Re: EMU '11
I'm really surprised the scoreline was that large! Still, that's our first EMU title, so we don't have to win the World Cup this year
Re: EMU '11
We keep on climbing on the ranking, but we didn't get any title yet!!!Craitman wrote:I'm really surprised the scoreline was that large! Still, that's our first EMU title, so we don't have to win the World Cup this year
I will keep my fingers crossed for this WC.

We're going to say that this match was played on Wednesday, because our league starts today so we need our players home.

Re: EMU '11
*Played 6th July*
Taeland 1-2 Mercury
Oesst Darrä Arenä, Hänävissen-ó-Cräiteland
Taeland and Mercury faced-off in what was unofficially billed as the EMU '11 7th place play-off the day following the final of the championships in Craitland. Taeland, who finished a disappointing fourth in Group A, two points behind Nova English Korea, were looking to improve on their build-up for the FMF World Cup in Shireroth next month by playing the young Mercurians, who managed to earn four points in a very tough Group B.
Taeland, as many had expected, were the first to score as a dominant first twenty minutes were capped-off beautifully by Tim Turner. The striker, who was in fine form during the competition, netting four goals, gave his new club AC Zimia something else to smile about as his shot from distance was too powerful for Foster in the Mercury net. Turner received the ball from Juurik Jornson and hit it with his laces on the turn with his second touch. The ball swerved unnaturally in the and was too pacy for Foster, whose dive was too late to get anywhere near the shot which span into the top-right corner of the net. However, the Taes' dominance was soon brought back to reality after Mercury stunned them within minutes. Caught on the counter-attack, bringing truth to the old cliché that you're always most likely to concede straight after scoring, Taeland's defence allowed a Mercurian break run through with a series of very good passes, before Tow Law's Jack Partridge's cheeky turn left him one-on-one with Troblinsk and easily finished past the 'keeper.
Not until the second half did either team really penetrate the other's defence, when Taeland's Jornson skimmed the outside of the Mercurian post with a scuffed shot from inside a crowded box after a corner. However, Mercury made a like-for-like subtitution which paid dividends with twenty minutes remaining; 17 year-old Luke Turner of May Athletic came on for Edward Foxon, two years his junior. Although he had no immediate impact, his goal was absolutely sublime once he had worked his way into the game. Never really considered for the starting line-up, and with little international experience behind him, he picked up the ball just inside his own half out wide on the left, turned, nutmegged Kollingon, and set-off. A surprising turn of pace led the youngster past the experienced Kotosh Níyot and into the middle of the pitch. Continuing more sideways than forwards, he took it past first Graatak and then Perenson before skipping into the box. Troblinsk came out to try and narrow the angle, with Turner now over the opposite side of the box, but was beaten by the winger's clever step-over and drag. Taking the ball back towards the penalty spot, he showed good control to spin past Níyot, who had tracked back, again, before lining-up to slot the ball into the net just beyond the fingertips of the outstretched Troblinsk as Galtrenki's last-ditch attempt at a slide tackle was in vain.
With two terrific, but very different, goals in the match, coming from Turners on both sides, the game was a feast for the spectators but didn't have the right outcome for Taeland, whose preparation for the World Cup isn't fully complete just yet. However, for the young Mercurians, the future yet again looks very bright, and with performances like this, they'll have very few goalless draws to worry about in the years to come!
