Re: Statement on the Geocities closure
Spangle, can you change the links on the sites, so it doesn't link to the original website but to the page on your site?

Re: Statement on the Geocities closure
wget did what it can but there are a few thousand files there
I could make a php and mysql system to slowly go through them, show me the source so I could edit it and save it
Or you could link me to the sites which have broken links and I can edit them manually without a system?

Re: Statement on the Geocities closure
Thanks to this post I've discovered another secret directory (a Shireroth Atlas) that otherwise would have been missed: http://www.geocities.com/apollostates/SAtlas/

Re: Statement on the Geocities closure
Geocities is closing on october 26th, this gives us 45 days remaining.
Basically, now, if you have ANY links to pretty much ANY geocities page, send me them.

Only one more day to go before Geocities disappears! Last chance for your sites to be backed-up.

Re: Statement on the Geocities closure
I've been backing up a lot of sites.
I've done full abckups on 5 sites, sorta.
amokolia, apolloskyline, giantsquid1_1999, jasonian22 and newaudentior
I have been given passwords for them and hence made a list of every file on each account and was able to tell wget to download them
however, with giantsquid1_1999 wget tells me that yahoo has tried to block it from downloading the files.
I'll try again with more delay between files, but... it might not work. I'm thinking about upgrading it to the geocities pro package, then it won't be deleted? costs £3, I'm happy to pay £3 to save it

Re: Statement on the Geocities closure
Well, you might have to pay for a year's hosting in advance.
There does appear to be about a 4Mb/hour limit on these sites. I have my own backups of the giantsquid1_1999 sites that I found, but you can probably see a lot more.

Re: Statement on the Geocities closure
ah, that explains it...
ok
welll
I didn't pay because yes, they wanted a year payment and I went to Paris
I think the backup worked in the end.
I will be .tar.gzing the lot and uploading it somewhere for you all eventually
