Well if you don't name a squad, you get battered
You beat them by more than we did, I'd bet on Craitland to win the final, although that would be cheating

Hamland 94-12 Novatainia (Hamland finish third)
Played today
The first Rugby League World Cup final looked, on paper,a great prospect, and the first 10 minutes definitely reflected that billing. The hosts went in confident, buoyed by their slim victory over Hamland in the semi final, while Craitland's emphatic victory over Novatania seemed to have a similar effect.
Mercury opened the scoring on 6 minutes, with a fantastic long pass out to the left wing opening up a gap for the first try to go 4-0 up. Craitland quickly responded, and a high kick pressured the Mercury full back, who knocked on under the posts, setting up an easy try to make it 6-4 on 9 minutes.
A 40/20 gained some valuable field position for Craitland, and as expected, it didn't go to waste, with a try just to the left of the posts on 18 minutes making it 12-4. Mercury closed the ga p with a try of their own on 26 minutes, hammering at the defensive line before eventuall breaking through. Craitland were not satisfied with a 12-10 half time lead, and continued to attack, and when Mercury were caught offside, a third try looked inevitable. This didn't proved to be the case though, after some quick thinking by Mercury's winger, a wide pass was intercepted, and he ran 90 metres to put Mercury back into the lead. The half time score was Mercury 16-12 Craitland.
The start of the second half saw Craitland attmpting to fix their previous mistake, and an early try helped to settle the team down, regaining their lead on 44 minutes. Then when the kick off went sailing into touch, Craitland were presented with another chance, and on the 4th tackle, a try in the corner made it 22-16.
Mercury didn't make the same mistake again from the kick off, instead kicking short to regain possession. A penalty for a high tackle gave them another set, on the 20 metre line, and they went in towards the right hand side to level the scores.
Craitland were trying everything to regain their lead, but conceding a penalty for obstruction slowed their progress, but on their next possession, a fantastic break was halted just 10 metres short of the line on the last tackle, so Craitland took a drop goal on 71 minutes to go 23-22 up. Mercury needed a quick reply, and that's exactly what they got, spotting the gap to go in under the posts. 28-23 with just 5 minutes to go looked a safe lead, but to Craitland, it as easily overturnable, and with 2 minutes left, a try in the corner put all the pressure on the kicker. The conversion rattling off the post was the last thng he wanted to see, and being 28-27 down made it harder to swallow.
The kick off went long, and was caught 10 metres away from te Craitland line. Thy reached the 30 before being tackled. A desperate kick upfield was miraculously caught with ne hand by the Craitland loose forward, who powered past three defenders before being stopped 40 metres from the Mercury line.
Then the controversy that so far, the tournament had gone without. As Craitland charged towards the defence, an unseen head butt by the Craitland forward, just out of sheer frustration more than anything, caused a brawl between 20 players. However, the referee had missed the head butt and seen the first punch thrown by Mercury. Two players were sent off for each team, and Craitland were awarded a penalty they didn't deserve. Opting to kick the goal, made the crowd even more hostile, and when it sailed between the uprights, thousands of spectators were streaming out of the ground. Craitland had sealed the win and became the first World Cup champions.

Re: 2012 Rugby League World Cup
Wow! Great result and a great game. Shame about the controversy, but he was only a post's width away from making it that score a minute before, so it was more sod's luck than anything! We're not really used to "winning dirty", so huge commiserations to Mercury, but also thanks for such a fantastic final in the first ever World Cup!
Also, be assured that the offending player in those final minutes will be heavily fined by the CrCRTA for poor conduct, although we do suggest that the referee take a few games off to get his head together again

You would understandably be frustrated in that situation. It wasn't anything malicious, it was just the way he ran into the tackle.

Even still, we would hope that our players remain professional throughout the entire game, regardless of the situation
