Officers responded to a call from the Ivy Leaf Club in Burnhope, County Durham, just before 1.30am, after an alarm was triggered.
A small amount of cash was taken from a safe in the bar, a spokesman for Durham Police said.
Police spotted a set of tracks in the snow leading away from the club.
The "clear clues" led the officers along a track for several hundred yards before they disappeared into a council house in the village, the spokesman said.
A man aged in his 20s was arrested at the house on suspicion of burglary and is being questioned at Consett Police Station.
The North East was badly affected by the snowfall, with some areas experiencing snow as deep as 20cm (8in).
Police advised motorists not to travel in the area unless the journey was absolutely necessary, and reported accidents throughout County Durham, Teesside and Tyne and Wear.

Stupid Brits who dont know how to drive. Learn from us colonists! We do such a better job in Canada!
Hell, we got snow, ice and 100 km/hr winds, yet we keep driving our 2-wheel drive, 20 year old vehicles! (I speak of Alberta).

Anyway, you get that kind of weather 90% of the time! We get it every 4 blue moons! Wet and Miserable suits us down to the ground! *shakes fist at the colonial!*

"Proceed around the round about in a direction contrary to the established flow of traffic" if it makes you happier. Either way it is an interesting experience, almost as much fun as going over the top of one.

Heh- well, it's good we've got some snow at least, but nothing quite in comparison to my memories of North-Eastern Europe and its glorious killer icicles!
Re: The OMFG Snow thread
But why do the BBC need to spend 15 mins going "Oh my god, it's snowing". I can see that from my fecking window!
Sometimes I think we pay TV license to make sure these prats don't get a job anywhere where they might cause some harm.

Re: The OMFG Snow thread
I understand a 2 minute report saying that the country has been affected by snow, but last night it was 16 minutes of it.
