Where Spangle, where?

Post by Prof. Masters:[backstory]
[In a CIS astronomy lab outside Andromeda]
*In comes Professor Johnson, smiling.*
Prof. Johnson: Here it is, the last part of the data
Prof. Masters: Ah good, that's the last peice of data right? from the base in benecia?
Prof. Johnson: Yep
Prof. Masters: Great! we can start to peice it all together now!
Prof. Johnson: You better get the data into the programme quick, the people at MCS are expecting the star map soon.
Prof. Masters: I should just need to insert the co-ordinates and it'll do the rest for me, I've tested it while waiting for you...
Prof. Johnson: It's not my fault there were delays at Andromeda airport...
Prof. Masters: Yeah I know... Can I have the data now?
Prof. Johnson: Oh yeah... sorry
*Prof. Johnson hands a silver briefcase to Prof. Masters*
Prof. Masters: Thanks.
*Prof. Masters opens briefcase and sifts through papers of figures and finds a CD*
Prof. Masters: What's the CD?
Prof. Johnson: I don't know they just handed me the briefcase at the base...
*Prof. Masters puts the CD into the CD drive on the computer in front of him*
*after a little while of loading he sees a text file on the CD and opens it*
Prof. Masters: That's handy they've put all the figures on a text file for me, this will speed up the processing a lot...
*Prof. Masters starts tapping away at the keyboard, imports the text file to his programme and computer blips away converting it into the image file*
Prof. Masters: Wow, that was fast, it's done...
Prof. Johnson: Already?
Prof. Masters: Yeah... Tell the people at MCS it'll be ready much quicker than we thought, I'll just upload it..
*Prof. Masters uploads the image*
Prof. Masters: tell them the link is http://www.micromaps.org/maps/star_map.png
Prof. Johnson: Sure, they'll be happy it's finally complete I'm sure...
Prof. Masters: The stars will need naming eventually...
Prof. Johnson: Let's just get this base image out before people start yelling at us
Prof. Masters: Yeah you better get to the airport and fly to MCS HQ... I'll tell them you'll be there in a minute
*Prof. Masters posts a message on MCS forum saying that the Star map will be released in a second*
*Prof. Johnson takes off his labcoat and puts on a suit*
Prof. Johnson: Bye!
Prof. Masters: Bye!
*Prof. Johnson rushes out the door*
*Prof. Masters looks round the lab seeing everyone fully absorbed in what they're doing, after a second he opens the CD drive, takes out the CD of data and puts in a Command and Conquer CD, checks the LAN connection and plays against Prof. Palmer on the other side of the office*
[/backstory]
Prof. Johnson will be there in a second to give you the link to the starmap

Where can we assume the plane of the ecliptic to be?
Which stars are the ones that are most commonly over the Novatainia/Tokidoki - I'll name those ones ...
(because I know southern and northern hemisphere see different stars, so ...)

You would see a 45 degrees above and 45 degrees below the city in question and all the way across.
erm...
like these examples:
one character is 30 degrees by 30 degrees
. = not seen
- = seen
+ = city

Well, since Spangle kindly explained what sort of range Novatainia would see of stars, and Nathan is the only other person jumping up and down to do constellations, I figured the fair thing would be for me to take the top chunk, over Novatainia, Nathan can take the bottom chunk, over Natopia, and someone else can do the middle (only one of my constellations goes below 10 degrees, the majority are above 20)

Obviously Red is the name of the Constellation (like Tauros) and yellow the explanation (like The Bull). The two names in blue represent two constellations named separately from the rest ... not in the map, but in Novatainian legends ... (too complicated to explain, don't worry)
And for those interested (as the top map only shows the northern half of the Maelstrom) this is the full one:

I left the top left corner of the map in place so you can see it's context in terms of "degrees"
