Future forum checks?
As anyone who cares has probably noticed already, the ForumList has not been updated for the past couple of months due to Spangle's eventual leaving of micronationalism. As Ari (who I assume has access to all the ForumList stuff) likely doesn't have enough free time to update it frequently, there'll have to be a more manual way of checking nations' activity from now on.
Fortunately, I've got all the (possible) forced removals up to January listed, so there's no real problem for the rest of the year. However, after that will be when activity will need to be checked sans-ForumList. What I'm currently thinking of doing to rectify this is to take note of all nations' total forum post counts on January 1st and then do manual monthly checks thereafter. I won't be able to make a public site like the ForumList to display the data, but it will mean the MCS can keep-up with inactivity for any future removals/reductions
If anyone can think of, or suggest, any better methods - preferably automatic ones! - to do the monthly post counts, that'd be very helpful. Otherwise, are any complaints towards my proposal for checking activity for, at least, the MCS's purposes?

Didn't Spangle have a bot to do it with?

That's the problem, I have absolutely no idea. But if he did, would it still not have done automatic updates over the past couple of months anyway?

Re: Future forum checks?
As I've said, the Institute for Micronational Statistics (IMS) of the Free University of Flanders (VUV), has begun recording post counts in the Dutch sector. I've also suggested of dividing the work for the entire planet between the universities of several nations: approximately one for every continent, recording the post count on their own continent. Just to make it so that the entire job doesn't fall upon just one person's shoulders.
I'm fine with whatever solution, though. I certainly won't stop anyone from doing it all by himself

Re: Future forum checks?
Well, at the start of every month I pretty much went around all member nations' forums/wikis/websites anyway when checking activity, so it won't really give me much more work than I did of my own accord. Anyone else who's willing to lend a hand will, of course, be gratefully received though

Well, he had one, but it was manually initiated. Like, someone had to push the button.CJ Miller wrote:Didn't Spangle have a bot to do it with?

Re: Future forum checks?
No problem. I've been checking the Dutch sector's forums on the 3rd of each month (or rather: I've been publishing the post count of the 3rd of each month on the 4th of each month), just because Spangle made his last update on the 3rd of October. But I could change this to the 1st of every month, though. (There's also a slight discontinuity between mine and Spangle's numbers, because he included Zeeburg's numbers in the Southbatavian ones and I don't.)Craitman wrote:Well, at the start of every month I pretty much went around all member nations' forums/wikis/websites anyway when checking activity, so it won't really give me much more work than I did of my own accord. Re: Future forum checks?
If you could switch it back to the 1st, that'd fit-in nicely. Although if you miss new year's day, I won't mind
Don't worry about that. I'll be making my own counts (so will make allowance for situations like Zeeburg's) as I'll only have what's on nations' current forums, rather than the total of all past forums like Spangle's had

Well, I guess the data for January 1st won't be as precise as those for December and November

Re: Future forum checks?
S'alright, the last couple on the ForumList were skewed 'cause of the extra days added. It'll level-out in the long run

Re: Future forum checks?
It was all right on the forumlist 'cause Spangle's bot calculated days since last check, and then got the PPD. So you'd probably want some Excel formula to do it for you (like, (B3)=B2/$A$7 where B1 is first nation's last month's post count and A7 is where days since last check are).

Re: Future forum checks?
That's effectively what I was going to do anyway, just sans-formula
Re: Future forum checks?
Please shut up. You are only doing the nations you like. You started doing Jingdao but then you dropped it after a Batavian Post article criticized you. Whatever the solution will be you can't be part of it because you will skew the data.Erwin V.H. wrote:As I've said, the Institute for Micronational Statistics (IMS) of the Free University of Flanders (VUV), has begun recording post counts in the Dutch sector.
