Rangers game turns ugly - both on and on the pitch
Violence erupted during last night's Second League clash between Dyas Rangers and FK Tiga, as Rangers were thumped 5-0 by the visitors. Ron Zagreb's slip whilst about to boot the ball downfield allowed Sileman Arten to put Jawa Was's men infront, before Maks Ravit's free-kick found the top corner and Yuri Maaslavika was allowed too much space to make it three before half-time. And after Vincenzo D'Aquila had made it four after tapping home from close ranger just before the hour mark, ugly scenes erupted in the home end, as fights broke out amongst Rangers fans. The game was paused for several minutes after flares and other objects were thrown onto the pitch. The home end calmed down long enough for Arten to head home a fifth in stoppage time, but shortly afterwards more fighting resumed, and on the final whistle, some hooligans ran over to the dug out to try and attack the manager Alan Richardson, whilst other tore down the goalposts.
After the game, fighting continued on the streets before eventually being quelled by police. 17 people were arrested during the violence, which continued into the early hours of the morning.
All this comes just two weeks before Rangers' trip to local rivals Park Prinsipa, a fixture known for violence. The club will be coming under intense scrutiny now, whilst local officials will worry about the possible trouble at the fixture.
