Going to the Press =o
Yeah.. me being me, I've decided to see if I can 'advertise' Micronationalism a bit. I've emailed the editor of the Grantham Journal and asked for a story to be printed about Micronationalism, just to highlight to Grantham, and maybe parts of Lincolnshire/whoever visits their website, about who we are. I'll C+P the email.. and if there is a story, later, I'll give a link to that. Maybe I'm mad.. but it might gather some interest and get some new people in. Any suggestions on what to say (as it'll probably be a spoken-print interview x_x)..
Email went as follows:
Email went as follows:
"Dear <editor name here>,
My name is Rebecca Panks and I am writing to you to request a story, for printing in the Grantham Journal. I would be interested in finding out how to do this and what requirements the piece would need (such as word limitations for example).
The story I intend to write would be as follows. I have noticed how many people are becoming more wary of the internet and how this may put people off taking part in the social aspects and some of the wonders that are presented to us on the net. I would like to highlight one, in perticular, which is a hobby of mine: Micronationalism. Simulationist Micronations are a worldwide hobby based around the creation of a model country (usually by means of forum and websites, using free web hosting), where people undertake in the formation of a online community that works towards the main goal of creation. It has been described as 'intellectual humour', as people (usually between the ages of fourteen and twenty five) work together to create anthems, maps of their country, flags, laws, micronational news reports, radio stations, simulated wars between the countries, 'Micro-vision' (an adaption to the Eurovision, in which we chose/create songs to enter and give votes, alike the popular real life event), Micronational-Olympics, T-shirts, logos, forum skins.. anything that could define the country as individual.
I feel that this hobby should be shared with our comunity, as not only does it encourage people to be creative, but it also teaches them. I first joined the hobby not knowing hardly anything about how a country was run, its politics or history. Being in Micronations has helped me understand the different aspects of these things, whilst also teaching me to type correctly and be more confident in my PC skills (such as HTML, BBcode and general forum practice).
I hope this has interested you and I look forward to your reply, with any information you could give me on what is expected for a story to be printed. Thank you for reading.
Yours Sincerely"

I will send a message to some big bakery, asking them to produce cookies with flags of micronations. I have some pictures I can show 'em as examples.
No, nice effort Artz

Keenness is what this hobby is all about. Naturally, it'll destroy your free time in the end...
I've always thought of micronationalism as a pie. You eat away into it, then when you're in too deep, the crust collapses so you can't dig your way back out. But by then you're addicted to the taste, so it don't matter!

I'm trying to think of another way one could interpret that post.
