Description: Country
Hopefully the first of many descriptions with countries.. as it cures my boredom for a while and is more thrilling than homework. I hope anyone who decides to read enjoys it.. just my personal views/fidnings on different nations. Comments are welcome..
Amokolia
Amokolia, the ‘seen-to-be’ creation of Jess… Jess…and…yet again, Jess. Don’t hear much from them lately, since the whole “we need to be free†scene in Ocia… but they used to be a nation mainly known for ‘The place where Jess lies’, its culture and the court procedures of Jean. A quick look at the new boards will bring you a proboards site in a warning, glaring red-to-white gradient with bold blue writing. I guess its ok on the looks-front… I mean… I’ve seen worse.
I’m not really sure about Amokolia. See, take it back a year or so ago and everyone hated it. It was the Ocia of today, most people would never take it seriously in a million years and Jess was the local picking ground. I think it was Babs who returned and was quite confused as to why that had stopped… but it does seem to have stopped recently. It’s almost scary to think that Jess has grown up in the last year… but maybe that’s a good thing. However, it seemed that along with Jess’ growing up/quietening down (whichever the cause may be), Amokolia has gone up a level in its formality and views.
Back when I was starting to find things for the Micronational comic, Chrimigules and I were thinking up ideas for random stories and Amokolia popped up for one of them. I found it quite funny to imagine it as a land with one giant statue of Jess on a throne. That view hasn’t really changed, as we never actually ‘see’ other Amokolians. I’m pretty sure there are others out there… perhaps they hide.
Culture… does anyone actually know the culture/theme? I’m not sure there is one. I know they had a few court trials and that they’re a kingdom, but apart from that, even though I said earlier its culture was a prominent feature, its not expressed all that often. In fact, I remember someone saying how they were the ‘turd’ of Micras… that was probably Jeremy… but seems as that’s the best thing he could think of it… I think Jess, or one of his hiding friends, needs to get on with making their mark on Micras, so they can be remembered for something more.
Recently, Amokolia decided to add their name to the list of the many smaller nations that Ocia has ‘engulfed’. As many Ocian plans go, Amokolia was given a sub-board with their name on it and little else. When Ocia got into their sticky mess with the rest of the Micras world, Amokolia naturally wanted out… which was a vital part of the whole ‘Ocia-Ashkenatza-Babkha’ triangle that we all happily laughed at/felt very serious about. It was quite entertaining to imagine it as Jess signing “let my people go†with Matt and Kolya standing by him, one in Egyptian outfit and one with a Russian coat yelling ‘no’ back at him. Or… maybe that’s just me.
Even though it’s had a fair bit of bad press in the past… I think this country could get somewhere. All they need to do is pull their trousers up a little, get a few more citizens and I think they can use this new ‘good press’ as a starting point to pull themselves into a new tomorrow. Jess, however very prominent, is obviously dedicated to his nation and I think he could do well with the right support. I think it’d be a shame to lose Amokolia now… as they have a lot to give but not many to give it.

Re: Description: Country
Do a bit more research and asking-around, and you might have a decent little project in the works...
Re: Description: Country
.. yeah.. I like this kind of thing. Everyone secretly likes their nation being spoken about, or getting feedback, even if they're too proud to ask for it. This didn't take me too long to write, so I should really go out and do some research on the countries before I start.. seems as what I've got already is mainly from memory and a quick glance at the boards .. but, glad for the quick response, craitman

Re: Description: Country
Yeah, because you could possibly offend a nation with what you say about them if it's untrue/unresearched or have someone misinterpret what you mean. For example, just a simple check on Amokolia's website would have allowed you to discover their culture base is that of mixed French and Dutch influencesArtz wrote:so I should really go out and do some research on the countries before I start.. seems as what I've got already is mainly from memory and a quick glance at the boards
And, again, it's Craitland. No "e"
Re: Description: Country
well, if anyone takes offence, they can point it out. Sometimes I just go off a bit, or word things in the wrong way. So, if they disagree.. all the best to show iff what I couldn't personally see (which adfvertises what other people may not have seen.. not everyone reads boards really carefully).. and we get to know more about each others countries..

Re: Description: Country
Yes, check our website for recent cultural additions and such. We have several different provinces and cantons (check those pages) and a language based on French and Dutch.

Re: Description: Country
Your writing doesn't give (me) an impression of neutrality - it seems that you have merely skimmed information regarding some of the subjects you address, as oppossed to throughly analysing it.
That's not saying that I don't like it, though. Somebody finally takes initiative to actually enlighten the masses, instead of merely brainwashing them.

Re: Description: Country
Well.. I'm not looking for neutrality.. seems as its my findings and generally gathered opinions Though.. seems as Jess is not stating things out to me.. it also gives me a chance to get to know countries
That.. and.. that only took me about 10 mins to kill some time.. its not a strict analysis, either. I don't really know what it is.. I can do better if I try
