My Idea for Space Programs at MAS
Re: My Idea for Space Programs at MAS
You see what happened here. This idea walked a rocky path from being a complicated failure, to being simple and a contender for success. There are situations where having some procedure is appropriate, and here, it is a good thing to have just this much procedure: To have someone at the MAS who can tell a New-Empire to fuck off and in the next breath lay out the red carpet for a VERA, making decisions simply on the quality and impact of their work. Pretty much the only complication beyond that is that the someone is a council rather than a person - but it's a small price to pay for the redundancy advantage and the fact that rejections and acceptances won't be personal then anymore. Maybe some bookkeeping details too, but nobody outside the MAS will have to complicate their life with them.

Re: My Idea for Space Programs at MAS
My memory from five years ago was shaky as well, so I went back to our archived forums. While the backstory was not quite epic in its literary quality, it was enacted over a period of time. We cheated a tiny bit by instantly having the construction facilities. But our program was launched Dec 29, 2005. The first vessels, small short range craft were finished on Jan 12, 2006. On Jan 26, larger 2-man vessels were completed, and they were launched to Tarsica to touchdown and return. Our giant space-carrier was constructed over a month, and the Natopian International Space Station was constructed over a period of four months. A month after the NISS was completed, the Tarsican base was designed. A month later, it was en route to the moon and set up (it was a pre fabricated design using components of a second carrier already in construction) on Sept 27 2006. So almost nine months from initial small vessel construction to a moon colony.dr-spangle wrote:@Andreas: I've given up on the random number thing now, backstory is the important bit really and new-empire's moon base certainly lacked any of that, I can't specifically speak for interland and Natopia, while I don't think there was much backstory, there might well have been, I haven't researched them much

So what we need to do then is to make a charter and choose a council.
I should be able to work on a charter once november starts, there won't be a lot to put in the charter anyway, just a couple basic things on how the system works, and how the council works and is appointed.
Not sure how we'll choose a council, it's always a problem, elections might work but first we would need a decent number of applicants, (over 5 or so.)

Re: My Idea for Space Programs at MAS
I would be interested in taking part both as the President of hi-tech country and a possible council member. And we would have to re-establish everything we've got... Not a problem considering that our civil space program was in its infancy...

I wouldn't mind helping, either.

I've also done some... And will probably do some more. The most recent work of mine is here: http://pawelabrams.deviantart.com/art/P ... -184239252

But I actually use a program (I forgot the name, should re-install it) with an add-on of Bill, which makes it possible to 'travel' through the (MCS) galaxy and take pictures, film it,...
I remember that I succeeded in bringing a 3D model of a satellite in the orbit of Micras as a test (and I can also add planets, etc.), which would make it possible for the MAS to publish their own version with recognised satellites and probes flying around. That could make it a bit more interesting for other micronationalists to get recognised by the MAS as we would only add those who are recognised by us.

Was that Celestia? I remember it being quite moddable. And you could edit the Solar System to be Atos System ;D
You're doing the 'realistic' photos and videos, so probably I'll stick to "high resolution photos" and "artistic rendering".

Very nice pics!
I remember there was a PS plug-in for creating planets, but there were not as realistic as this one

I would so, so be down for helping out with the OP's scheme. I hope this is still active?

Re: My Idea for Space Programs at MAS
We're only just starting to get the MAS active again. I think we should resume the discussions about standardising the Atos system first before moving on to more advanced stuff.
Re: My Idea for Space Programs at MAS
We could leave some of the details (beyond the basic ones) about other planets deliberately vague so people can give us their findings (as long as they are relatively reasonable).
Re: My Idea for Space Programs at MAS
I have to agree with Joe. Whether we wait for someone to "discover" the details, or we write those details ourselves, it still needs to be done. The Atos System has already been in flux for a decade; it would be nice to simply finalize some of this material formally. Hence we now have a committee, and I'll be putting up some ideas for a basic charter so that we have a framework system we can move ahead with.

Re: My Idea for Space Programs at MAS
As I suggested in another thread, we could just sort of lay down the basic information for most of the planets (say, for example, at a level analogous to what we knew about other planets in the solar system in the 1950s from observation...probably a little bit more because Micran technology has obviously advanced beyond that level despite having not had a vast number of long duration space programs), and we can add more to what is known from reports (obviously those deemed reasonable on the basis of the 'framing' data given by you lot) from the discoveries of various national space programs - by explicitly stating something like "The A7 probe from suchandsuch discovered xyz" on the wiki article, we would be encouraging that the names of those who get involved in this MAS stuff would be instrumental in defining the sector in a fundamental way.
