Breaking News
ROWLEY SACKED FROM FLORIAN JOB
In a shock decision by the FRFL board, due to a poor group stage Campaign which the Florian Republic were expected to win, Jack Rowley has had his contract terminated. Jack Rowley was the most successful coach of the national side but embarrassing defeats to Nova English Korea and Birgeshir plus a lucky win over Zandarijn has to lead to the FRFL to terminate his contract immediately. The Florian Republic have progressed but face a tough task against the hosts Senya at the Snakepit in the Quarter Finals. Wayne Adams and Sandro Betts, the coaches of the Florian State of origin sides will take temporary charge for the rest of the tournament. The Florian Republic have brought approx. 50K fans to the tournament with every match selling out, but poor results have lead to fans campaigning for Rowley to resign or be sacked.

Really happy for the win (!) and sorry for the Florians at the same time. If it's any consolation, losing against Birgeshir and Nova English Korea isn't that an "embarassing" and unexpected event in rugby league. Indeed, they're tough as well Best of luck!

Re: 2018 FMRL World Cup
Mercury 48–6 North Antarctica
Mercury eased into the semi-finals, sweeping aside previously unbeaten North Antarctica. Three early tries gave them a commanding 16-0 lead, and from there, they never really looked like letting it slip, with just one error shortly before half-time allowing their opponents onto the scoresheet. Cooper's boot was really the only downside to the performance, as he missed three conversions, including two routine kicks, and he will need to step it up if Mercury are to defeat some of the more testing sides in the later stages.
Birgeshir 28–20 Lusa
Birgeshir faced surprise package Lusa in the day's other quarter-final, and they ran it a bit closer, with the lead exchanging multiple times in the first half, first with Lusa going 4-0 up, and settling with Birgeshir being 12-10 to the good at the break. Two quick tries from the Lusana gave Birgeshir a scare, but Öňan's hat-trick in the last 15 minutes sent Lusa home, and Birgeshir to the semi-finals to face either Senya or the managerless Florian Republic.
