating pages, or would it be individual contributors, or even nations' wiki input as a whole? And would it just be purely for MicrasWiki, because a few nation-specific wikis have had some decent work added this year too?
I'm fine with the number of categories and don't think they're superfluous. If nobody's done anything particularly noteworthy for one of them one year, we just won't award it. It would seem strange to abolish a category and then have to reinstate it the following year if a decent project is deserving of it
And thanks, Ric

Just nominate away! Whatever you feel is worthy of a nomination regardless of whether or not the category exists
Re: Fnords 2015
I think this is subject to discussion. For one, I'm not all that familiar with MicroWiki, even though I've tried to make headway into that realm (maybe I'm just too old... meh). But you bring up an important point. We could perhaps either have several wiki categories, or even have sub-categories that fall within the whole "wiki" realm (although this may be underrating the wikiers).Craitman wrote:Would we also be nominating pages, or would it be individual contributors, or even nations' wiki input as a whole? Along the same lines... Does anyone still do websites? We could also have a "best website" category.
Perhaps we should open a forum so as not to clutter up this forum?

Re: Fnords 2015
I don't think we'd consider anything from MicroWiki, as it's barely relevant to this community, so I wouldn't worry there. I'm not sure multiple wiki-related awards would be necessary either; I'd see it similar to the Sport award in that it's kind of a "break-out" from Cultural Development for an area with increasing popularity/input, if that makes senseOrion wrote:I think this is subject to discussion. Oddly enough, Jan. 8 will also be ASC 6000.
Just thought I'd mention it.

Re: Fnords 2015
Well, I'd better nominate someone. I'll make a judging subforum tomorrow for all that stuff too - we're not obligated to get everything announced on the 8th, are we?
Cultural Development (or Wiki, if that gets instated): Gerald Ruze. Some great work on the wiki for Gerenia and with a lot of changes being documented.
Sport: James-Robert Knight. Consistent work with Vyktory and additional growth in more international areas too.
Art: Jonas. Renderings of buildings in the city of Epoli.

Come on people, nominate, the judges don't want to have to come up with the nominations themselves.

And self-nominations are perfectly acceptable as well!Jack wrote:Come on people, nominate, the judges don't want to have to come up with the nominations themselves.
Re: Fnords 2015
It could be argued (and I seem to recall has been argued) that the only thing less dignified than continuing the FNORDs is being so desperate for one that you would nominate yourself. Bloc nomination however is marginally less ridiculous, and in this spirit I nominate Shyriath for the Jeremy Award for Literature for his tale of esoteric archaeology in olde Mikrashot. To sweeten the pill I also nominate Ardy for this little gem.
I nominate Hallbjörn for the RIMA Award for History for positively spamming the ShireWiki with everything that ever happened in Elwynn. Even if one considers it a distasteful exercise in Froyalanite revisionism (but who could think such a thing?) one has to recognise the sheer effort required in committing such a stupendous volume of content into wiki form. I got the RIMA last year for considerably less, so you've got no excuse here.
I nominate Nathan for the Mortis Award for Leadership in two capacities: one as Emperor Naian of Natopia who has spent the last year dealing with seemingly endless diplomatic and legislative shenanigans by Walstadters, Stormarkers and Rics - and secondly as Kaiseress Kizzy of Shireroth who held her dignity and resolve when that ancient state almost died giving birth to a little smiling Shrub among other trying events... all while remaining fahbulous, dahling!
And finally, why the hell not... I nominate myself for 'Tis but a flesh wound, for reasons I'm sure the judges can appreciate
Peace out
