Jack's resignation

Having announced his desire to leave his Council duties here, the MCS has accepted Jack's resignation. We would like to thank him for his time on the Council and for his scrutiny when voting on claims in recent years.

As a result, Rasmus has been promoted to a full Council member, a position he last held in 2016, from Junior, and we are now looking for a new Junior to join our staff.

With there being no time like the present, applications are now open, and will remain so for the coming week; closing on Sunday September 8th.

Applicants should, in no more than 500 words, summarise why they believe they are a suitable candidate for the Junior Council member position and specify any individual skills which could come in handy for any prospective future projects.

Hello, I am applying for the position of Junior Council member today because I think I would be the right pick for the job.

Why you might be asking, well for one thing; I am quite fond of micronationalism (ive been engaged in it since 2007) and have several new ideas and innovations that I believe could contribute greatly to the MCS's ongoing success well into the future. For another thing, I am active (I spend roughly between 2-6 hours every day engaged in micronational affairs).

While I know I am realitivly new to Micras, I believe that I could bring a fresh new face (for a newer, younger generation) to micras and the greater micronational sphere as a whole.

Thank you for the consideration,

Charles Ross

Greetings! Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone for taking the time to review this. Seeing only one other person applying, I feel I may as well throw my hat in and see what the community thinks of my candidacy for the job.

I am applying for the position of Junior Council member because I believe I would fit in well with the existing team. This will give me a chance to contribute something meaningful to the MCS community outside of the rare interactions between my micronation and others here as well.

While I am very new compared with the rest of the Council, I have extensive experience in managing teams and communities of all sorts. I hope that with my presence and contributions, I can contribute (however slightly I can) to a positive direction for the community as we move into the future. I can bring extensive professional and creative writing experience to the table, having done both in various settings since 2009. Furthermore, I have extensive academic writing experience across a wide range of fields of study. (My third college degree is due for completion by this December.) I would look forward to putting my skills to good use here, if I am accepted for the position.

While I am very new to Micras specifically (only having joined about a year ago now), I've been involved in micronationalism in some form for roughly twenty years now, and have been engaged in micronational communities since 2014. In the past, I was an administrator for MicroWiki, and I dealt with all of the various... twists and turns that community offered. In a community as comparatively excellent as Micras has to offer, serving as a Junior Council member would be a breath of fresh air compared to that experience.

Thank you very much for both your consideration and support.

Best Regards,

Thomas Merrell

I'm very pleased to see two of the new members of our community apply to become part of the MCS council. I think that shows great promise for the longevity of Micras and how important this community is. I have served on the council in the past, so I am accustomed to the process. I'm also relatively old in this hobby, and I believe that can be an asset for this position. An understanding of how I've seen this hobby has grown and evolved over the past 17 years will definitely guide my voting philosophy.

I'm a firm believer in the unifying aspect of the actual map of Micras. It is the only "tangible" thing that makes this hobby feel like a living breathing, and cohesive world. While nations are free to do with their land as they please, and we've had deserts and jungles in probably the same locations as nations live and die, the map remains the same. It dictates who our allies are, it dictates who our rivals are. We have developed a fondness for the improbably weird world of Micras and as an MCS junior councilor I will use my votes to do my best to maintain the cohesiveness of the world.

I believe the nations of Micras should expand and contract naturally, as determined by their own narratives and their own merits. I would be more favorable to claims that consider the physical map and the resource map (I personally almost always consider the resource and physical maps before starting a storyline or developing a region). I am not a fan of sudden and random expansions or relocations, but I do believe in allowing nations with a solid plan to use unoccupied land. I would rather see a more populated map than a more Green map.

Many of you may know my fondness for using MS Paint for things in Natopia and all of my projects, and it remains my graphics program of choice ;) (I dip into Paint.NET when I need to rotate, resize, or make things transparent, like the banners on Natopia's forum) I think I've gotten pretty good at it, especially recently with making maps like the various maritime claims maps based off of the MTOCLOS. So I can certainly edit the map when and if needed!

Thank you for your consideration and I am happy to answer any further questions you may have.

Thank you,
Nathan Shepard

The past year has been a strange one in my life. In May I finally graduated from university after what seems like an eternity. Then I began the job search, and after many fruitless hours of attempting to find a job close to home, I finally landed a good position in a town far away. Around a month ago I moved away from the city in which I was raised, and began a new life in a city with a totally different culture and way of doing things, and a set of responsibilities unlike any I've ever really known. It has been a strange year filled with chaos and uncertainty, and the past month alone has proven to be one of the most difficult, trying times of my entire life. Despite all of the chaos over the course of the past year, with all of this said, there is one thing which has remained a fundamental constant in my life – which has indeed remained a constant since I first discovered it thirteen years ago. That thing is the MCS.

I am not a popular figure within the MCS community, although to say that much is an understatement. There is no denying that my actions within this community are the source of a considerable degree of scorn and ridicule, even among those who secretly kind of like me, though they may never openly admit it. Most nations would not welcome me into their communities with open arms. Indeed, most would actively oppose my mere approach. I have been banned from certain forums, and on forums on which I am not banned, I am ridiculed and accused. Many people here would, frankly, prefer that I left the community altogether, and take my thirteen years of work with me. And yet, I haven’t left.

Why haven’t I left? When I have no more friends here? When I am actively mocked and hated to my face, as well as behind my back? Why would I want to remain part of such a community?

The simple fact is that I regard the MCS as a project of the soul. I believe that we – as in everyone who has ever contributed to the development of any active nation – have contributed to the creation of something which is almost completely unique in essence. I believe that the world which we have collectively created over the past 20+ years is in fact a testament to humanity in all of its righteousness and evil. We have created a pure microcosm of the world in which we exist, and we should be proud of our accomplishments.

For my own part, I believe that no matter how controversial I may be, my work within the community speaks for itself. I bring to the table a breadth of experience and talent, and a depth of curiosity and excitement which is virtually unparalleled. These characteristics, and my overall passion for our work here, render me an ideal candidate for the position of councilor.

I've been in this community for coming up on six years now. It started with wanting to hone my writing skills in naive anticipation of studying game design at university which fell apart after the first year. My work and relationships in this community, however, have thusfar stood the test of time and I'm truly grateful for it. I'll admit, I've been a bit on-again off-again in the last year partially because of life stuff and partially because of plain ol' creative blockage; but I think that being a part of the MCS ranks, I'll be able to contribute in a meaningful way without feeling overwhelmed.

I like to think I keep a low profile while still giving back to the community. I'll rarely make a fuss about someone taking creative liberty with my work because I just well up with joy at seeing a little thing I helped to build grow and transform. The Kalirion Fracture, for instance, has allowed for everyone in the Benacia crowd to go wild with their own projects they had been quietly nursing with everyone else for the last decades and it's made a boomtown of what had been a place of stable tradition (with the odd revolution) and that's just terrific! That's what I think our hobby is all about. Making something we like with people we can stand to be around and warping each other's ideas into funny, horrific, and very pretty things. A few weeks of turning tradition on its head made all of the possible. If it looks like a good time for everyone and you're obeying the rules, you'll get my vote.

Something else worth mentioning is I like keeping things short if I can so I'll end by saying that whoever is chosen, good luck to you and thank you for helping out our community!

Always a good sign for the community when so many people are interested in applying for the role.

Applications are now closed. Thank you to the entire field of applicants - it truly is good to see so many apply from across the community and with all sorts of varying experience. The Council will convene shortly to decide on its new Junior, and the result will be announced once a decision has been made!

Following one of the Council's most difficult decisions in quite some time, a majority has been reached and we are proud to announce that Ryker will become our newest Junior member!

We would like to offer sincere condolences to the other, unsuccessful applicants, whose interest in the role was greatly received and made our decision considerably difficult thanks to their combined abundance of experience and knowledge. I'd like to invite them all to consider applying again the next time a vacancy in the MCS arises...

Welcome aboard, Rykey. Please proceed to the back office for the customary Junior hazing ritual.

An unparalleled level of narcisism, surely. And don't worry, you are very infrequently mentioned. Also, I may be almost tied with you when we talk about being hated by the community these days :P

That actually means a lot Jack. And just know that where there's hate, there is love. I used to love that I hated you, But now I almost hate that I love you
