Resignation
The world is changed. I feel it in the water...
In light of my recent personal announcement on the Micras Discord server on Friday, which I am certain the vast majority of the community has now seen, I would like to tender my resignation as Administrator-General of the MCS. In the last few years, I have found myself with less and less free time in which to give my all to the role, and with many large changes expected in my life before the end of this year I can only see that becoming more of the case.
This decision is not without much forethought, and the idea of handing over the reins has crossed my mind on more than one occasion this past year due to particular situations that have arisen. The most recent of these led me to the mindset that the next time I even considered leaving this position I would go through with it - only I never expected the trigger for this to be such life-changing news nor so soon. However, as a bit of a sucker for threshold sentimentality, I felt it only right that I wait until I had hit 5,000 days as Administrator-General, which I only noticed I was so close to achieving after a little inquisitive check at the weekend, before calling time.
So that leads me to today and the end of my administration. When having this role thrust upon me by my predecessor Pete - completely unexpectedly; I'm sure Spangle would have made so much more sense at the time! - I had no idea what would follow, but to head the Council for over 13 years is certainly nothing I could have ever expected. I have held this position through college, university, many exams, multiple relocations and quite a number of "real" jobs that actually remunerate me for my efforts, even if they never truly match the fun doing this for free has offered. This has become one of the biggest parts of my life for well over a decade. It has been a pleasure and an honour (and an utter chore on many fleeting occasions, of course) to oversee this community's flagship entity, and I would like to extend my gratitude to the plethora of fellow Council members alongside whom I have worked during a period which totals literally over a third of my lifetime.
While the MCS's Charter doesn't specify any particular succession rules, I think it more than fitting to hand control over to Joe. Joe has himself in the last month passed a significant landmark, having now been involved with the Council in one role or another for ten years, and his passion for ensuring the Charter is better-written and improved to eliminate any misinterpretations has been a driving force in what we have done with the MCS in recent times. I feel his enthusiasm on these matters, coupled with his claimsmap-updating abilities as exhibited with the blank version that was previously released alongside the traditional map style, make him an easily suitable individual to take the helm going forward.
Now, of course I have no intentions to leave Micras for good, but my participation here is very much expected to be diminished and of all the places to start with easing the responsibilities, the MCS just feels the right one for me. I shall admit now that I do intend to step down from my position within the FMF as its President later this year too, though I think I can manage to at least get the World Cup out the way under my auspices first, which would then give my successor a fresh new 2023-24 season to oversee from the very start afterwards. If the community will have me, I would be happy to retain MicrasWiki administrator powers as I can still contribute with more general things, such as moving pages and deleting stuff that is best removed, when I can. Categorising is cathartic, alright?
As I hand over to Joe with my final acts as Administrator-General, I can happily say I do so with no outstanding claims needing votes, following two approved stampings on my last day, and I've even squeezed in a final ActivityCheck update before I can avoid feeling like I have to do one ever again. Use it and continue it as much as you like or need, Joe, or ignore it entirely - I'm not your boss anymore. Additionally, I have already made sure Joe has been given all the relevant forum permissions as its new admin, as well as wiki privileges too, complementing his new role. I wish him the best!
So long, and thanks for all the claims,
Craitman

Incredible stint for these last 13 years, Craitman. I'm so very proud of you. Thank you. Eternally grateful to you for your work and unrivalled talent. You've been an asset to our community in your work as Admin General, and no doubted will continue to be in the future.
