War League
Hey everyone,
As you may or may not know, my country, Passas, has a long and rich history of feudal warfare. In brief, the long lasting lack of a central government allowed for the rise of a handful of regional powers, which are reflected today by the province borders. Nowadays Passasians honor their warlike heritage by engaging in occasional mock wars between the states. There are two types of these tournaments. The first, and the most widely celebrated, are the War Games themselves, which are actual wars between the states, and the Cities' Tournaments, which can be understood as a watered down version of the War Games, in the sense that risk of loss of life is minimal. Both competitions, the War Games and the Cities' Tournaments, are won in the same way. The victorious province wins by conquering a set number of cities. The most recent competition was the Cities Tournament. After 11 rounds, played out over the past couple of days, Bel-Air proved the tournament's victor. To view coverage of the tournament, refer to this link: http://www.mncommunities.org/hamland/fo ... 7&start=90.
To wrap this up, I'm posting here because it was suggested that there might be interest in playing a War League World Cup. Personally, I'd really like to see this happen. If nothing else, this provides the community with a new and different type of sport for nations to partake in. At most, it offers a fairly solid foundation for future recwars. Although it might appear complex, the rules are very simple. Basically, units can move one space per turn into any adjacent square. The combat mechanism is that of the board game Diplomacy; in order to capture an occupied, unsupported space, one requires the support of a second army. Players are encouraged to form alliances and to betray one another at their convenience. Again, the ultimate aim is to capture a predetermined number of centers, or cities, by the most efficient and strategically sound means possible. For the tournament I linked earlier, the predetermined goal was 9 cities. As you can see, this was no easy task (even though I was totally playing against myself).
Anyway, I'd like to gauge interest when it comes to making the War League an international competition. Would anyone be interested in playing a friendly tournament, maybe some time around the first of the month? In the meantime, we could draft a simple charter and a more former rule set for the games. If you'd like to be involved then let me know!

If you're still interested, Joe, come on over to Hamland and we can draft some rules for a tournament between Passas and Mercury.
