Do we have GPS?
Do we have GPS?
Yes? No? And if no... first reasonably established and advanced nation to say they've got a GPS constellation up gets to have theirs be considered canon for me
(fwiw all I really need is a radio time signal so I guess I could just say that Shireroth has a time signal station or two, but GPS would be so much neater)

Re: Do we have GPS?
I don't think any nation really has the capabilities required by themselves (ie no-one is as big as the US, and only the EU is coming close to their own GPS system) but I think Alexandria and Ashkenatza (at least) would be interested in a consortium approach, if anyone else would like to join?
Re: Do we have GPS?
I'm interested.

I'm sorry ... you don't think nations like Shireroth, Gralus or Babkha are as big as the US?Guido Zambelis wrote:I don't think any nation really has the capabilities required by themselves (ie no-one is as big as the US, and only the EU is coming close to their own GPS system) but I think Alexandria and Ashkenatza (at least) would be interested in a consortium approach, if anyone else would like to join?
But yes, a joint system would make more sense.

I'm not sure that they have the massive economies, supporting industries, political drive etc. No-one on Micras quite occupies the kinda position that the US does on Earth.
Ah yeah, I didn't know that GLONASS was back working again, my bad.

Re: Do we have GPS?
Interland had six satellites, but will lose them if spangle's idea gets finally accepted. The story of InPoS was lost when we moved some time in the past.

Re: Do we have GPS?
6 isn't nearly enough for a GPS system, but i hadn't thought about the idea that space missions might have had a backstory but it might now be missing...
I would feel bad saying no because of dodgy hosting, that's not really fair at all... but I could see the "well you say you had a backstory, so i'll trust you did" getting exploited somewhat...
That's a confusing scenario, I suppose it would need to be done on a case by case basis by the MAS council...

Re: Do we have GPS?
It wasn't a global positioning system, they were at very confusing orbits, two of which were Micras-stationary, and the rest were Micras-synchronous. They provided an accurate location markers for points within 3600 km from 105 E 0 N.
The backstory wasn't rich and was written in Polish - so I would need to translate it anyway. There won't be much to make up, as I remember most of my writing.

Re: Do we have GPS?
We're working on launching our first rocket into space in Hamland. We're looking at getting the most out of a flight into space as well, so I'd be happy to help a GPS project too.
Re: Do we have GPS?
Babkha is also getting a space program off the ground (pun) and, while I don't know what it entails in regards to assisting with this GPS project, I'll do my best to contribute to it.

Re: Do we have GPS?
Most essentially we need to launch 24. The others will just improve the accuracy.
