Re: [New forum] Structure of organisation
I really like how that wiki article explains it. While I understand we can't have something that detailed, would it be possible to reference that article as a link in the guidelines?
The only reason I brought up the language issue is because, firstly, we already have participation in the MCS from some non-English nations like Batavia and Interland. And while they're not all that participatory in things, wouldn't it be nice if they did participate more? I just don't think banning everything besides English is a way to get across that we want other people to participate here. My second reason is that I recall a point, this being back shortly before I retired from the position of Orbis Tyrannus, as some would call it, we were getting a good deal of interest and interaction from the German and French sectors - Ratelon, Seborga, and several others I can't recall. The point is that at the time we had a lot of discussions going on in other languages, and people who were able to were more than willing to translate if we asked them to. It was very encouraging to have that kind of interaction going on, and I simply would not wish to discourage that. I understand I'm in the minority here, and I do not wish to be a hindrance; but is there a way we could at least word that differently so it sounds less confrontational?
Maybe something like this:

>English is the primary language spoken by the majority of users on this board. It is therefore expected of users to accept that English is to be used in the context of all communication on the forum. For those whose first language is not English, automatic translation is perfectly acceptable!

Yeah, I fully understand where you're coming from on that one. We should probably adopt a permissive policy that can become restrictive if it needs to, rather than an initially restrictive one, replaced it with your wording. Also, link to WP:POINT included.
Re: [New forum] Structure of organisation
Ryan, your wording is fine by me.
I'm not trying to be opressive and stamping out people's languages or anything, but merely look at the practical problems associated with a bi- or multi-lingual forum. Someone's gunna need to translate something. Having multiple languages accepting and thriving only creates a divide between the groups.

Re: [New forum] Structure of organisation
I understand and can appreciate your points regarding the difficulty of administrating a multilingual forum. Having re-worded the guideline, I think that will be sufficient.
I think we can move forward with adopting the charter now, no?

Yup, we should try to leave it to go without replies for a couple of days just to be sure.
