[New forum] Administrators and moderators
Under the charter of the hub, the community will select (by consensus) the first administrators and moderators. (Note: in future, moderators will be selected by the council of moderators).
I therefore invite, with no particular authority whatsoever, anyone who is interested to put their names forward as either administrators or moderators. To remind you all, moderators take decisions as to the moderation of behaviour, and will not have technical functions. Administrators operate and maintain the forum, and will not have moderating functions (unless "a member is in gross violation of the community guidelines and no moderator is available").
There is no set limit to to number of administrators or moderators, but a sensible minimum would seem to be 3 and 5 respectively.
I first nominate dr-spangle as an administrator, obviously!

Re: [New forum] Administrators and moderators
Depends how it'll be structured an' that, but I might as well put my name down for being an Admin - seeing as I'm AdGen here and experience shows I'm not the type to abuse that power...

Excellent, we weren't sure whether you wanted to continue but it'd be great to have you!

Re: [New forum] Administrators and moderators
I've just not wanted to get involved in the new forum discussions as I didn't have the time initially and didn't want anyone to feel like I was stifling their suggestions and ideas. I'm just going to go with it all as it's a worthwhile change, in my eyes

Re: [New forum] Administrators and moderators
I dare say I would be interested in a role within the hosting/hosted sites department.
Re: [New forum] Administrators and moderators
I wouldn't mind being an administrator, moderator, or both. Whatever is needed really.

I would like to submit my name for consideration for Moderator or Administrator.

Re: [New forum] Administrators and moderators
I could be the second or third techie, but I don't want to be a mod - unless I dig through urban dictionary (and manage to find any definition not made by a troll) I'm not able to catch the nuances in people's vocab.

Re: [New forum] Administrators and moderators
So far:
Potential administrators
Dr-Spangle
Guido Zambelis
Cairney
Pawel
Craitman
Potential moderators
Ryan
Chris
CJ
Harvey
(I realise a differentiation has been made, but of those I've listed under Administrators, they all stated a desire to be admins and not mods. Obviously if you want to change that's not a problem!)

Re: [New forum] Administrators and moderators
Can I suggest that forum administrators and moderators are a lot like politicians, in that anyone who really wants to be one should, for that reason alone, be ineligible for the job?
The best choice for forum admins and mods are quiet techie people who rarely have strong opinions about anything and are usually too unsure of themselves to make a fuss about them even when they do. To me that means Spangle, Ari, maybe Pawel, and for some odd reason I trust Craitman here also.
Anyone who gets in a lot of arguments, who's suspected of being power-hungry, who's short-tempered, or the like, should automatically have a big red flag next to their name. And before anyone accuses me of a power grab, I totally admit I'm in at least two of those categories.
Although if Ryan becomes a mod, I should be too, if only to prevent him from abusing his power to add more frickin' islands.

On a similar note to Scott's post I wouldn't be interested in an Admin role. I'm not, as you'd say, professional.

Is this meant as a joke or are you being serious?Scott Alexander wrote:Although if Ryan becomes a mod, I should be too, if only to prevent him from abusing his power to add more frickin' islands.
Scott's snide remarks aside, are we going to implement a safety net for admins and mods to ensure if someone goes inactive there will be ample manpower available to continue running things seamlessly?
