Calbion v Senya (25/01)
Calbion v Senya (25/01)
*Played 25 January 2017*
Senya travelled to Calbion's Caerdragon Stadium for both sides' opening game of the year. With Senya hosting the World Cup in the summer, they are not participating in qualifiers, and so friendly matches will be the order of the day for the next few months. Calbion's CTFA qualifying group schedule means they won't start their campaign until the next matchday, so both sides were given the oppurtunity to play. A friendly match may be devoid of much competitive significance, but both sides wanted to find a bit of form in the new year, and both nations fielded strong sides.
The hosts started off on the front foot, with Llewelyn Wyn-Jones inside ten minutes after he found a bit of space just inside the box, but couldn't quite keep his effort down. Senya responded in similar fashion, with Barnaby Hands making a break down the left flank before crossing in for Jan Maytek, whose header whistled over the crossbar. Hands caused further problems down the left, but Calbion's defence were putting in an excellent shift, clearing anything that was knocked into the box. The game fizzled out towards the end of first half, but neither side could manage to break the other down in a very defensive display.
The second half though started very fast a frantically, and Calbion were very unlucky not to take the lead when a looping header from Arthur Holmes was headed off the line by Jær Van Kotrisbond, falling out to Cedric Ross who hit a first time volley off the crossbar, before Llewelyn Wyn-Jones brought the ball down, had a shot which was saved by Sileman Bɏankarlënœ before slamming the rebound against the post, with the ball finally going out for a goal kick. Senya responded in their usual clinical fashion, with Ƨinkœ Zvet hitting a long ball over the top which Alesandrœ Danetskë took in his stride before dinking the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper and into the net. Calbion almost fell further behind when Barnaby Hands smashed a free-kick onto the bar, before Maytek hit a stinging volley which forced Aluc Jones into an acrobatic stop. But as the game came to an end, Calbion rescued a draw, as Cedric Ross latched onto a rebound from a Wyn-Jones shot, smashing it beyond the goalkeeper with just under five minutes to go, sending the home crowd wild. In the end, a draw was probably a fair result, and a draw against one of Micras' best teams will give Calbion a massive boost going into qualification.
Calbion 1-1 Senya
62' Alesandrœ Danetskë
86' Cedric Ross

A good match indeed!
