Thunder in the East
Princess Yuling watched at the man who was seated in front of her. The man - not even more than a 14 year old boy - was merely a shadow of his former self. He had been awake for the past few days, having been allowed to sleep on irregular moments, after which he was rudely awoken by his guards. It was always followed by an interrogation, in which his interrogators asked him the same questions over and over again.
The interrogator next to the Princess shook his head, while not showing any emotion on his face. This was mirrored very well by the princess herself, who didn't want to show her personal dislike of what was happening here. The nation could not allow any weakness. Certainly not now.
"So... what did you discover, zhu Thong?" the princess asked while keeping an eye on the boy who was now unconscious. Officer Thong didn't seem taken aback that such an important member of the Imperial Household had spoken to him directly. And if he was, he wasn't showing it.
"Your Highness, it seems that our suspicions were right. This boy, who served in the Florian presidential palace, didn't know a lot, but after careful... interrogating... him, we have some more knowledge about what's going on." said Thong, while staring at the boy in front of them.
Yuling almost pitied the boy: probably he was one of those few children who had gotten lucky to find work after the Xhusor War, which had left the Florian Republic in a devastated and almost bankrupt state. He had been near important people and seen and heard important things. And that was what had made him the Tegong's target: the disappearance of a child wouldn't raise much suspicion. He was of Xhusorian descent, so even if people found out, the Tegong could make it look like the boy had escaped to Xhusor.
Princess Yuling became impatient. She wanted to leave this dark room and go upstairs, into the fresh air. "And...?"
"Well, our suspicions were right. The palace has been visited frequently by Shirerithian diplomats. Them leaving the USSO wasn't a coincidence."
"You really are a Sherlock Holmes, aren't you?" the princess asked with an irritated voice. She wasn't hearing anything new and really didn't like the stink and atmosphere of the room. The Tegong officer remained unshaken by her irritated remark. Perhaps he even saw it as a compliment. Hard to tell with this kind of people who had sworn to protect their Imperial Family with their life.
"Well, Your Highness, the point is that we're now convinced that the Shirerithians are colluding with the Florians, aiding them to build up their army and airforce and slowly gaining more influence in their administration. Rumours about assassinations have also become rather common, but we can't say if they are the ones plotting them, or if they are expecting one. Several nations and names have been mentioned: Coria, Krasnarus, Srbozemlje, and even Jingdao."
The princess sighed. After days of interrogation, this was all what they could come up with. Her brother, the Heavenly Light, would not be pleased. She only knew two things: that while the guards took the boy away to his cell, it was clear to her that the east was rapidly becoming a powder keg. And that she could really use a cup of tea and a bit of sunshine.
