*Played 8th August*
Tellia 2-0 Shireroth
18' - S. Özker
35' - M. Zajc
Two first-half goals gave Tellia the three points in what turned-out to be a relatively comfortable win. With everyone still all-level after the first round of matches, there was impetus on getting a victory in the second game for both previous finalists. Following their one-all draw in the Benacia Cup last month, Tellia were the team to come out of the blocks the quickest, creating opportunities and making the most of them. The Tellians' usual suspects were catalytic in midfield and the final third, and could have been three-up within the first ten but for Alejian du Nigrad's saves from Marko Zajc and Gianluca Salmoiraghi twice. Salmoiraghi was an important factor in the Tellians' opener, with his trickery being too much for Matthew Castaraghi to deal with as he left the defender for dead, before squaring the ball perfectly for Sezer Özker, who was arriving quickly and finished first time inside the near post with du Nigrad expecting to see the ball cross the face of his goal. The chances kept-on coming for last year's champions, and there were openings for Özker to unsuccessfully double his tally. Following the Shirerithians' first on-target effort of the game; a disappointing header from Kurt Lamberti, it was time for Tellia to go further ahead. Salmoiraghi was again key, as his angled pass forward got the better of Nuno Santos Gomez and dropped to Özker, who backheeled with his second touch into the space where Marko Zajc was ready to place a curved shot low into the bottom-right with his instep from just next to the penalty spot. The break signalled a kick-on for Shireroth, who improved their shooting statistics immediately after the restart, thanks to Jóhann Viðarsson and Lamberti's optimistic efforts from range. While the Shirerithians clawed their way back into the tie, they were never dominant enough to truly threaten Tellia's two-goal advantage, with the defence being on form compared to the last match. With the win, Tellia have put-in a strong bid for a quarter-final place, but Shireroth will be relying on one of a few narrow score possibilities from the final group round to face the prospect of knock-out football.
Hurmu 1-1 Interland
53' - K. Viðarsson
74' - M. Wyzywan
The third draw of Group B came between the current EMUFA and AEFA champions, keeping the table wide-open with two matches to go. Neither side was open to conceding any early goals, and the defensive-minded set-ups created what was quite a boring half of football. Hurmu forged two clear-cut opportunities, however, through Aki Mäenpää, but his shots drifted wide of the mark, as Interland's Jerzy Golański was the Interlandians' main threat with a header from a corner that was saved well by Miklu Loresen just before half time. The game livened-up after the midway stage, with Hurmu the first team to really push their opponents' defensive capabilities, utilising Tommy Gamst-Pedersen's prowess in the process. The winger's deliveries caused numerous problems to Interland, who were fortunate that the Hurmudans' finishing wasn't to its usual standards, otherwise they could have been out of their depth at an early stage. A chance for the Copa Apollonia holders among their efforts fell to Kristján Viðarsson, who managed to finish with aplomb after receiving the ball on his chest from Jari Savolainen's cross in. Interland weren't done for yet though and struck back with just over 15 minutes remaining. A sustained passing move saw the ball transferred up the pitch to Filip Maskat, who, after a one-two with Mariusz Gazetowicz, swung a delivery in from the left. The curling ball was met by Jerzy Golański's forehead, but the forward poorly guided it and headed it against Marian Wyzywan. Fortunately for Interland, Wyzywan's spatial awareness didn't dessert him and he hit the ball hard into the net straight away. The last stages of the game maintained the teams' offensive moves but, other than a Jan Kepp save from Viðarsson's slow scuffed shot, there was nothing else or merit that risked changing the outcome on the scoreboards. Now with two points apiece, both sides still have very plausible chances of advancing from the group, but the two final matches could go either way quite easily.

Nova English Korea 1-2 North Antarctica
26' - A. Young
49' - J. Maxime
87' - Seol T.K.
North Antarctica came back from their defeat to Hamland with a narrow victory that puts the Nova English Koreans on the brink of elimination. In what was a notably back-and-forth game, neither team really took it by the rough of its neck for periods of longer than ten minutes, and uncharacteristically poor shooting kept the score down. Andrew Young's piercing run was the deciding factor in opening the scoring; the winger taking it past three NEK players before playing it to Ishmael Kazenaghi and continuing his run, where he received it back and finished sweetly through Tae Nam-Koong's legs at the near post. As the remainder of the first 45 stayed goalless, with both Seol Tae-Ki and Ahn Tai-Lo guilty of abysmal shooting, the Napians' second hit the net just after the restart from an unlikely source. Jonathan Smalling formed a sprint down the right flank, overtaking Lee Hong-Jo for pace, but was only kept-up by right-back Jordan Maxime, who he played the ball back to. Maxime was seemingly not in the mood to attempt a cross and continued his momentum before hitting a strong drive low at goal from just outside the box which found its way past the central defender and 'keeper to slot in for his first international goal. This half, it was North Antarctica whose shooting, bar Maxime's finish, was off-key, and Kazenaghi headed yards over the bar when we should have really challenged the 'keeper from a Young corner soon afterwards. As NEK improved, they still found difficulty in putting the ball over the line up until the final five, with a goal which also had a golden opportunity in its build-up. Seol Tae-Ki scored his first World Cup goal since 2007, finishing an easy chance after Ahn had had his shot in space agonisingly hit the post. Park Ji-Pyo's early delivery to Ahn's feet left the unmarked striker with a seemingly simple shot, but his instep put the ball against the foot of the woodwork for a lucky rebound that found Seol on the six-yard line to place into the opposite bottom corner, where Quentin Markhams was never going to reach. That goal ended-up just a consolation for Nova English Korea, who, although still mathematically in it, are facing a highly likely trip back home, while the Napians know a win over Ashkenatza will guarantee progression no matter what.
Ashkenatza 0-2 Hamland
30' - A. Miller
36' - A. Miller (pen.)
Hamland must have taken a leaf of out last year's Tellians' book as they registered a second two-nil win to snatch a definite quarter-final place. The match was decidedly efficient from a Hammish perspective, as both the team's attack and defence were in fine form, especially the latter. Ashkenatza rarely troubled Hamland, and it was down to Andrew Miller to score the opener on the stroke of thirty minutes after a number of attacks which kept Ben Szhmuel in business. The breakthrough came via a basic move, with Benjamin Craig's sacrificial off-the-ball run opening a gap in the middle of defence, which Miller exploited to gain the ball from Jules Scott, turn, take a touch forward and shoot hard and fast into the right of the goal as Szhmuel could only watch in awe. It took a matter of minutes for the second goal to go in to strengthen the Hammish lead. In the offence after the kick-off, from which the Ashkenatzis immediately gave possession away, Ray Johnstone moved inside from the right before trying to pick-out Craig on the opposite side of the area. The ball was intercepted by Paul Epstein, but an unfortunate bounce skipped the ball upwards and off the defender's hand, which gave the strict referee the opportunity to whistle for a spot kick. Epstein was booked, amid the protests, and Miller was given the ball to double his and Hamland's lead. The penalty was pretty standard, with the ball hitting the same region of the net as the youngster's first, beating Szhmuel who failed to dive yet again. Hamland weren't shy in pressing for a third before half time, but nothing came of it. The always-attack-minded Ashkenatza brought-on a third forward after the break; sacrificing Chaim Liebel for Ben Neumann. Neumann's addition did add another dimension to their attacks, with some middle ground between Frenkel Bruno's strength and Gavrel Levandovskiy's speed, but inevitably it wasn't enough to outdo the Hammish back line. James Berry's expert tracking down the wing was matched by Jonathan O'Hara's superb positioning and tackle timing to see a second clean sheet in as many matches for Rodney MacLeod. The win puts Hamland into the quarter-finals, but whether they finish top or second will decide who they'll face, with Ashkenatza needing a mini-miracle if they want to see the knock-outs this year.

Zandarijn 2-0 Novatainia
71' - J. Dannehl
90' - M. Quelvennec
Zandarijn put two past a hardy Novatainian defence to keep their co-host advancing dream alive thanks to inspired substitutions in a game that was much tougher than the score suggests. The two teams faced-off off the back of contrasting 1-0 results, with Novatainia aiming for a win to all-but seal their first ever quarter-finals spot and the Zandts knowing a loss would spell an uphill battle to advance. The game was a complete stalemate in the middle of the park from the off, with the more attack-minded Gabriël Joors and Daniël van Scheil being matched inch-for-inch by the human wall of Zig Cee and Chris Alberto. A dire number of efforts were recorded in the first half and it seemed that this game was heading for the doldrums up until the restart. Zandarijn, assured that only a win would do, threw a complete change in central midfield at the Novatainians after the break, as Jón Dannehl and Mickaël Quelvennec joined the fray. The two, oft-forgotten, Zandt stars calmly spent their time easing into the match and planning what to change, and so their impact wasn't truly felt until there were only twenty minutes remaining. Daniël Lavan-Olsen, who by his own high standards had a very quiet game, advanced the play well when given room and found William Tyas in a deep-lying role. Dannehl saw this as his chance and lapped Tyas to the forward's left, where he was picked-out with a sliced pass. Dannehl evidently only had eyes for goal as he darted goalwards, beating Mart Hil'jandé, and hit a surprise across his own body into the bottom-left with everyone else in the stadium anticipating him to shoot across the goalkeeper. The strike didn't really change much, unusually, with the stubborn Novatainians sure of grinding-out a result. This plan was flawed, however, as full time approached fast, and time ran-out on an equaliser once the Zandts' second was scored. Dannehl again made his way to the front but after being crowded by Hil'jandé and Joseph Birdseye, found a pass into Quelvennec, who gave his new Napian club fans something to cheer after moving closer unhassled to use his weaker foot to put the ball over the line near the left post. With two back-up midfielders saving Zandarijn, there may be unrest in the striking faction, but with the possibility of advancing still wide open, the co-hosts should be as optimistic as the Novatainians going into their last fixture.
Craitland 4-0 Nova England
22' - P. Demhivo
45' - F. Gaärsen
63' - L. Loresen
88' - L. Zaya
Craitland's emphatic victory over the Nova English defies their recent struggles, but may only be a one-off as they're still not guaranteed through yet. Nova England never really got going in this match, rising through the lower gears occasionally but never reaching their top speed and full power. Craitland were their usual rapid selves, but were too quick for their own good on a number of occasions; being caught offside and playing passes just ahead of their teammates the two most common misdemeanours. However, with just over twenty played, the first was nodded in by Paulio Demhivo. The stand-in captain, with Manta on the bench, was in the right place at the right time for Lydveldt Loresen's corner, where he used his height to be the first to make contact with the delivery and divert it down past the man on the line's, Clive Austonov, feet. Demhivo was rarely put to use down the opposite end but was needed to clear the ball after Daniel Hjansen had cut-off Theo Sinclair. The prolific Freddie Gaärsen scored an important second with effectively the last kick of the half after a terrific pass by Hänä Zensen bypassed four Nova Englanders to leave the striker with Nicholas Harfield to beat from a great position. While the break signalled an easing-off by Craitland, Nova England were in no frame of mind to look to take advantage and a third Craitish goal was their punishment after just more than an hour. Jon-Jan Jónsen and Lydveldt Loresen were undecided at the edge of the box and played the ball between them on a handfull of occasions to create some space, which eventually fell into Loresen's pocket, giving the winger that important split-second to judge the gap, move forward and crash a shot from distance. The ball remained straight and true through the shot, and perhaps Harfield could have done better, before slamming against the underside of the bar and into the net. Craitland weren't done there just yet, and added to their attacking credentials with Lucas Zaya taking the place of Tim Isrdlvarien. While Zaya was unsure of the occasional link-up attempt, he made the most of his time with a couple of minutes to spare. Jon-Jan Jónsen, in a quiet but effective role, sidestepped Max Herbert with too much ease late-on before noticing Zaya arrive the otherside of the closing John Mattel. Jónsen nutmegged Mattel with his slide through and Zaya managed to get a toe to the ball before any part of Harfield's body and gave it enough flight to evade the grounded stopped and bounce into the open goalmouth. A second win signifies a tremendous Craitish effort as they are now quarter-finalists-to-be, but this is worrying for Nova England who know even a good win over the co-hosts next might not even be enough for them to advance.

Hammish Monovia 0-3 Mercury
37' - J. Foxon
47' - W. Fizeau-Blake
69' - J. Foxon
Mercury put-in a prime performance when it counted to reach their first World Cup knock-out stage, leaving the co-hosts with three losses from three. Hammish Monovia began the game with a minuscule chance of advancing from the group, relying on a win, Alexandrian loss and a huge goal swing, but from the off, the Mercurians ensured that was never going to happen. While the Hammish Monovians opened the scoring very early on against Alexandria, it took them over half an hour to register their first shot on target this time round, after Mercury had created three chances which could have ended with goals. Captain Joe Foxon was, as usual, the spearhead of the Mercurians' offence, but was met by Don Štefančić in improved form, saving two powerful efforts from the young forward as well as a header from Matt Fitzgerald. Almost immediately after Armand Diarra's first chance of the game; a tame effort into the arms of Kieran Mercury, Foxon eventually turned the ball home. With less than ten left before half time, Wilmont Fizeau-Blake surged forward, taking the ball past Louis Ducourtioux and Jan Kulak to the bye-line, from where he slotted it back teasingly across goal, finding Foxon's brilliantly-timed run for the skipper to bundle-in inside the unguarded back post. Fizeau-Blake continued his destruction of the co-hosts' defence from the second-half kick-off, as an attack straight away ended with a second. Hammish Monovia were unable to even touch the ball between the restart and the finish, as Fitzgerald's composed ball through found Fizeau-Blake, and the winger shimmied inside and was unchallenged by Karlo Tkalčić as he reached the area, before a dainty finish placed the ball over the 'keeper's jolted leg and in with the slightest touch off the right-hand post. Mercury built on this fantastic start to the second 45, and Fizeau-Blake cemented himself as the side's primary creative force out on the right. Crosses in found Fitzgerald again and midfielder Stephen Rydberg, but both could only scuff their shots over the target as they searched for a third. Another did finally appear after seventy minutes, however, thanks to Joe Foxon's third of the tournament. James Phillips' charge down the left flank gave Fizeau-Blake a rest, and his whipped delivery was at the right height for the captain, who got ahead of Karlo Tkalčić to nod it past Štefančić from six yards out. Hammish Monovia knew when they were beaten, and for the final twenty minutes, their infrequent attacks became non-existent as Mercury comfortably spread the ball throughout the team with no worries. A fourth almost came just before the end, but Foxon was denied a hat-trick by a last-ditch tackle by the much-maligned Kulak. The victory, coupled with the other final result, put Mercury into the quarter-finals, but the Hammish Monovians bow-out having tried their best but have showed to be a considerable level below the major teams at the moment.
Mahoz HaSephardim 0-2 Alexandria
34' - T. Modrem
56' - F. Lassana-Traoré
A comfortable win for the Alexandrians saw them advance from the group, but the Mahozis miss-out on reaching the quarter-finals thanks to the other game's result. MHS began the match top of the group but knew nothing was secure with last year's runners-up yet to play them, while Alexandria were safe in the knowledge a win of any kind would see them through. As expected, the Alexandrians' dominance was evident from the outset, but Les Bleus didn't have the entirety of the game their own way. Some good passing moves found their way through the Alexandrian defence, and Sfeir Kheldumeh was unlucky to curl his shot wide from the edge of the box as Quryaqos could have done better with an unorthodox headed effort. The tournament favourites put the ball away with ten minutes left before half time, however, through star man Tamer Modrem. Florent Lassana-Traoré's angled run into the Mahozi box was thwarted by Yohannan Et Izo Malkeh, but Modrem was at hand to take the ball from the forward and shoot low and hard into the slight gap between the post and Nahraya Izmou's left leg from an overlapping shot. FLT scored a goal of his own - his second this championship - prior to the hour mark, being the decisive touch on a scrappy move. Damián Sala penetrated the left side of defence and found Modrem with a slid pass inside, but the midfielder's effort was blocked by Et Izo Malkeh. Lassana-Traoré hit the rebound first time, but somehow crashed it into the bar from seven yards. Fortunately for the striker, the ball ricocheted back down to ground and he was able to toe-poke home from the closest of range after outreaching Ninos Ahudummeh. Mahoz HaSephardim were still not out of contention though, and young Sfeir Kheldumeh's inexperience got the better of him in a quality position as he stubbed the ball towards Jean-Alain Foucault soon after the second goal. The final clear-cut Mahozi chance was substitute Ismail Aiyaz's, not long after Alexandria's Álexis Carrasco - a fellow replacement - curled a shot from distance into the side netting, who could only found a disappointing corner after Foucault saved his glanced header under pressure. Mahoz HaSephardim can count themselves unfortunate after going home despite two very solid victories in their opening games, while Alexandria's minor slip-up against Mercury can be put behind them now the group is won.

I'm starting to worry It's like what Poles had to face during the latest Euro: first the group of anything-can-happen. Then, a group we might pass. I hope it won't end up being a group of high hopes.

Interland 3-2 Tellia
27' - O. Łapacz
35' - S. Özker
50' - S. Özker
64' - D. Drzewny
76' - Z. Kolarek
Tellia once again performed poorly to allow a lead slip against Interland, but the holders still managed to make the knock-out rounds by the skin of their teeth. In the tightest group of the tournament, both teams needed to ensure they didn't drop points to stand a chance of advancing, but a win was Interland's main aim. The Tellians started the match seemingly happy to sit-back and soak-up the Interlandian offence, but the attacking formation which saw the latter win their first EMU Championship last month had other ideas and weren't shy in having a crack at goal. Despite having such proven strikers as Marian Wyzywan and Jerzy Golański on the field, it was holding midfielder Oskar Łapacz who put the ball across the line first with a quality finish. The 2011 tournament's official best player was pivotal in a passing move which spread wing-to-wing as Interland tried to break through, before taking it upon himself to strike the ball after no crosses were played in. With a slight touch to his right, with Marco Schiavvi standing off him, the Napian-based man connected beautifully to swing the ball up and into the postage stamp corner from over twenty yards out beyond the fingertips of Di Maggio in goal. Conceding appeared to spark life into the Tellians, who considered the prospect of going home early unthinkable, and an equaliser was found within ten minutes of going behind. Isaac Mahler's clever control allowed him space through the middle and, a short surge later, the ball was played through to Sezer Özker, who pulled the trigger. Although Jan Kepp was able to get a considerable amount of his body on the ball as he dived, it skidded under him and, despite Henryk Diabeł's best efforts with a last-ditch slide, over the goal line to count. With half time shortly afterwards, the Tellians were unaffected by the break and continued their forward play from the restart to good effect. With only five minutes down, Özker scored his second - and third overall - of the match, again thanks to a good lay-off. Gianluca Salmoiraghi, whose preferred central position belongs to Özker and so plays out wide, was able to put dust between himself and Łukasz Ziebro before daintily chipping into the box, where Özker was waiting to head forward and inside the front post, with Kepp statically anticipating a glanced effort across his body. The initiative now fell to Interland once again to make sure they weren't leaving the competition, and they obliged in levelling the score for a second time midway through the half. As with their opener, the finish came from one of their midfield trio, as Dariusz Drzewny was able to break past the usually formidable Pasquale di Montezemolo from deep before slotting past an upright Di Maggio, with the ball trickling over the line after hitting the base of the left-hand post on its journey in. In the pause after the goal, however, Drzewny was replaced due to a minor knock he has received earlier in the game, and on came Zbigniew Kolarek in his place. An ever-present in Interland's tournament squads, the 29 year-old has never really made a lasting name for himself at international level, but that has now all changed. Following an unsuccessful Tellian romp forward to attempt to retake the lead, Interland broke and Filip Maskat was the unusual spearhead making the run up-field. With Wyzywan waiting for a cross, Maskat chose to selfishly go it alone, but had his shot in desperation closed-down by Schiavvi, which deflected the ball to Kolarek, who had time to line-up hit shot. By no means a clean effort or a great finish, Kolarek's daisy cutter was effective in being placed well enough that Di Maggio couldn't reach it as he scrambled across his line and it trundled inside his left post. The final quarter of an hour saw the Tellians shell-shocked and unable to provide a cutting final ball through Interland's defence to challenge their opponents' lead, leaving them visibly nervy in the final few minutes. The result of the other game meant that Tellia were fortunate to advance, as Interland won the group and will face Mercury, but will now have to repeat last year's final against an improving Alexandria in their next game.
Shireroth 1-0 Hurmu
89' - A. Mather (pen.)
Shireroth grabbed a win at the death with a dubious penalty, but the result was not enough for them to advance as they finished below Tellia on goal difference. In a match which had a considerable amount more fouls conceded than shots created by both teams, the two sides were very clearly taking the game as a do-or-die with the possibility of a quarter-final place at stake. Of the small selection of shots on display, Hurmu were the most threatening. Both Kristján Viðarsson and Aki Mäenpää hit the target with powerful efforts either side of the break, but only something spectacular would have beaten Alejian du Nigrad on a day like this, with the young stopper on-song. Shireroth's only shot on target all match was launched from the left boot of Jalal Akwá, but the striker was unable to keep his effort down from inside the box and the ball was met by Miklu Loresen's leaping parry. As the game seemed to be drably grinding to its end, the focal point occurred. Akwá gained possession of the ball in the "D" from Talsin Llwrran and immediately turned to break away from Jyrki Paatelainen, but he was nudged by the lofty centre-back as he did so. On the very extremity of the box, the foul would have been harshly awarded anywhere else on the pitch, but the referee pointed to the spot amid protests from the Hurmudans who were adamant the touch was outside the box. The man in black was unchanged by their calls, and out-of-favour Adolf Mather lined-up a classy penalty shot into the right-hand side of the netting with Loresen incapable of getting a touch on it. With a minimal amount of stoppage time added, there was almost no further action and Shireroth took the narrow victory to consign Hurmu to the foot of the group but failed to advance themselves as 1-0 wasn't enough an increase on their goal difference to better their neighbours Tellia.

Hamland 3-0 Nova English Korea
53' - A. Miller
77' - A. Miller
90' - A. Miller
Andrew Miller's terrific second-half hat-trick sealed the deal for Hamland, who top the group without dropping as much as a clean sheet, resigning NEK to the bottom of the table standings. The three-goal deficit was perhaps a tad unfair on the Nova English Koreans, who performed bravely against a very strong Hammish team, but were lacking the killer touch which would have made the game a closer affair. Some surprisingly good defending by NEK meant the game did remain goalless up until past the break, as young Lee Nook-San kept Benjamin Craig in his back pocket for most of the match. Nook-San's domestic team-mate Andrew Miller was the Hamlanders' primary attacker, however, and his efforts from outside the box troubled Tae Nam-Koong, who was able to block them effectively. Seol Tae-Ki almost added to his goal in the last match just before half time, but his speculative volleyed shot could only land on the roof of the net after not dipping quickly enough. The second half signalled a minor shift in style for Hamland, who must have had their ears rung by coach Harvey Miller during the break, with Jules Scott advancing his position to play almost alongside Miller and Craig. With Nook-San's persistent man-marking of Craig paying-off, it was down to Scott to work an opening for Miller, which he was able to do soon after the match restarted. Patiently holding-up the ball with Lee Jung-Hwan harrying him, Scott created space for Miller to move freely into behind the defence, collecting the ball from a cheeky flick inside to move one-on-one with Tae before easily finishing through the stopper's outstretched legs. The ease of which the Nova English Korean defence broke-up during that move led to the underdogs holding back slightly afterwards, giving Hamland a lot of possession and successful passing in the middle third. As the match played-out, NEK's chances to break came few and far between, with their wider players seemingly focusing on defending than going forward. Despite this apparent "parking of the bus", Hamland were able to pick away and eventually found a way through with just under 15 to go. Ray Johnstone capitalised on the dependable Lee Hong-Jo's stumble to race through into the box from the right, leaving the NEK defensive line unmoving as Miller also skipped through unmarked. As Tae approached Johnstone, the winger played a squared ball for Miller, who, onside, was able to calmly walk to the ball into the net to ensure no embarrassment. That wasn't the end of the game though, and Hamland's tenacity showed through as they continued to push for more. With Nova English Korea down on their knees, it was a matter of time for the third to go in, which it did in the first minute of stoppage time; giving Andrew Miller a hat-trick and his fifth of the tournament. As Oliver Adamson replaced Benjamin Craig for the final five, Nook-San was unable to keep-up with his injection of liveliness, and the young forward assisted Miller's third with a beautiful lobbed delivery. Undertaking Johnstone on the right, Oliverson latched-on to the winger's pass past Hong-Jo to control and chip the ball into the mixer. Miller used his height to gain advantage over Nook-San on the edge of the six-yard box, with Tae unsure of whether to stay put or punch, and he got enough of a touch on the ball to put it into the goal with a tense bounce in off the floor. The win left Nova English Korea with a poor record, but not the worst we've seen from a débuting side, while Hamland flew to the top of the group with a 100% record and no goals conceded, giving them a fantastic chance in the quarter-finals.
North Antarctica 1-0 Ashkenatza
9' - J. Gonzales
North Antarctica put themselves through to the knock-out stages in their first ever World Cup with a narrow victory over Ashkenatza, which was more than they eventually required. At the start of the game, even though a draw was likely enough to see them through, a win would have guaranteed the feat for the Napians with some room to manœuvre; a position the team was willing to be in. The match started perfectly for North Antarctica, who created a goalscoring opportunity within the first two minutes, as Ishmael Kazenaghi forced Ben Szhmuel into a save low to his right. The game's next Napian attack saw the scoring opened, with Jonathan Gonzales finding the back of the net after William Maynard did the hard work. After receiving the ball outside the box, Maynard's only route forward was to the left, where he was allowed by by Shivek Zylerberg to reach the bye-line, from where he cut back inside. His final touch, although classed as a pass, looked to be a shot from a tight angle, but Szhmuel got a slight knick on it which directed it along the face of the goal for Gonzales to appear to poke it over the line from a matter of feet away before any of the Ashkenatzi defence could react. However, after the goal went-in, the game lost the edge it had before, and genuine attacks were infrequent as the two sides' midfields battled it out. Before half time, Dovid Mahler, Barak Weitzman and scorer Gonzales were all written into the referee's book for late challenges, with Chaim Liebel and Ezeo Maartens joining them before the hour mark. Ashkenatza had the best opportunities either side of the break, with Gavrel Levandovskiy using his pace to beat Johny Dreco to through-balls, but failing to finish with any strength and being thwarted. The Napians recorded the last on-target shot of the tie through young substitute Rafael Konstantinov, but the highly-rated prospect failed to find a way past Szhmuel with his header from Andrew Young's brilliant free-kick from wide; the foul for which Zylerberg was also booked. The Ashkenatzis can have no real complaints from their second finals appearance, but may be a bit downhearted that they weren't able to finish well in their last two games. North Antarctica, on the other hand, can hold their heads high already, regardless of what happens now, after coming through a group of uncertainty with two victories following their dismal showing in Senya last month.

Nova England 1-1 Zandarijn
33' - W. Tyas
51' - T. Sinclair
Zandarijn survived a penalty scare and Nova English fight-back to hold-on to a draw, which was enough to guarantee one co-hosts' place in the quarter-finals. With the Nova English aiming to not bow-out of the tournament goalless, albeit with progression only a slight possibility, Zandarijn faced a battle if they were to get a result against the 2009 runners-up. Home support was a clear factor from the beginning of the game, with Nova England starting sheepishly among the noisy atmosphere, fending-off rapid Zandt attacks. Zandarijn's pace in their offence worked against them on a number of occasions, with William Tyas and Stephan van Hajn upfront being unable to keep-up with Daniël Lavan-Olsen and Arjen Paats' sprints forward, leaving the wingers with few options in the area to utilise effectively. Following some unsuccessful over-hit crosses, Zandarijn began to focus attacking via the centre, with Daniël van Scheil the linchpin, keeping Jeff Johnson on his toes. Just after half an hour's play, the co-hosts went ahead, thanks to their tactical modification. Van Scheil and Gabriël Joors worked the ball towards the Nova English box, with Paats' run creating space, and Van Scheil's through ball found Van Hajn, who unselfishly opted to allow William Tyas a shot from his short lay-off, from which Tyas hit the back of the net with a low effort into the bottom-left from near the spot. Zandarijn's creativity remained dominant for most of the remainder of the half, but Callum Sorrel's weak header hinted at a Nova English response after the break. That response didn't take long to manufacture, as the Nova English managed to pull one back with a mere five minutes gone after the restart. The team's aging forward pair of Ka'an Peterson and Sorrel were too slow to react to a Richard Jones attempted early ball through, but the delivery sneaked its way through the gap for the overlapping Theo Sinclair to collect and run with. The winger's turn of speed made him space and the finish was an exquisite chip beyond Arjen Kleusen as the 'keeper tried to narrow the angle as Sinclair arrived from the right wing. Although the equaliser alluded to Nova England creating further goals, the team struggled to match the impact of their goal and were guilty of missing the target on a few occasions. Sorrel, the more lively of the strike partnership, was found open within ten minutes of their goal, while Peter Nelson managed to skip past a Peter Vandem challenge to enter the area, but both players dragged their respective shots wide as they rushed them. The game's final true talking point came with just over ten minutes to play, with Ka'an Peterson winning a penalty kick by rocketing a shot into the arm of Jan de Wijnen. Strangely, the defender escaped a booking for the handball, but Nova England were punished as Peterson could only watch his tame penalty shot clawed away by Kleusen down to the stopper's left, but comfortably within his diving reach. Were the kick successful, Zandarijn would have been looking at certain elimination as they were unable to forge any meaningful forward bursts afterwards, but the Nova English would have been in the running to advance from the group more than before. As it was, the save and subsequent tied scoreline led to Nova England's only point of the tournament as Zandarijn benefited from the other match's result to finish second with four points and ensure another consecutive host would definitely be competing in the quarter-finals this year.
Novatainia 1-2 Craitland
19' - F. Gaärsen
57' - F. Gaärsen
72' - V. Tagnus
Freddie Gaärsen's brace was enough for Craitland to secure their third win of the tournament, giving the team their first ever nine-point finish in the group stages. With Novatainia needing a victory to be in with a shot of advancing to the knock-out stages for the first time, Craitland were also not guaranteed a quarter-final place and continued with the same starting eleven as the last two matches. As previous results indicated, the Craits began the game on top; dominating possession and creating the majority of chances, but Novatainia went closest to scoring first. Experienced forward Iago Othello was found by Lars Mkvenner, who pulled Alexis Proteņ out of position before playing the ball through, but the Novatainian captain was only able to blast his effort into the side netting as Jack Vorgensen stood strong. Craitland took the lead a few minutes later, thanks to Freddie Gaärsen's decisive touch from Tiem P. Jones' corner. Gaärsen had the opportunity to score in the build-up, but his scuffed shot was deflected behind by Marcel Yola for the corner, which Jones swung-in accurately to find Gaärsen just past the front post to head over the line between Mart Hil'jandé and Yola's attempts to keep it out. Although the Craits maintained their advantage over the rest of the half, they couldn't increase their lead despite Tim Isrdlvarien's header and curling shot, both of which Yola was comfortable to watch float over the crossbar. Once the match restarted, Novatainia were again the first team to threaten the other's goal, with Vir Tagnus holding-on to the ball on the edge of the area before forcing a shot that Vorgensen caught on the dive outstretched. With twelve minutes played after the break, Craitland doubled their lead, with national team record top scorer Gaärsen adding another to his tally. This time, there was no need for an assist, with Gaärsen making the goal of his own accord with a run from the middle of the Novatainian half, through their uncommitted centre-back pairing, and to the goal, where a drop of the shoulder opened space in the right side of the net for a slotted finish. With a two-goal lead, the Craits seemed happy their job was done and Novatainia began to claim the ball for longer stints to create chances. Tagnus again was found with time to shoot by Chris Alberto's expert pass, but there was little placement and Vorgensen got his body behind it with twenty minutes to play. However, the next move was vitally finished by Novatainia, thanks to Tagnus eventually beating Vorgensen; the first player to do do this tournament. Alberto and Zig Cee's combination in the centre fooled Olivier Dermäna, and Cee capitalised on the space behind the holding midfielder before making his way inside Daniel Hjansen. Now at the left edge of the area, Cee looked-up to pick-out a first-time low cross into the middle, where Vir Tagnus' kick of the heels put him ahead of Paulio Demhivo and free to knock the ball past Vorgensen with an ankle touch just out of the stopper's reach. The final 15 were nervous times for both teams, as Novatainia pushed for more, unknowing of the other match's scoreline, with the Craits looking to hold-on to any points. Novatainia's offence continued to trouble, with Demhivo unable to handle Tagnus and rapid substitute Ricardo Carlton, but Vorgensen's trademark positioning saved his side on a couple of occasions, with a bit of fortune from the top side of the woodwork also helping-out. In the end, the Novatainians' brave showing wasn't enough to give them the result they wanted, as they went home by a sole point, but Craitland's three wins from three gives them the joint-best record this tournament so far, to supply hope to a team that is admittedly in transition, and a quarter-final match-up against North Antarctica.
