The people that would adopt it first are we of the 1%. So it fails.Guido Zambelis wrote:just because something doesn't run on an os that has under 1% of the market share doesn't make it a failure.

If Microsoft made IE 8 not work on windows, would it be a failure. Yes.Guido Zambelis wrote:just because something doesn't run on an os that has under 1% of the market share doesn't make it a failure.
If you make something to go in your product range that doesn't work with the other products, it is a failure.
If it only works on your enemies products it's useless unless it's an installer for yours...
*wonders if google chrome is set to install goobuntu on everyone who uses it's computers, It could be, because the people who use XP and Vista are the ones who don't give a crap about open source and wouldn't check the code for goobuntu installers*

Google doesn't exist to pander to the needs of the very few people who use OSes other than Win/Mac. In sheer number terms, the number of people downloading Chrome on Windows would be higher than those on Linux if it was available. Google care about making money, they're a public corporation. Their largest audience is Windows users. Guess where they're going to concentrate their efforts? At the end of the day, their bottom line isn't going to be a failure when the number of people using Google's cloud services rises dramatically as a result of Chrome integration.Bayen wrote:The people that would adopt it first are we of the 1%. ok.
we're going statistical now?
well... in which case we should predict future trends not just look at the past 10 years and say that's a constant.
which OS has had the highest percentage rise in the past year (or at least since the release of vista)? Linux.
Which one is being sued constantly about their anti-competition efforts and is losing billions each month to courts? Windows.
I think that might define future trends.

a whole 0.93%.
windows has been pretty constant since december 2007, at 91%.
hope the link works, but this demonstrates pretty clearly where google should be focusing their efforts

For example, Spangle's signature thinks I'm using Internet Explorer on the Vista. But I'm really using Firefox on the Linux.
