Hah, I do! I like how that kind-of whimsical first paragraph fits on there fully. Very nice.Maximos wrote:SaiKar the article on Nelaga is now featured on the MicrasWiki front page. Feel proud.

Spangle, love the work you do. You're a big inspiration. Is it possible to resize the Wiki logo on MicrasWiki so it fits better?

Re: Some ideas for MicrasWiki
Heeeeeelllllloooo. Sorry to bump an old thread but it's a valuable contribution, promise. Besides, you guys aren't overly active anyway, you need all the help you can get. (I swear that guy's just rolling his lip up and down.) Sorry, excuse the 'we'/'you' wording that follows, it's simply easier that way.
Initial opinion after reading the first post is that the backup/sharing articles scheme should be done on MicroWiki. MicroWiki has two thousand more articles than MicrasWiki and is far, far more active than it; you haven't had any edits in the last four days, we've had more than five hundred in the last few hours (mind you, 99% of that was mine, 60% of which was semi-automated, but that's besides the point ). We also have our own version of Wikimedia Commons known as MicroCommons which is our repository for treaties and the like (rather unorganised atm but it's something I plan on cleaning up eventually). I'm not sure if your quest for templates is still relevant (it was written nine months ago), but MicroWiki has quite a few that are easily customisable and I (or someone else) can make others if need be. We also have a cooler main page and theme than you, though admittedly your logo's better.
Anyway, enough pointless comparing and proving how much cooler our wiki is than yours (hey, you're a community based off a map, we're a community based off a wiki; no prizes for guessing who's better at what). It would be better to do such an endeavour on MicroWiki for the simple reason that Micras nations are a part of MicroWiki's scope while MicroWiki nations aren't a part of MicrasWiki's (a couple of threads and previous discussions about it in here explains that). So it would be rather illogical for you to have a backup copy of something that isn't really related to your wiki while it would make sense for us to have something that is (plus we need to interact more ). I realise many of us (both sides) aren't super-duper fond of the other, but, what with all the ideological talk about getting closer together, this seems like a perfect opportunity to actually do something about it. (I promise in the holidays I'll get around to claiming land on Micras. Maybe. )
Maximos' comments about Micras having its own wiki so as to "increase [y]our sense of community" I assume are mostly irrelevant now, considering you have the Hub and various forums which is what most of your activity seems to revolve around these days. Article sharing sounds fine by me, though again judging by past discussions, I'm not sure if you'd be fine with MicroWiki nations staking a claim on the MicrasWiki. Spangle's comments about the free wiki host were also very accurate in hindsight; they forced a hideous skin on everyone, causing much of their userbase to move, hence MicroWiki's current location. Also, what Guido said.
Aaaand, the rest seem to be just discussing articles you need. So, in short, I think Micras (the community) should have a presence on MicroWiki (the wiki), for the betterment of both the MicroWiki and Micras communities, and I'd even put an idea out there and suggest that perhaps MicrasWiki should, in the long term, become one and the same with MicroWiki. I know, I know, I'm going to get yelled at for being extremely biased and wanting 'you' to integrate into 'us', but this is for the benefit of both communities (a single MicroWiki-and-Micras-sectors wiki) and that's the extent to which anything can be done wiki-wise. Also keep in mind that MicrasWiki completely integrating into MicroWiki is one extreme and at least one of you will no doubt suggest something on the other end of the spectrum, so perhaps we can find a compromise. If you're willing to give it a go, Fishy and I can try to convince everyone on MicroWiki that Micras nations aren't big, bad and evil, and we might even be able to figure out a way in which to carry over some of your admins onto MicroWiki. I dunno, your choice. I've shown my hand, next move's yours.

You only need to keep Parker and Bradley quietaldrich_lucas wrote:If you're willing to give it a go, Fishy and I can try to convince everyone on MicroWiki that Micras nations aren't big, bad and evil, and we might even be able to figure out a way in which to carry over some of your admins onto MicroWiki. Re: Some ideas for MicrasWiki
So, anyone from Micras have any opinion on the matter?
You should also be interested to note that I've added {{Simulationist}} and {{Micras}} which I've gone around adding to all the Micras articles. I've also changed {{Fantasy}} so that it's merely a statement of fact as opposed to any potential discrimination against nations who incorporate elements of fantasy in them. Feel free to suggest changes in wording etc, if you think it could be improved.

Re: Some ideas for MicrasWiki
Not sure the eye-rolling is gonna create the responses you want to hear
Despite being the MCS's AdminGen, my input on MicrasWiki isn't that huge/existant, but it'd definitely be good to get more mutual articles on our two wikis, especially as we're trying to lessen the gulf between our two occasions and there's a few MicroWiki-based nations claiming on Micras now
However, I think one thing that may put people off the idea of transferring/copying their MicrasWiki articles over to MicroWiki is the whole "fantasy warning" headers that used to be put on any articles about non-Earth-based nations. Granted, I've not kept-up with you guys for a bit, so you might have taken them off nowadays without me noticing, but those were a downside and I've seen a few people look as MicroWiki warily beforehand because of them.
Like I said, I'm not hugely involved with MicrasWiki, or MicroWiki for that matter, but those are my thoughts. Put them down as an outsider's point-of-view or something
EDIT: Just saw your edit, Aldrich, so I guess my penultimate paragraph's moot now

Re: Some ideas for MicrasWiki
Thanks for your comments.
However I would say that the fact that MicroWiki nations are wholly based on a Wiki makes their use of MicroWiki more problematic for us rather than less. The activity of MicroWiki compared to MicrasWiki is also a moot point as it's entirely irrelevant to this community's use of our Wiki- as I said, MicrasWiki is for Micran nations and as the name suggests, unless nations have land on Micras their pages don't belong there. How many of those edits on your Wiki have actually been about Micran nations? Very few, I'd imagine. Micras should use whichever Wiki Micrans contribute to more, and I'd hazard a guess that it's MicrasWiki. If it's not, then I'd still push to get them using MicrasWiki more anyway.
I have no objection to MicroWiki, I just feel that many MicroWiki users would probably get irritated at having to wade through reams of irrelevant Micran articles taking up their Wiki space, and I believe the reverse would probably be felt here. I for one would probably not contribute to a Wiki not based solely around Micran affairs.
I think we're both approaching it from the wrong angle, however. MicroWiki and MicrasWiki are both Wikis of certain sectors of this hobby. Therefore, it's not unreasonable to suppose that pages about Micras on MicroWiki will have less of a place there than pages exclusively for Wiki-based nations (as proved by the deletion of certain historical Micran articles from MicroWiki in the past to save space). The reverse would be, and is, true of MicrasWiki. The question is not about whether pages on Wiki-based nations can be in MicrasWiki, it's to what extent.
A good compromise could be for example Micran nations having brief, outlined pages on MicroWiki which then can link to more detailed ones on MicrasWiki if the reader wants a more in-depth summary. Seems reasonable.
Comparing 'which Wiki is cooler' won't really get us anywhere. Numerous micronations in the MCS use their own Wikis (Alexandria, Shireroth, Natopia, Antica, Batavia, Ashkenatza to name but a few)- having your own encyclopedia is something a lot of people are fond of and by extension I think some of us are fond of Micrans having their own.
Like me. I like MicrasWiki, and have many new articles on the go for the near future- you can copy them to MicroWiki if you really want but I'll always do them on MicrasWiki first and those are the articles I'll update regularly.
EDIT: Just to take you up on your point about the Wiki being a 'sense of community' or something. MicrasWiki, unlike MicroWiki, is not supposed to be a community or the focus of one in its own right. This community has always revolved around a centralised forum- whether it was MNN, the MCS, or Hub.MN, MicrasWiki's only job has been to record the community rather than act as a substitute for it. Hub.MN doesn't change anything- it was created as a way to make a general micronational forum disaffiliated from the MCS, which fulfilled that role for a couple of years after MNN died.
