The Organization of Active Micronations
Well after doing some micronational link hopping, I found a forum I hadn't seen since the early days of Cerulea, the OAM. The OAM, as the topic of this thread says, is the Organization of Active Micronations. And just as its name suggests, it is a sort of UN for active micronations. They seem like a good bunch of people, they are very open to us forum based nations (infact, Stormark is a member and Normark will be one too, soon hopefully). Perhaps both organizations, the MCS and the OAM, can benefit from an outreach program from us? Normark has already opened formal relations with Nemkhavia and A1. I'd like to see these nations on the MCS and more Micras nations participating with their member nations.

Been there before and it went off topic quickly. They see it as their community and think Micras is "too serious". It's false. I wish you the best of luck.

Natopia joined too, and the culture of each community is quite different. I thought it would be a good way to get some new blood, but then I just kinda gave up - integration is hard.

I didn't detect that at all. I think it has changed quite a bit since then.Lewis wrote:Been there before and it went off topic quickly. They see it as their community and think Micras is "too serious". It's false. I wish you the best of luck.

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
Really, the MCS /can/ be quite serious at times. I see their point, at least. Its not overly serious, but there aren't as many random off topic chats anymore. Maybe a reason why some nations are planning on having their own 'joint forum' type thing of which a similar 'get together' concept that could have possibly been translated over to the MCS, but hasn't. MCS used to be much more active than it is now.. and its quite a shame that its lost its activity pattern. But no-one really knows how to improve it...
Integrating is difficult.. different people like different things and all.Nathan wrote:Natopia joined too, and the culture of each community is quite different. I thought it would be a good way to get some new blood, but then I just kinda gave up - integration is hard.

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
They have a bit of a serious air about themselves as well. They must not find us to be too serious as Stormark, a large Micran nation is a member. Like I said, it has been a while and times have changed. Though I am not suggesting integration, I said outreach, as in having OAM members (it is a UN, there is no "OAM members are bound forever to the OAM forums and policies") claim on Micras and such.

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
I went in there once to sort of represent Shireroth, except I got bored and probably just made us seem worse (from their perspective someone just randomly came in and was all gloaty and verbose before randomly leaving ). Anyway, yeah, actually... hey!

Time to get more gloaty and superior about the fact that we happened to be around earlier than they :p

So they have a bit of a blind spot regarding their history... but, hey, they *want* to find out where the wiki came from, they just hadn't quite gotten around to asking someone who actually knew the answer yet :p.

Actually the whole point is to bring some of the nations that hang out there onto the MCS map, not to see who's testicles have more girth and smaller distance between the ankles and the scrotum.

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
Yeah, I know . But here's the problem: They do thrice the micronational stuff we do, they have actual enthusiasm in projects that we decided to never try again after early failures, they even have some actual debate going on on the forum. What the hell do you do about something like that? There's two ways you can present yourself to them, you can either meekly say "hi" and go stand in the corner or you can go "neener, neener, your existence belongs to us because we happened to put stuff on the MicroWiki before you put stuff on the MicroWiki!" That's right, bring out the trumpets, it's time to be a big snooty old school micronationalist, maybe I'll get compared to Tallini and I'll at least feel ok about that :p

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
OR, you could say "Hi" and participate. I've managed to get two full treaties out of it. Perhaps I have a different mentality, but diving right in seems the be the best coarse there. Everybody there is pretty much like here to a degree. There are 2-3 people that are here that also go there and they function just fine. I think introducing ourselves mainly as a cartographic society above everything else would be a much better idea.

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
I thought we were trying to avoid the whole 'we are a cartography society' and focus more on the hub aspect?

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
For the purpose of injecting our name into a foreign environment, it would be best to focus on the MCS's primary function, a Micronational Cartography Society . I find it a bit silly to expect the nations that come to our map to use exclusively our forum for relations. They can use either, can they not? Even if they come here just to put their nation on the map, that is a victory. Perhaps in time they will participate out of the natural flow of things. By introducing ourselves as an omni-tool I think we're putting our cart before our horses. Essentially lets just take the first step of getting some new nations on the map. Over time, if something interests them, they will post here. This clause of "we won't like you unless you use us as a hub, also" is another way of making them think we're "too serious" or some silliness like that.
I tell you what, with Craitman's blessing, I will facilitate relations between the OAM and the MCS. I've managed to get my foot in the door, so perhaps hearing it from me, they may be more receptive.
