Craitland provisional squad and friendlies 2017
Craitland manager Zyx Dermäna has chosen the thirty players to join the team's summer training squad ahead of the FMF World Cup. A reduction on the 35-strong roster chosen two years ago, these players will aim to prove themselves over four friendlies before being cut down by the 30th to the final 23 to travel to Senya.
All but three of the players joining the side were involved in this year's qualifying games. Striker Tim Isrdlvarien is given a chance despite an interrupted campaign in Hamland, while Sverige midfielder David Loresen is brought back into the international setup following a three-year exile for poor discipline after some credible showings this season. Lastly, Ilt Valmer is the only uncapped addition, with the Kealb captain coming in off the back of a decent goal tally despite his club's lowly table position. Defender Damien Vorgensen is the only player to not be included having appeared in Craitland's Benacia Cup squad last summer, and a record six foreign-based players will be involved. The full thirty are as follows:

Re: Craitland provisional squad and friendlies 2017
*Played 11th June*
Kingdom of Coria 0-2 Craitland
14' - J.M. Juliaĵsen
71' - L. Jonmikeltsen
Coria continued their difficult start to life as an FMF member with a friendly against another heavyweight in Craitland. Following last month's drubbing at Senya, the Corians faced a much-changed Craitland team with primarily fringe players in the starting line-up looking to prove their worth for a place in the final 23 squad for the World Cup.
In what was an eventful opening quarter to the game, the Craits took the lead through Jan-Morteņ Juliaĵsen, with the young striker powering a header from Markko Christiansen's cross in. The goal sparked quite a raucous reaction in the home crowd, with a number of flares finding their way to the pitch and delaying the restart by some minutes. While Craitland remained on top up to the break, the Corians had an excellent opportunity to draw level just before the break, when Miomir Blagojevic stepped up to take a penalty which Sasa Pesic won after a clumsy foul by Ben Hjyngmost. However, Blagojevic's effort was tame, and Tim Ula palmed the ball away comfortably, sparking another angry response from the stands.
Following half time, Craitland introduced Tim Isrdlvarien to win his first cap in almost a year, but it was Coria who created the best chances after the restart. Blagojevic forced another Ula save with a shot from distance before Stefan Pejakovski had a strong shot hit the side netting on the angle. With twenty minutes remaining, Craitland doubled their lead. Isrdlvarien provided the assist, heading the ball on from a forward pass from midfield to find Lydveldt Jonmikeltsen, and the Cherry Trees forward calmly guided the shot across Danilo Vujic's body and into the bottom-left corner. The Corian fans seemed less irate over this goal but, after a quiet final stage of the game in which no additional goals were scored, a small clash between rioters and local police was reported after the match, with a number of arrests somewhat sullying the fixture. The Craits may expect similar scenes in Senya during the World Cup, but a more placid crowd is likely to greet them for their next warm-up friendly in Jingdao on Saturday, however.

Re: Craitland provisional squad and friendlies 2017
*Played 17th June*
Jingdao 0-4 Craitland
52' - J.M. Juliaĵsen
64' - W. Zóma
73' - J.M. Juliaĵsen
80' - A. Keĵinz
An assured second-half performance by the visitors gave Craitland a victory in the first encounter between the two teams, but the result was somewhat marred by a serious looking injury to forward Tór Fredriksen. Using a number of less-experienced players who also faced Coria, the Craits welcomed back a couple of bigger names, with both Ĵulian Ólsen and Hänä Zensen starting, with Jingdao's side preparing for their first World Cup showing calling-up a handful of newly-eligible former-Batavians to try and formulate a strong multicultural squad.
The first 45 minutes were surprisingly quiet, with many pundits expecting a Craitish rout from the outset due to the traditional gulf in class between the two nations, but a well-regimented Jingdaoese defence - playing to the national stereotype - were effective in nullifying the Craitish offence. While Jingdao struggled to test Tim Ula in goal, their own stopper Noel Zidikit was in good form to deny a free-kick from Ólsen with five minutes of the half left. After the break, the Craits came into their own, but only following Tór Fredriksen being stretchered off; the forward was at the receiving end of a bruising tackle from Ram Narasimyam, with a yellow as punishment, and an awkward twist to his ankle forced him off in clear pain. Will Zóma entered the fray as a result, and assisted the first goal minutes afterwards, with a through run and squared ball finding Jan-Morteņ Juliaĵsen unmarked to tap home. That partnership came to fruition once again just over ten minutes later, with a Juliaĵsen header from a cross-field ball being directed straight onto Zóma's boot to be struck home to double the lead. Having conceded, the Jingdaoese back line lost its stability, and a third was scored soon after, with Markko Christiansen meandering his way inside from the left flank before seeing his shot saved, but watching Juliaĵsen stab home his second of the night from the rebound. The Aztecs youngster, whose international strike rate is now an impressive 0.79, was swiftly replaced by Aidan Keĵinz, and the Senyan-based striker added a fourth for Craitland with ten minutes remaining - Keĵinz was also joined by Ilt Valmer on the sideline, who won his first cap in the place of Zensen. Christiansen was again instrumental for the goal, forging a move down the left to do his growing pedigree no harm, before delivering a peach into the box for Keĵinz to head in after breaking free of his marker in the middle of the area.
Jingdao, to their credit, continued to battle despite the Craitish flood of goals over the second half, with the adopted Jowi Bach causing troubles up front, but a lack of tactical adhesion that should be improved before the World Cup meant that sustained pressure was not created. Still expecting to struggle in their début tournament, Jingdao will continue their local preparations, while Craitland now return home for two further matches, versus Passio-Corum and Mercury, between which their final 23-man squad is expected to be named, potentially without Fredriksen.

Re: Craitland provisional squad and friendlies 2017
*Played 23rd June*
Craitland 3-2 Passio-Corum
7' - M. del Rio
42' - A. Perryman
45' - F. Gaärsen
81' - M. Waris
87' - Ĵ. Ólsen
Craitland escaped a slip-up in their World Cup preparations thanks to a late winner against Passio-Corum, whose two goals broke the Craits' three-match run of clean sheets. With Craitland changing their line-up from the previous friendly, as a means of testing as many players as possible before cutting the squad down to 23, Passio-Corum visited in hope of a good game for development ahead of their summer's rest, having narrowly missed-out on qualification.
The Passians struck early, putting Craitland on the back foot, with an impressive goal by winger Mario del Rio seven minutes in. Navy FC teammate Ashani Fairclough played an inch-perfect ball through a gap in the Craits' back line, and Del Rio used his pace to latch on before swerving a low shot past Tim Ula with the outside of his boot. Del Rio, who caused deputy right-back David Jansen problems all match, forced a good save out of Ula ten minutes later through a free-kick, but couldn't double their lead. Craitland went close through captain Freddie Gaärsen, who returned to the starting eleven, with an attempt that kissed the outside of the post after a dash through the defence. With the Passians' lead looking like it may last until the break, Craitland showed their potential for dominance with a rapid three minutes at the end of the half. After Jan-Morteņ Juliaĵsen was brought down unceremoniously by Fabian Manning, Adám Perryman's resulting free-kick found its way into the back of the net via Eduardo Rodriguez's weak palm from 22 yards, before Jan Mortensen made a break into space in the final minute to then find the unmarked Gaärsen in the centre, who stroked the ball home on the half-volley in the box to score his 98th Craitland goal.
Despite being behind starting the second 45, Passio-Corum maintained performing well, with Mattia Balbi causing Morgaņ Ĵaärgo a number of problems, enough for the young centre-back to be replaced before the hour for usual starter Johaņ Iņvaärsen. The added stability reduced the Passians' threats to Ula's goal, while Craitland also added Jan Mikelt to the mix for increased midfield strength, and almost grabbed a third through the head of Juliaĵsen, but Rodriguez was equal to the looping effort. With ten left, Passio-Corum brought the game level through a rapid counter-attack, with Del Rio and Maicol Panico combining down the left to put substitute striker Gerg Ko Bo through one-on-one. Ula smothered the initial attempt, but Majeed Waris was on hand to react quickest and stab the equaliser in. However, the Craitish players, galled to continue their winning streak, forged further attacks as the minutes ticked, and eventually regained the lead through Ĵulian Ólsen. The attacking centre, expected to have an impressive summer in Senya, finished with a shot worthy of winning any game; receiving the ball to the left of the Passian box, a Cruyff turn inside made room to allow for a curling shot to glide its way into the top-right corner of the net as both offence and defence could only look on as the net bulged for the decider. With the whistle blown, the five-goal thriller was a respectable show for both teams; Craitland displaying their ability to win under pressure and Passio-Corum creating quality chances against a higher-ranked side. The Craitish manager Zyx Dermäna's focus now shifts to his final 23, with the deadline for submission ahead of next Sunday's friendly versus Fort Kolgrad, as the last three matches have given him much to consider.

Re: Craitland provisional squad and friendlies 2017
The day after Craitland's narrow victory over Passio-Corum, Zyx Dermäna has announced his final squad to go to Senya slightly ahead of the expected schedule. With seven players due to lose their places, the narrowing down of the roster has seen a couple of players miss-out despite being previous tournament regulars.
As no more than the maximum number of 'keepers were included, all three will be on the plane. Only Ula participated in the friendlies so far, with Johansen rested and Francis Hjansen involved in the under-21s' successful Colney Cup appearance.
Centre-back Kraig Mortensen is the only defender to stay home, as Morgaņ Ĵaärgo has been chosen to presumably deputise for Iņvaärsen, with two of each position taken for the team's famous back three.
Midfield sees a few contentious decisions; most notably the one to leave Olivier Dermäna behind as the manager's son fails to make the cut for the first time since 2012. Mikelt looks to be utilised more in a central role, with Markko Christiansen impressing enough in the warm-ups to be seemingly awarded a starting place, as the winger's selection means Tór Vorgeņ is absent. Äthen Aärel again pulls up at the last, with Keremov and Loresen brought back into a finals squad after a gap. International newcomer Ilt Valmer is not included either.
Tór Fredriksen's injury looks relatively severe and so has seen him kept back to recover, as Isrdlvarien is the only other recognised forward to be overlooked, albeit not unexpectedly. Aidan Keĵinz is the only squad débutant up front, as Juliaĵsen's three goals earn him a recall.
In addition, the five foreign-based players to be called-up make this the most domestically diverse Craitish tournament side ever.

Re: Craitland provisional squad and friendlies 2017
*played 2 July*
Craitland's camp in Moroni in Senya was well underway, and the 4-times World champions played a friendly at the Politzëa Stadium, the home of local club Politzëa FK Moroni. Although it won't be used at the tournament, the 21,000 capacity stadium was packed as the Craites took on Fort Kolgrad, who narrowly missed out on the World Cup having lost on penalties to Jingdao in the AEFA play-offs.
Fort Kolgrad, playing in their light blue away kit, found it difficult to cope early on with the Craites, with Will Zóma and Freddie Gaärsen being afforded plenty of room in the initial stage of the match. Zóma hit the post within the first few minutes before Gaärsen flashed a header onto the crossbar, as the Fort Kolgrad defence was tested. However, up against a defence which has essentially been copied over from Senyan Third League side AFC Colgrad, it was fairly inevitable that they would find a way through, and on the twenty-third minute mark they did, with Zóma holding up the ball and playing in Gaärsen, who rounded the goalkeeper before tapping the ball into the empty net. With the goal, Craitland were in the ascendancy, and doubled their lead within ten minutes, with Hänä Zensen climbing highest in the box to head home at the near post following a corner kick routine. It could have been three before the break, but Gaärsen's effort from close range forced a save from Marcel Amsel.
At half time Gaärsen was taken off, most likely to save him from scoring his 100th international goal in a meaningless friendly against weaker opposition, and replaced by Aidan Keĵinz, though the neutrals in the crowd weren't too happy, perhaps recalling the JR striker's goals down the years against Politzëa. However, it was the other striker, Zóma, who had the biggest role in the lead up to the third goal, beating several players with a mazy run before smashing a shot low which the keeper could only divert in the path of Markko Christiansen, who tapped home for his first goal for his country. Shortly afterwards Zóma was tripped up in the box by Benjamin Schaefer, with Zóma stepping up and converting a deserved goal, straight down the middle in the roof of the net, for his nation's fourth goal of the afternoon. Craitland were relentless, and substitute Adám Perryman made it five with a long range effort that took a deflection on its way past Amsel late on to complete a rout.
Craitland 5-0 Fort Kolgrad
23' Freddie Gaärsen
33' Hänä Zensen
57' Markko Christiansen
63' Will Zóma (pen.)
78' Adám Perryman
