Weather
As raised in the other thread regarding Secret Moves, weather can aid or detract from plans. Now, obviously, it would be silly if one person said he was fighting in brilliant sunshine and the other saying that he was fighting in muddied fields in torrential downpours in the same battle. Weather can be decisive not only for storytelling realists (my camp et al) but also storytelling narrativists (Andreas et al). For instance, in Circum Raynor I used the swell of the sea as a way of attributing damage to my own ships; a ship on the crest of a wave is more exposed to a sea skimming missile than one falling with the ocean. It also leads to atmosphere and will help in strategy and planning.
So I propose that at the beginning of the war, the parties may decide whether to ask the judge to give a weather forecast for the duration of the war. This forecast will be treated as fact and shall have to be plausible (i.e snow cannot fall in a tropical climate) and not extreme (tornadoes, hurricanes, cyclones will be out though strong storms allowed).

Re: Weather
I like the idea, but there needs to be a set time. If the war lasts for X days, the judge can't just predict how long the war will last. They would have to post a one week forecast at the beginning of each week, or something along those lines. That sounds like a much better idea than "the weather is what i say it is because it helps my strategy, and lasts as long as it is convenient".
If the war already has a set limit for time (eg: the war lasts 15 days), then a full forecast could be drawn up at the start of the war.

Re: Weather
I think weather should be left alone as is. Its hard to control it and say what it is. Further, the wars last unusually long and irregular. Some parts of the war happen at much faster rate than other parts of the war.
And you'd need a good weather person to determine what weather it is.

Re: Weather
Scott's suggestion was to use that weather widget thing he put together, and take the weather from the nearest city to you at the time.
Personally, I think weather affecting battle is just another layer of complication that probably isn't necessary.

I agree. When people start liking the current (already complicated according to some) system, then we can think about adding weather in.

Re: Weather
Great minds think alike. Monty, are you happy? Weather in a real battle can be very important but I think maybe it's a little too much. Consider the casual recwarrer who doesn't pay much attention to these debates we have- he may think it's unnecessary complication and get annoyed and stop participating.

Re: Weather
I'll admit that when written, Anunia tried to provide areas of extension to those interested (such as existing national defence). This could possibly become one such area, but it would have to be done in such a way that those who weren't interested could ignore all weather effects, positive or negative, and that might just get annoying to those who are observing weather effects.
