Intent to Resign
To the esteemed General Assembly,
I hereby tender my resignation as Secretary-General, proud and thankful for the short yet productive time I have had serving as Secretary-General.
I call upon the members of this body to submit their nominations for a successor.
I am happy to preside over the selection of my successor or to hand it off to someone that this body trusts on the matter.
Thank you,

Re: Intent to Resign
The Imperial State of Constancia thanks the esteemed Secretary-General for his service, and nominates the Natopian representative for the post of Secretary-General of the Micras Treaty Organization.
Re: Intent to Resign
The Bovic Empire of the Natopian Nation joins her ally, the Imperial State of Costancia, in thanking the Secretary-General for his service and working to modernize the MTO for the current geo-political climate.
The Natopian delegation humbly accepts the nomination for Secretary-General.
(OOC: I may select another character run by me to be the Natopian delegate to run for SecGen)

Marco Lungo, the Natopian delegate to the MTO, has accepted the Constancian nomination. He believes in the usefulness of the MTO as a tool for standardization and establishing common practices among those Micras nations who want to work together.
Noting no other nomination have been made in two weeks, the Natopian delegation motions to begin a simple yes-no vote on the question:

With the greatest respect to His Excellency Mr. Lungo, the Garden believes in convertibility but not standardisation. Monoculture is a path to extinction.

Natopia: Yes
Standardization in the sense of more things like the MTO Convention on the Laws of the Seas (which can always be amended if enough people distrust it), and possibly the new Time Zone initiative started by Passio-Corum and the beginnings of a standardization treaty have been put forward by Batavia with Natopia, Shireroth, Senya, and Mercury contributing to the project too. The MTO should be encouraging things like that and providing a neutral ground to store it and promote it to the wider audience here on the Hub.
It's all still voluntary and isolationist members can choose to ignore that sort of work or contribute, that's always been the beauty of the MTO, if you want to play, you can play with other people that want to play too. Both types of nation (isolationist vs cooperative) are part of what makes Micras so interesting, and the MTO is at the service of both types, and to serve cooperative nations it must take a more active role in sponsoring and supporting initiatives to "standardize" the world in ways that make the world more real. The MTO serves isolationist nations by not being able to compel its members.
I would like to nominate the Kalgachi delegation to serve as deputy secretary general to reduce the Garden's fears that there is no impending MTO-induced mono-culture.

Re: Intent to Resign
The Garden must take exception to the statement "isolationist vs. cooperative" as a false dichotomy. It is possible to be isolationist and cooperative. A more appropriate characterisation of the spectrum would perhaps be "isolationist vs globalist".
While standardisation has brought great benefit to consenting participants in the past, and continues to do so, such initiatives are all too often used as a pretext to assert - or even actualise - imeprialist aspirations. I think in particular of past standardisation frameworks agreed by Natopia that avowedly cited the continent of Tapfer as an aspirational frame of reference in a time before the signatories became the continent's only occupants, an initative that spawned attempts at suspiciously parallel arrangements for Cibola and Benacia which, if fully implemented, would have normalised and legitimised the dominion of the SANE alliance, as it then was, over the entire Western Micran hemisphere - carrying with it a political baggage far beyond the means of mundane operating standards whose pursuit claimed the lives of millions in the War of Lost Brothers and was aided in its perverted efficiency by an intercontinental military-industrial complex grown upon the substrate of this apparently-harmless 'standardisation'. It would do the member states of this Assembly well to consider what might grow from the seed of MTO backing that Mr. Lungo is proposing to sow, how its roots might permeate their sovereign foundations, and how difficult it is to stop when it threatens to collapse the building.
However, the Natopian representative's clarifications are not without merit and his offer to nominate a Kalgachi deputy is gracious - the nomination is accepted. Kalgachia duly changes its vote to ABSTAIN and shall leave the wider Assembly to determine the question of Mr. Lungo's appointment.

Re: Intent to Resign
I think, in the future, we should go back to a week-long vote period. But considering this is big vote I would suggest the out-going SecGen end this vote after 2-weeks, which would end the vote on March 2nd (or so, depending on where you are int he world ). I think that seems fair to get things moving again.

Re: Intent to Resign
All this has happened before, and all this will happen again.
Re: Intent to Resign
I believe this vote should be considered ended. Those that voted against me, I will endeavor to prove the worthiness of the MTO as a neutral, apolitical, versatile, and essential organization.
