I'm in the process of updating articles which are about territories that once belonged to Shireroth but now belong to Jingdao. One of the first articles I decided to work on is the one on Melangia. It was written in a style that might have been enjoyed by the inner circle that was responsible for the island at the time, but I found it very difficult to rewrite. There is an article about it on the Shirewiki too which states that the people there have gills. Not something I wish to acknowledge to be fair.
Are there any guidelines on issues like this where a territory is transferred to another nation? How should history be written in cases like this?

Looking at the changes you've made to the article, you've included a link to "Milancha", which is apparently the Jingdaoese name for Melangia. Why not, for the sake of clarity and so that the work put into the region during Shireroth's administration isn't overwritten, use an article entitled "Milancha" for the region's current situation and recent history under Jingdao (leaving "Melangia" for its former incarnation)?
For example, see the difference in the articles for Tyrenia (focusing on the defunct city-state) and Tiě Gǎng (for the same settlement, but under its Jingdaoese guise)

Depends whether you'll be making a separate article for Milancha or not...

One alternative would be to find your own damn land I think so long as the history is recorded somewhere, the wiki should reflect the current situation. If there is a major dichotomy between current and past use to the extent that the article cannot be rewritten, maybe the old page could be renamed as 'Melangia (Shireroth)' with a banner at the top reading something like "This page is about the historical territory belonging to x. For the current territory, see [[Melangia]]." Thoughts?

What I have now done is naming it "history and mythology before Jingdaoese conquest" so the reader can decide what is history and what is myth... The Jingdaoese history will be in the Milancha article.

That works. As long as the Shireroth-related part of the history is in past tense, it should be clear that's not how things currently are
