Motorsports League?

I've asked this before, but there seems to be a growing interest in fantasy sports, so.... Would anyone be interested in participating in a fantasy motorsports league?

I pretty much have the format down as to how it would work, but want to judge general interest before taking it further.

So I briefly freaked and went "WHO DELETED MY THREAD?!" :P

Anyways, I've been looking into fantasy motorsports - how they run, rules, etc - and think I've got a system that'll work for micronations.

Basically, we create tracks in our own nations, rank the tracks according to difficulty, then create teams (drivers + cars), and then compete. Teams accumulate points that advance them to the next track; each track has a set prize, and the prize value increases with track difficulty.

Only part I need to figure out is how to determine results - either randomly or by using a points-based system. How do you guys calculate FMF matches?

FMF matches usually use football games to sim the matches.

So far the closest thing I've found is this site: http://motorsport.fantasyleaguegp.com/ and http://www.fantasyindycar.com/

Both seem to use a points-based system.

There's also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy_auto_racing

Senya's in, definately.

As for the simulation, I think either of those programmes you have suggested look very good.

Working name for now is the Micronational Motorsports League (MML).

Thanks to Lord Erion for pulling together some old stuff from back in the day, I've been able to put together a quick draft of some rules. Feedback is certainly welcome. The point system is tentative at this.... point. I want to refine and simplify it further.
1. Rules

1.1 General remarks about Formula 1
Formula Z is a motor sport, which will be conducted on the tracks selected by the MML (Micronational Motorsports League). The number of tracks will be set before the beginning of each season, to make further extensions of the program possible. Extensions during a season are not possible.
1.2 Participation rules
People represent a team to MML. Each RL person can only have one driver; team size is at the player’s discretion. Participation can be through your main account/login name or a puppet. Disregard of the participation rules will lead to exclusion from motor sports for an undefined amount of time.

1.3 Drivers, teams, etc.
Drivers without a team will run as independent, which is possible, too, of course. At the end of the season a ranking of the teams will be calculated. The points of the teams are the cumulative points of all drivers of a team.

1.4 The Race
Races will be held over 10 laps. For each lap, every driver will pick a number of his own choice. The sum of these ten numbers may not be higher than 50. For example: 8-2-3-7-…. <= 50. Furthermore, every driver selects a number between 1 and 10. This number will be used for the “photo finish”, to decide a winner when two or more drivers gather the same amount of racing points within a race. This number will be compared with a random number; the driver who had chosen a number closest to the random number wins the race.
The race leader, in general a member of the MML, calculates the score from the numbers selected by the drivers. The individual values picked by the drivers are compared. The driver who has the highest number in a lap wins that lap. After each lap an intermediate ranking will be calculated. The winner of a lap gets 10 points, the second 8, the third 6… (see section 1.5). The racing points are added; the driver who has collected most racing points wins the race and gets 10 championship points, the second gets 8 championship points, etc. If you have 0 racing points, you cannot get any championship points, unless less than 8 drivers pick numbers for the race. If you don’t pick your numbers, your car will be out of the race due to mechanical failure. When two drivers have collected the same amount of racing points, they will get the same amount of championship points, provided to finish among the first 8.

1.5 Points and overall ranking
The MML will distribute points for the classification in a race. The winner gets 10 points, the second gets 8 points, and the third gets 6 points, then 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 for the positions 4 till 8. All points are added, resulting in an overall ranking. After the last race of the season, the winner will be announced. When two or more drivers have collected the same amount of championship points during a season, the driver with the most victories in the individual races wins the championship. If that still leads to a tie, the number of second, third, etc. places will be compared. Furthermore, there will be a team ranking, for which the amount of points of both drivers will be added.

1.6 The tracks
Sketches of the tracks are submitted to the MML and must be approved before any official race can be conducted on that track.

1.7 Sponsors
The managers of the racing tracks can attract sponsors. Local laws have to be obeyed regarding this sponsoring. Teams are allowed to have all kinds of sponsor contracts. The MML does not have to ratify these contracts.

1.8 Other rules
Tracks must be between 5 and 20 miles in length.

1.9 Finally
For questions and suggestions, contact the MML.

It irks me to no end that tracks have to be at least 5 miles. I think that's a bit much, especially since that makes the vast majority of Terran racetracks completely unusable.

I totally agree on this.

Kingstown Raceway is 3.103kms, which is normal for a Terran track, yet here, it's miles too short...

Alright, I'll reduce the limit to 2 miles.

Is this still in the works?

I hope so, but we don't really have enough tracks yet and Orion is taking an indefinite sabbatical anyway, so there's no rush. I plan to hopefully be able to contribute two more tracks this year.
