Senya v Kingdom of Coria (17/05)
Senya v Kingdom of Coria (17/05)
Coria began their Micras international football career with what a baptism of fire against the reigning Copa Apollonia champions and number 1 ranked side, Senya, in the infamous Snakepit. But whilst most visiting fans, especially of smaller nations come and practically sit for 90 minutes and watch the Naldas make all the noise, it would seem someone other than Gerenia finally got the ultras bug, as Coria's supporters, known as Zeleni, began with a massive pyroshow in the visiting fans' corner. Not that Naldas would have noticed much, as they were busy unveiling a massive a Senyan flag whilst supporters who did not have their heads covered were setting off flares.
Coria's inexperience at this level showed though on the field against a much changed Senyan side, striker Dan Brozal hustled Danijel Despotović and muscled him off of the ball, before unleashing a super strike against Danilo Vujić, who managed to tip the ball behind for a corner. Coria, in their change strip of red, struggled to get a foot hold, and Barnaby Hands, one of just three first team regulars starting for Senya beat three defenders before squaring the ball to Brozal who slotted home beyond the goalkeeper the give the Senyans the lead. Coria, like so many before them, seemed unable to cope with the constant Senyan pressure, and eventually a second goal went in, as Hands made room for himself on the edge of the box, before unleashing a thunderous effort into the top right corner. Had it not been for some more excellent saves it could have been more, but somehow Coria managed to clamber into half-time only 2-0 down.
The second started slowly, not helped by flares that were thrown onto the field from the away end, but Coria were able to cut out some chances for themselves, firstly Momčilo Rakočević hit the bar with a dipping effort from outside the box, before Miomir Blagojević fizzed a header just over the bar. But as Coria ventured forward, Senya countered them, and Brozal finished off one such counter by running 40 yards with the ball 1-on-1, taking the ball past the keeper, and sticking the ball into the empty net infront of t Verte Val. And it finally seemed Coria would collapse when just ten minutes later Brozal ran through and tucked home from a Hands cross, only to be crossed out for offside. Senya were able to make it four in the dying moments, another Hands cross for Brozal was cut-out by Novak Mandić, but the defender could only manage to divert the ball beyond his own goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Overall, whilst the result may have been disappointing for the visitors, they showed character and were able to keep a very good Senya team at bay for long periods of the game. Against weaker opposition, for now, they could be a very decent opposition and big things can be expected of them.
Senya 4-0 Kingdom of Coria
12' Dan Brozal
26' Barnaby Hands
61' Dan Brozal
86' Novak Mandić (o.g.)
