This is the game thread for Extreme Countdown. The rules are simple, you get the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, and may combine them using any standard functions to reach the target number. You may only use each number once, although you don't have to use all the numbers.

For example, to make a target of 1,000,000, you would do (5x2)^6, completing the puzzle with three spare numbers.

Scoring will be worked out as follows:
Within 5% of the target number - 1 point
Within 3% - 2 points
Within 2% - 3 points
Within 1% - 5 points
Within 0.5% - 7 points
Spot on - 10 points

Two bonus points are awarded for each number left unused, if you successfully reach the target number.

The first target number is 123,456.

I'll post my best solution in a few days time :)

And what is considered a standard function? Only +, -, *, /, square root and power of a number? Or something else like trigonometric or logaritmic functions and factorial can also be used?

(BTW. My answer is 4^6 * 2 * 3 * 5 = 122880, difference is 0,47%; also in form of 4^(2*3) * 5 * 6 or 2 ^ (4*3) * 5 * 6)

Logs, exponentials, trig functions, factorials... All allowed, anything that can be performed on the average scientific calculator.
