Space.....the final frontier *is shot*
Space.....the final frontier *is shot*
Well, I don't know how how the MCS views this subject (as even in my previous tenures here, it was never really brought up to the best of my knowledge) so I thought I would ask. So, before I go further, I apologize for what may become an abnormally long post for me. Anyway, I think that the main purpose, obviously, of the MCS is to maintain an up-to-date and accurate map of the micronations that are "part" of the MCS. Micras itself is a fictional planet in a (what I would assume to be) in a fictional universe. I stress the concept of fictional, and the reason why should become evident soon.
Thus, would it not be reasonable to allow nations (who wish to, anyway) to engage in space simulation at their own leisure? I know this brings up a lot of issues, namely "Nick, what about colonization, Micras really doesn't need to be mapping an entirely new planet" or "We shouldn't really have to worry about celestial bodies and so forth". Well, those are valid points, I do not refute the fact that it would be troublesome to maintain all of that simultaneously.
But again I point out that the MCS is solely a mapping organization for the planet of Micras. Would it not be more convenient for the participating nations (if any) to maintain their own maps? I know that leaves room for massive disputes but this is micronations, our very essence is derived from conflicts, contradictions, disputes and arguments. So, can I assume that the MCS would have no problems, that if/when I claim land on Micras, I can engage in space simulations without breaking any MCS rules? There are no rules against this in the charter (as far as I know).

May I redirect you to the MAS? Actually, I'll move this thread there
This is the place for all microastronomical stuff

Sounds good, I just wonder if anyone even maintains this organization anymore lol. Well basically as the administrator I was hoping you could tell me whether or not its okay for me (and/or others) to go about their business regarding places outside of the planet of Micras itself. I figured that as long as it doesnt interfere with Micras itself, there wouldn't be an issue.

Re: Space.....the final frontier *is shot*
The MCS doesn't recognise colonisation claims, and tends to prefer you not to colonise things in the Atos system that the MAS has deemed uninhabitable. There is nothing to restrict you from having a simulation including space colonies if you like though (just as alternate dimensions and strange subworlds aren't banned, though very few nations would acknowledge them if you say you have them). Heck, some nations even talk about having land on this strange place called earth. Where's that? I've never seen it on any of Spangle's star charts ...
Seriously though, as far as I can tell, as long as you don't force other nations to acknowledge it's existence, you can do what you like with space claims. Agree with other nations how to do it if you want international recognition. Natopia even began doing some work on just that a while ago.

Re: Space.....the final frontier *is shot*
Yeah, exactly as Andreas said. We're fine with any explorations, but saying you've inhabited officially unihabitable places would just look a tad silly
Although, from what I remember (there haven't been a lot of 'em), any bases on Tarsica (Micras' moon) would need a long backstory, and a lot of thought, design and reasoning if they were ever going to be accepted. I think the nation would have to be on Micras too.
But yeah, Andreas is right. As long as there are agreements and no "impossible" claims, there's nothing wrong with a bit of exploration

Re: Space.....the final frontier *is shot*
Well I figure that if I just do it, and it looks cool enough, nations might join in out of sheer interest. If they don't that is cool too. I will just keep out of the Atos system and not do anything ridiculous like making every planet discovered inhabitable and subsequently conquered by my micronation lol.

Re: Space.....the final frontier *is shot*
Many times I have tried to organise this, I wanted to make a council for it and such, but we didn't ever get anything done because I'm silly and didn't proceed with the matter any further
Basically a load of regulations need to be made on what is actually deemed doable. On Earth we see it's very very expensive to even get into low earth orbit, and also pretty darn dangerous to do it with humans, The space shuttle has a 2% death rate and 1 flight in 65 ends with the shuttle exploding and killing everyone, hence its retirement in the near future, but of course, we don't want to simulate the actual hard bits, we want to imagine cold fusion and anti-gravity, hence the massive confusions, maybe nations should have space categories or something? all of this needs sorting by first sorting the MAS council, which I shall probably look at tomorrow.
[POSTBOX]
Factuality: High, the failure rate really is 1 in 65, space shuttle will be retired, it is very expensive
Opinions: It's presumably an opinion that regulations need to be made, some could say they don't
Joking: Not a lot, sorry
Emotion: and some due to me not working on MAS better
Spelling & Grammar: I think it's probably rather good, I nearly put an apostrophe in "its" where it didn't need one, but fixed that...
Research Sources:
1) Originally the apollo program was estimated to cost $7billion, in the end it cost $25.4billion
2) Space shuttle death rates
3) Space shuttle retirement

Safiria has FTL travel and wormhole generators, that's how we get to and from Terra so quicklydr-spangle wrote:Many times I have tried to organise this, I wanted to make a council for it and such, but we didn't ever get anything done because I'm silly and didn't proceed with the matter any further

There are regular flights between Micras and Pollin, too. The technology is based on wormhole theory. The spaceships are well described - but I must find these descriptions!

Re: Space.....the final frontier *is shot*
I've written a tonne of stuff about how this can work in my notepad, I'll upload it all around wednesday-thursday time, it's about 10 pages in my little notepad and that's all shortened, it'll be a big post, it'll be confusing for anyone but me because i can't write coherently and everyone will probably hate it and it might well be scrapped.
Unlike my previous attempts, this one is based on backstories and writing and things that you like, rather than science and numbers like I like I hope this means you'll like it.

Factuality: It's not really a tonne of stuff, but it really is 10 pages in my notepad, I will try to upload it wednesday thursday time but i might fail, it should be a big post, compared to my other ones, it is based on backstories more than numbers, but i lied a bit because there is a big formula in there which i haven't yet invented.
Opinions: High, mostly opinions.
Joking: Not very high
Emotion:
Spelling & Grammar: I bet I've made a load of mistakes.
Research Sources: None but my notepad, which i can't currently link to.

There were also, IIRC stargate esq worm holes linking Micras to the lost planet of the Goose...
Re: Space.....the final frontier *is shot*
Oh sure, everyone and their mother claims to have wormholes or FTL ships, but Nelaga wants some flying islands and you all slant us as being some sort of scientific heretics.

Inside I hate the wormholes and I hate the FTL ships. I'm trying not to mention it as i fear it will lead to arguements.
