Off-Topic Cartography

Though it doesn't relate to micronations at all, I've been working on an intensive cartography project I thought you'd all be interested in seeing.

I'm a member of the SCA and the Kingdom I live in, Calontir, has an awful map. So I fixed it. Well, the zip codes I used to make the territories is outdated, but it will be simple enough to change borders as soon as I get updated ones. Whoo!

Interesting! It's certainly vibrant. This isn't micronational?

Nope, it's the SCA. Specifically the Kingdom of Calontir.

Nice map!

The SCA has some stuff out here on the east coast IIRC. Aren't they mainly a LARP group?

Nope, historical reenactment. There's no story, or adventure, or dungeon master. There are wars, and fighting, but it's primarily about accurately portraying the chosen medieval time period.

How does one reenact a fictional setting? And I'm not being snide, I'm sincerely curious. To reenact suggests repeating (albeit minus the bloodshed) historical battles, events, etc, that have already occurred. Do you work off of a script or something? Or is it more like an impromptu renfaire?

I suppose I misspoke, because as you put it it's not historical reenactment.

I double checked the wikipedia article on it, and it more aptly describes it as Living History.

We don't recreate anything specific except for the ambiance of the high medieval era. The majority of the time is spent on the local level, perfecting one's craft, creating garb, practicing fighting, etc. There are events from things as small as Shire based Feasts / get togethers to things as large as the three week long camping event that attracts tens of thousands who pitch period tents and take the field in large scale battles.

The Kingdoms and such are based off of geography, but the King of each Kingdom is chosen by right of combat at a bi annual tournament and they have some authority over by laws and such. The majority of the administrative stuff is done by volunteers.
