Re: Margaret Thatcher dies of stroke aged 87
Quite sad I just finished reading a book about her actually...
Re: Margaret Thatcher dies of stroke aged 87
I'm tempted to write something about this, but I must firstly admit that I have a strong feeling against her... to be completely honest, it is not about my nationality, for I believe that the military government in Argentina those dark days made a big mistake declaring war (that's the moment when they lost the war, without shooting a single projectile), but, on the other hand, I still believe there were some War Crimes, for example, the Belgrano Cruiser was sunk outside the 200-nautical-mile (370 km) total exclusion zone around the Malvinas-Falklands, delimitated by the UK....
Ideologically, I say that I couldn't disagree more with her... Thatcher and Reagan promoted the same reforms: a constant reduction of the social welfare, a strong orientation towards the Market against the State, restrictions to the activities in the Public Sector... in other words, their way towards Neoliberal reforms set a point of view to an era, when the Communism was dying and the Capitalism was growing stronger and stronger. Not that I'm a Commie, but I still believe in the Social Welfare promoted by the State... for both Thatcher and Reagan, the State was not a solution but a problem.
Anyway, ideologies away, RIP to the human being...

I must say I agree in everything with you, J (except that I've never had any strong feelings against her, despite my macronational nationality).

Am a staunch Labour man but I don't wish death upon anyone. We all make our choices and all you can do is judge whether they thought they were doing the right thing. I'm pretty sure she thought that and so don't think she is evil. I just thought she was wrong. Hope her family are well though
