also, a currency is defined largely (or at least partially) by the amount of it in circulation, the less in circulation, the more it's worth...
Your system prints more currency whenever needed, mine has 0 points in the system all the time. The negative points totally cancel out the positive points

Re: Geekpoints
Spangle, our system is for everyone, whilst yours is for whomever you deem worthy.
Ours is more valid as it isn't obscured by personal opinion.
Plus, we have rules, you need pop-culture references or obscure sci-fi references from the 70's .

I don't see how if I argue that if someone meets certain criteria they may win points, regardless of who they are, can be turned against me.

We agree that there are no official criteria for "appropriate pop-culture speak", right? So, basically, it's up to you to judge what is appropriate. This means that your opinion will still influence it somehow.

Pop culture = Tv, Film, Music, Book etc references. How can my opinion influence what a book is for example?

The Bible's a book, right? Would you classify that as "geeky" enough to deserve geek points?
Oh, so it's not every book? Just certain books in certain genres? Who decides the borders of those genres? Who decides if the books are 'geeky' enough to deserve geek points? Will everyone in the world have the same opinion of those?
For that matter, I'm not sure you're actually all that geeky. People who make a big show of it usually aren't. Being a geek isn't about discussing geeky TV shows or listening to geek music all the time instead of normal TV shows and normal music. That's just trying to be cool within a different peer group. While you're watching your 70s TV shows, the real geek is trying to write computer programs to test principles of game theory or something.

The Wikipedia definition of 'Geek' isScott Alexander wrote:While you're watching your 70s TV shows, the real geek is trying to write computer programs to test principles of game theory or something.
Therefore to classify as 'geeky' you don't need to be sitting at a computer trying to delegate 24 hours between coding, sleeping and touching yourself."a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, etc."
