Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
I think we had some interest from a few OAM nations about joining the MCS and acquiring land a while ago, but as far as I know, nothing ever came of that.

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
Out of interest, how do OAM nations that aren't on the MCS or secessionist deal with land? Do they just do their own maps, or ignore city development type stuff?

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
Well there are very few micronations fitting into that category, if any. There may be a few on MicroWiki who do that, but I don't think we have any non-MCS OAM members dealing with that sort of land. There are a few who'd be willing to try though I reckon

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
The MCS is an extra-simulationary organisation (that is to say, it doesn't have a genuine existence in the eyes of the government of the states on Micras). Presumably the OAM, like the UN, does have a genuine existence in the eyes of its members?

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
Certainly There are a few people who do not regard it as purposeful, and that is solved quite easily - they don't join However, even amongst OAM members, there are a few sceptics. The recent results of an A1 News Service survey may help with understanding some of the attitudes of the OAM and the MicroWiki Community: http://fra1.net/forum/showthread.php?ti ... 174#pid174
Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
Every time I hear the name of the OAM, I feel compelled to start an Organization of Inactive Micronations, where members join up and then promptly do nothing. It would be as successful as it would be pointless. For a YAMO, one out of two ain't bad!
Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
I think the most obvious question now is -
Will the OAM work with the MCS as two functioning organizations for the better of the community? I'd like to see an MCS outreach office at the OAM and an OAM outreach office here. What will they accomplish? A lot, if done properly. Needless to say, all this talk is only going to get us so far, now we're in an action phase. Now is when we need to make these offices and begin active planning and cooperation between the MCS and the OAM.
What will each office do? The OAM office here will work to make more people aware of the OAM, its member nations and serve to give OAM members on the MCS map a place to congregate. The MCS office there will serve to do the same on the OAM forums, bringing OAM prospects and current members into the fold here as well.
What will all of this accomplish? Hopefully a more unified hobby. MCS and OAM members participating as Micronationalists, not as members of two separate communities or cliques.
When should we do all of this? Right now! Right now because the longer we sit here talking about it, the more drawn out the process is, boring our OAM friends. We have to show we're as enthusiastic as they are about things if this is going to work. Just sitting here, eternally planning will be just that, eternally planning and not implementing. And that, I think, is a major problem in this realm of the hobby. Too much planning and theorizing and not enough practical implementation of what ideas we DO have. We spend so much time trying to make NEW plans all the time, we've forgotten about old ones that are probably more innovative than the new ones.
THUS - I submit to the powers that be, we set up an OAM subforum somewhere so that they can do business, and they will hopefully reciprocate and create an MCS subforum somewhere on their boards. Lets get this done, I am tired of planning and debating.

I think this thread is moving even faster than that! Though we probably should mention it to the OAM...!

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
I can tell you that we're ready as ever for action too
The discussions that you're having about the fundamentals of the MCS/the whole 'micronational hub' thing is really quite interesting, even for an outsider like myself. I can only say that the MCS was already very well known and well respected in the MW Community even before A1 entered into it, around August 2009. I think you'll find that a lot more micronationalists know about the MCS than you might think
Anyway, for the OAM to do anything will require a resolution to be passed by The Council. Given the overwhelming support for Resolution 99, passed only last month, I'm very confident that such a resolution would pass easily.
Also, during our last election campaign, a number of candidates made pledges towards greater co-operation between the OAM and the MCS (and LoSS). We didn't really come up with many ideas beyond appointing respective envoys for both organisations or a merger between the LoSS and OAM (in my opinion quite out of the question ). I'm willing to propose the resolution once we come up with something meaningful and concrete

Quite possibly I still don't know what my Skype ID is exactly, but if it has an Australian flag next to it and has a fish as its display picture then it's me.

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
Salutations and greetings!
I'm Aldrich Lucas, the Grand Chancellor of the Students' Isocratic Oligarchy of Yabloko, an admin on MicroWiki and a former Secretary within the OAM. A couple of things if I may (okay, maybe a few more points than just two)...
1. It's the "Organisation of Active Micronations". 'S' not 'Z', the founder was an Aussie (incidentally so am I).
2. Philip's Skype account is philip_fish and mine is YablokoOnSkype (feel free to add me).
3. I don't know of any of us who consider Micras "too serious". If anything, some think that you're crude as you're purely simulationist in nature, as opposed to territorial (you know what I mean).
4. @Lewis, what's false? Us or our opinion of you?
5. You should really get a name for your forums. Or if you consider the current one a "name", change it. Because as an outsider, I can hardly say it's appealing.
6. I've noticed that all this integration-talk (call it what you will) is mainly one-way - you all want us to make a claim on Micras but none of you are willing to make a claim on Earth.
7. What's with all this "hub" talk?
And now to joining Micras.

So hopefully, I'll get a bit of land soon enough and will be involved in this community as well.Yours truly on the OAM Forums wrote:I was going to register a claim in Micras during last holidays (Australian ones) but got bogged down in choosing where to go and passing a Bill in Parliament to allow me to create administrative divisions (known as Areas). Said bill has been passed but next thing I knew, school was upon me and I haven't thought about it since. Now that final exams are all over though, I'll be happy to reconsider it and stake my claim in a small bit of land soon.

Re: The Organization of Active Micronations
Yay I now know my Skype ID
Also, a motion has just been put forward in A1 Parliament to submit an application to the MCS for a land claim.
