*clears the pizzas* New Project
Micronational historians, interested onlookers, random noobs, welcome.
The AF hasn't been up to much. Occasionally me and Spangle get together to do some work on archiving websites and forums, but that doesn't really count. I want to make the Foundation much more... involved in the community. It's all well and good having a little safety box for dead nations and that, but the Foundation *should* be trying to get people to be actively in touch with their history. And it's true, you are all part of Micran history. So let's get some work done together!
Probably the most successful project any member of the Foundation has ever undertaken was Scott's great micronational history book, Microscope (info here). Problem is that it starts juuust before my time, the great boom of the Lovely Sector, the Circum Raynor, the absolute final death of micronational communism, Antica's troubles, Shireroth's re-revival, Babkha's revival, slow death of the GC... there exists no real history of this stuff. There are individual nation histories here and there which might mention this stuff but nothing concrete. I want something concrete. So we're going to make something concrete.
And so I propose (assuming Scott doesn't mind us stealing his name) "Microscope II" (A close-up look at two Lovely years of micronational history ).
This project will hopefully be completed over the Summer collaboratively by the whole community, or as many of you as want to be in this history book. No seriously, I'm going to need all of youses help to pull this off. It won't be anywhere near as good as the original, but hey, if we don't do it, who will?
Heh, off topic, look at the questions posed by Scott at the end of Microscope:
The GC did indeed puff along until it died.
Lovely did become very much a part of this sector. Admittedly there were only about 3 actual Lovelyites that hanged around (ISIT, Montague, Babs), but NB and all the CIS nations wouldn't really have existed in the way they did without Lovely, so it probably did change the sector a hell of a lot.
Shireroth... ooh Shireroth... let's just say it's got new citizens.
So. Interest?

Poor Antica. The following are the questions whose answers I think will determine the next year in the Micras Sector:
Can Antica re-unite properly? If it can, it could certainly become the most prominent country in the sector; it has always held vast untapped creative potential. If not, the Republic seems likely to stay a medium-sized nation, but one with a distinct sense of pride and a loyal citizenry.
How will the Grand Commonwealth solve its activity woes? If it chooses to unite more fully, it could become both more dangerous and more prone to internal conflict. If it chooses to remain a loose confederation, with the individual states sapping activity, not very much is likely to come of it, and it will probably just puff along until it dies.
Will Lovely become a full part of the Micras Sector? If so, it would certainly transform the sector beyond recognition. If not, then Lovely will probably remain somewhat alien and be considered only a footnote to our history.
Will Shireroth find a way to keep new citizens, rather than just letting people outside its inner circle do their own thing and eventually wander off? If it solves this problem, it has every possibility of going up into the stratosphere and becoming huge; if not, it will remain where it has remained ever since the Mango-Camel Pact.
The GC did indeed puff along until it died.

This would be going in time up to nowish then? I'd be delighted to help (with the histories I've been involved in, at least)

Well I think we could stop at around the point where the whole caffuffle about Hasan being Kaiser and Shah ended...
Good to see you guys are in. Anyone else?

The history of the Dutch sector of micronations, while being a point of interest, will not be the focus of this book, I can tell you that now. Apollo Foundation - history of Micras sector - these things don't limit the histories to just Anglophonic micronations, but they should actually matter.
Needless to say however I was planning to include Batavié (sorry - alrt gr only gave me that accent) due to its links with Shireroth and the Micras Sector in general...
