War Backstory - Take 2
Ok, here's my attempt at a whole war backstory, which I hope should be acceptable to all as it gives both sides a positive excuse for the war. It's basically a fleshed out and gramattically improved version of what Swampy posted, and what's happened afterwards.
Oh, and sorry for referring to you as a "little known New Brittanian Noble," but the parallels to World War 1 were too great to miss.
Spangle, put CIS in as there the nation that seems most likely to be dealing with munitions.
Notes: Jeremy, don't know the correct way to address an Earl, so I went with Lordship. Sorry that I kept using you as the only person on your side, but at the conference, you were ..."BASTARD!" Earl Henry shouted as he left the conference room.
"Your Lordship?" a chamberlain asked "What is the matter?"
"That Bastard of a ruler in charge of CIS, thinking he can just waltz into my house! and then demand that we agree to munitions trafficking across our own soil and whilst we're supposed to be determining the the leaders of the M8! That utter BASTARD!"
"Your Lordship?" another chamberlain said as he poked his head round the door of the conference room. "The other leaders are getting restless..."
"Right, I'll be there in a moment" he said as he grabbed a cup of tea from a passing servant. Earl Henry strolled back into the conference room looking refreshed and calm, a calm which was shortly to be tested.
"Ah Earl Henry," Hamperor Miller said as he sat down "I trust that you are still able to debate?"
"Yes I am Hamperor, and thank you for your concern," he said as he shot a dark look at Dr Spangle, who merely smiled back.
"Well, I think we can return to the matter at hand" King Craitman said as he glanced nervously around the conference room.
"Indeed we can!" High Chancellor Joris Alexander said, his booming voice carrying easily across the conference room, "Now the matter of the M8, as we have seen," he shot Earl Henry an apologetic look, "is a touchy one and I for one would prefer to not have another group of nations with their own laws etc."
"Oh yes, we all know that you don't want a MN group but since you seem to be the only one objecting maybe you should keep the idea to yourself" President Davis said with contempt stenciled across his sentence.
"Gentlemen!" Earl Henry said his voice louder than usual "You are both guests in my house and you will not resort to snide comments or violence"
"Apologies your Majesty" President Davis said, High Chancellor Joris merely continued to glare un-blinkingly at President Davis.
"Now, can we go onto the matter of economy?" Andreas the Wise began, but Earl Henry ignored him.
"Now, about the membership of Babkha," Earl Henry continued, when he was stopped by some laughing. He glanced angrily around the room until he spotted High Prince Babs. "What is so funny, Babs?" he asked.
"Babkha has no influence these days," Babs said.
"They are one of the great!" Earl Henry declared.
"Great?" scoffed King Lyam. "They do nothing now. Tokidoki and Novatainia, now they're great nations. The other "superpowers" gave up long ago."
"How can you talk?" Earl Henry demanded. "Your nation has barely been around for anytime, and Novatainia for less."
"Hey," King Lachlan cautioned. "My dynasty may only have begun after the revolution, but Novatainia ..."
"... can trace it's roots back to the beginning of time," Andreas finished for him.
"Yes," Lachlan said. "Wait, beginning?"
"We've all heard of your little history, Andreas," Earl Henry said, "but what we're talking about is superpowers NOW. And Babkha, Stomark and Alexandria are all definitely among them."
"I beg to differ," Andreas said. "As a historian, I fully agree they were great in there time. But that was a hundred years ago - what do they do now? Face it, Henry, the old world order has fallen. New Brittania is still great, but they are great on their own. True, the nations you mentioned are still good nations, and better than many of the new ones, but they are no longer great. A new world order is emerging, and the MI are definitely among them."
"You young whippersnapper," someone yelled, "what do you know of greatness?"
"Old farts," another yelled, "you're so stuck in the past you wouldn't know a good new idea if it danced naked in front of you ..."
And suddenly everyone was up, and fists were flying everywhere. Nobody knows who made the first blow, but it was Earl Henry who went flying ...
And the punching of a little known New Brittanian noble was like the finger pushing a chain of dominoes, as treaty knocked down treaties, and Micras found World War 2 at it's gate. On one side the Old Order had drawn ranks, to show these young upstarts that, together at least, they were still a force to be reckoned with, along with a few young nations who didn't trust their own resources. On the other side were the New Order, standing valiantly against the overwhelming odds, and fighting to take up their well deserved spot among the great. The challenge now lay with those middle nations, and who they would support. Would they go with the old order, ensure their victory, but ruin any chance of standing "non-aligned" again, or would they support the underdog, the new nations, and risk their own destruction, but also, fight for their true place in the New Micran World Order.
