Re: Council's new look
The Bassarids do not endorse the current council. As was discussed in discord, I appreciate the council's willingness to discuss changes and adapt to the times. The ongoing charter discussions are a step in the right direction, and again, I really appreciate the council's willingness to re-visit my last claim after having initially rejected it. With that said, the council's recent decision to accept Jack as junior Councillor - one day after he rage-quit once again, and without any true basis, argument, or merit, is a significant step in the wrong direction, which expands the council's exclusivity, and which reeks of nepotism. When you consider the arguments which Shiro made in his campaign in contrast to the statements made by Jack, there is a clear favorite, and a clearly more qualified and engaged candidate, and the council chose incorrectly. This decision by the council significantly negates its other progress, and I therefore cannot provide my endorsement.
Edit: To clarify my position, my problem isn't with Jack being on the council. It is with the way in which he was accepted. The council had two candidates. One of them - a person who also met the called for criteria of being a relative newcomer - provided a lengthy, thoughtful, and quality explanation as to why they should be considered for the position. The other, who had actually "quit" the community only the day before, evidently couldn't be bothered to provide much thought or detail at all, even setting aside the possibility that at least one of the "points" was made in bad faith. If you look strictly at the applications themselves, discounting the names and faces behind them, there is a clearly better option. One application clearly deserves to be favored over the other. And yet, the council voted in favor of the objectively worse application. If you question why they would choose the objectively worse application, you have to conclude that the council played personal favorites here in a way which isn't really acceptable.
It's also worth pointing out that for his part, Edgard chose not to apply on the basis that he also thought it should go to a relative newcomer. Now, I'm far from an advocate of Ed's, but what happens if you throw him into the mix? Suddenly the candidate who won actually ends up in third place. What does this say about this council's selection?

Re: Council's new look
For the above reasons, I'll choose to ABSTAIN from voting, because I'd otherwise have a conflict of interest in the matter.

I voted for Jack, even though we have our often violent differences. Nothing is ever objective, as you try to make things out to be, and an application isn't everything since it can never be divorce from the person that wrote it. The council also works closely together and I feel I can work better with Jack than with Shiro.

Re: Council's new look
If nothing is ever objective, then is every subjective interpretation valid? Of course not! It is the position of the Bassarids and the Bassarid Periphery that your subjective interpretation of the two applications is not valid. The candidate that was selected was the worse of the two who ran, much less of those who chose not to run for frankly admirable and righteous reasons. And I believe that there are additional nations who share these views, whether they are willing to come forward to express them or not.
On a strictly personal note, I don't quite buy the idea that Jack was the more agreeable of the two candidates.

Re: Council's new look
To be quite honest, what the Bassarids think in this matter is of little significance to me. At the end of the day, I'm the one serving on the Council and I made a judgement call when I voted. It would also serve you well to recognise that difference of opinion is and always has been a thing.
Appeals to the people are logical fallacies so I'll leave that unanswered.

Re: Council's new look
On this particular opinion, the Bassarids have been invited by the council, along with the rest of the community, to cast judgement upon your opinion. And i judge your opinion as being obviously wrong.

Re: Council's new look
That's entirely within your prerogative of course, but it doesn't mean that you're right.
Re: Council's new look
I feel that I should speak up about this line: "...a person who also met the called for criteria of being a relative newcomer..."
I requested that because I liked the idea of inviting new (if perhaps under-qualified) blood into the decision making process here; it was not something so official as criteria. I must say I am disappointed that Shiro didn't get elected, but I trust the council enough to let it do it's thing. They don't play favorites. The council is made up of some fine folks (yes, even Jack) because this community is made up of enjoyable, albeit flawed, people.
