[Voting] Condemnation of Genocide
The General Assembly will now come to order to begin voting on the following Opinion, which shall only become official with 100% vote in favor.
Member nations will vote AYE or NAY for the Opinion as written. Voting will last one week. The General Assembly of the Micras Treaty Organization condemns the practice of genocide, the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation without due cause. Where a nation has embarked upon active measures against a population group within its borders it shall report this to the General Assembly so as to permit a debate as to whether the action is warranted or should be condemned as an unwarranted genocide.

Re: [Voting] Condemnation of Genocide
Although we, the People's Republic of Graecia, still believe that this opinion is too restrictive (especially on nations not been members of MTO), it's still better than the original; So, we must endorse (AYE) it.

Calbion, in rememberance of the thousands of our countrymen who fell during the Genocide of 1600 by the Jing, votes AYE.

Re: [Voting] Condemnation of Genocide
Read it again. "Active measures against a population group" were expressly permitted if reported and deemed warranted - that provision exists specifically because of the Froyalaners.Jonas Windsor wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 5:27 pmBatavia vote NAY, as we still have some Froyalanish roaing our lands... for now...

Indeed. If the Opinion passes, Natopia will be reporting its conduct in the campaign for the Reconstruction of Western Tapfer to the MTO for review. While a large number of Unrepentant Vanics may die, we are confident that we have done everything in our means to ensure they were given ample opportunities to restart their lives down the path towards civility.

Batavia changes its vote to AYE.
(Despite that this condemnation is vague and full of loopholes: what would even happen when a country is condemned? Are we also going to condemn non-member states, etc.?)

Re: [Voting] Condemnation of Genocide
I imagine a condemnation of a particular situation would require being in the form of an Opinion... thus requiring 100%.
If a member state feels strongly about condemning the actions of a non-member state and wants to bring it to the General Assembly for discussion, that is a right protected by the General Treaty and if the General Assembly agrees unanimously to condemn a non-member state, then that is allowed. After all, we all share the same world and the MTO has a right to comment on world events.

Counting all votes cast during the week-long voting window from August 10 to August 17, this has passed and is now an official MTO Opinion.
