FMF WORLD CUP 2007 - OFFICIAL THREAD
Hurmu v New-Empire Preview
Hurmu may not be known as a footballing nation but the newbies are taking their first ever world cup in style. Unlike their Stormark counterpart, Hurmu has proceeded and with the Jari Savolainen the squad, it will be a very special occasion leading them out for the first time.
New-Empire had a nightmare World Cup last time, with their first match against Cräiteland taking a heavy effect on the rest of the time but with the new upcoming of Glyn Wranws, things are about to change.
Other players should be mentioned are captain Purpleperson and playmaker Mike Jamizzo. However Hurmu do have a good amount of foreign based players. Not just captain Savolainen, but Tommy Gamst-Pedersen, Jamie Hyypiä and Miklu Loresen. This could put an impact on the game but also Aki Mäenpää has been impressing and is on fire looking at his form.
This could be an interesting match.
Expected Team Line-ups
Hurmu (4-4-2): Loresen, Illola, Hyypiä, Pultenen, Kinnunen, Savolainen (capt.), Hjular, Rautiainen, Gamst-Pedersen, Mäenpää, Vidarsson
New-Empire (1-4-3-2): Mercury, Purple (capt.), Smith, Rock, Orenga, Iupita, Gibbs, Jamizzo, Q. Djalma, Wranws, Pluto
Other News - IMPORTANT
Alexandre Von Heil will not be starting Alexandria's game v Beaugium tomorrow as he has pulled out due to not being deemed fit enough to start in a late fitness test.

The New-Empire Strikes Back
Tim O'Brian:
Welcome to the Pre-Game show. Now George, what do you think about the Hurmu v New-Empire match?
George Duncan:
No doubt, it has to be New-Empire. Hurmu just don't have the experience to take on NE. I'm tipping New-Empire by 2 goals.
Tim O'Brian:
Well, I disagree. We all remember the last world cup. New-Empire have proven to be chokers, so I think Hurmu can sneak a win. I tip Hurmu by 1 goal.
George Duncan:
New Empire faced quality opposition last time, I don't think you can consider Hurmu quality...
Tim O'Brian:
But the fact is New-Empire choked, and couldn't get past the group stage after losing that first match...
George Duncan:
I doubt very much that will happen...
Tim O'Brian:
Well, its time for a break. We'll be right back.

Hurmu 2-1 New-Empire
Hurmu have won their first ever World Cup match against a much-facied New-Empire.
Although the CIS nation had the more possession, they also squandered the most chances, with 3 good shots just going past Loresen's far post. Hurmu then took the lead when youngster Aki Mäenpää headed in a Hjular free-kick from the right wing after 10 minutes of play.
New-Empire fought back near the end of the first half, with Jamizzo and Quentin Djalma out-playing Hurmu's midfield, and on forty minutes Glyn Wranws tapped in a good move from Purple and Djalma.
Hurmu came out early in the second half as they had done in the first, playing some good passes about the field. Aki Mäenpää then scored his second of the game on 64 minutes after beating Orenga down the wing before smashing a beautiful shot with the outside of his boot into the opposite top corner from a tight angle.
New-Empire weren't a complete loss in the second half and had chances to draw level, the best being Jamizzo's low free-kick which hit the outside of the post very late on in the match.
Hurmu now top Group B, after the two favourites to go through, Beaugium and Alexandria drew 0-0 earlier in the day.

Daily Kickabout - The Curse of the Gaian Start
Giorgio Rosso and Guillermo Trescrara know that Gaia's starts have been absolutely terrible in every tournament. Rosso has played in every tournament and admits it is a struggle.
Rosso explained: "We are meant to be one of the top 5 micronations on Micras but we always play off the start very badly, but its not a problem. In every tournament we have got to the final, not always winning but this year we're hungry for it. Maybe its because the players need to adjust to the old Gaian style of flair and skill but I don't know. Last year we tried everything to beat Tokidoki but we were just shocked because we thought we'd win 2-0 easily but it took a massive blast in us. We did the same after beating Matbaa last year but they got their revenge. I think we shouldn't underestimate anyone now."
Trescrara, who's a new addition to the Gaian team said, "The World Cup is everything I dream of every night and I want to be part of the team that wins it."
The Port Rackham Rangers has finished top goalscorer of the RPL last season and has won 3 trophies in his first season of Riponian football season, winning the domestic league and 2 continental trophies.
He added, "I know how to score, I was top goalscorer in Riponia's League and it is far more difficult to play in compared to Gaia and I expect any other league, but I adapted quickly. I admit the first challenge I went in was painful and I must think quickly to score. But International football I think will get easier for me. I also saw some adverts about our loss to Matbaa but I'm not bothered bout it. We don't fear anyone but we won't underestimate them either."

Paul:

Marco Tate:
I can imagine, hows Yola?
Iago:
He's really angry, he said he should've played better. I tell ya, I wouldn't wanna be those Gaian Strikers.
Paul:
Speaking of strikers, how are you doing personally?
Iago:

Marco:
Wait, you're saying we should beat Gaia?
Iago:
If we lose, I'll go starkers through this studio

Paul:
Sounds like a bet. Well Ladies and Gentlemen, get ready. Only 4 days to go. The king has asked that everyone line the street and give the Gaians a welcome they won't forget. Kataria v Leon & Venezia
Two very new teams to the world of sport, and two yet have qualified. Leon & Venezia have brung a whole foreign based team with their main threat being midfielder Gonzalo Mascaroni and forward Daniel Taleva.
However Kataria have brung a domestic side mixed with some foreign based player with very talent players such as Junichi Nakamura and Shunseke Inamoto in the midfield with Shinji Ito and Sho Nakayama up front.
The two are from different parts of the planet, with the footballing heritage being difference. This one is quite close to call as it is expected both to play 4-4-2 formations but I think this will go down to tactics by the managers.
I wish both nations luck, this will be a spectacular match for the fans.
Expected Team Line-ups
Kataria (4-4-2): Narazaki, Iriyato, Takegi, Nakata, Narahagi, H. Nakamura (capt.), Inamoto, Yamamudo, J. Nakamura, Ito, Nakayama.
Leon & Venezai (4-4-2): Palizio, Revellière, Moreira, Emmanuel, Javi Santos, Juninho Santos, Gilberto, Mascaroni, Levas, Castillón, Taleva

Riponia v New Brittania Preview
Two teams with a similar style, this game is going to depend on the quality of the play. New Brittania have pace and flair but the most dependent player they rely on now is Seongchen's Daniel Perry.
Riponia play with the similar fast and quick however their league is alot more physical and there is a question of how they will approach this international match. Riponia will see their star players being right back Chris Mackingtosh and up front striker Theodore Sinclair. Some shock as Danny Smedley and Chris Farnham have been left out the Starting 11 and in their place will be youngster Tristán Lennon and Jermaine Routledge.
So that ends the preview, its the reds v the blues, but what will be the outcome? Tune into MicraSport today.
Expected Team Line-ups
Riponia (4-4-2): J. Smith (capt.), Mackingtosh, Lilley, Caragger, Ragnus, Lennon, Prescott, Routledge, Donovan, Sinclair, Kiker
New Brittania (4-3-1-2): Rogers, Smith, Price, Young, Hertz, Perry (capt.), Spencer, Southwell, Malt, Khan, Heald

Kataria 1-1 Leon & Venezia
An uneventful first half, barring the first 15 minutes, and an even less exciting second half in this game of new-comers.
Kataria started brightly and opened the scoring just 50 seconds into the game, when Hidetoshi Nakamura scored a curling free-kick after being brought down by youngster Javier Santos.
Leon & Venezia fought back early, and levelled the score on 16 minutes from a Castillón diving header, after Taleva's pass through was deflected up at the right height for him.
No other real chances came after that, and the score remained 1-1.
