In 1698 AN, the New Batavian governorates of Dar Al-Hoeriya and Al-Ard Al-Moestasliha voted for independence in a referendum, mainly on linguistic issues. In 1699 AN they seceded peacefully from New Batavia to form the Sultanate of Kurum Ash-Sharqia.
