Why don't I like the idea of the culture council?
Well... two reasons, mainly.
It seems presumptuous to me to assign nations a numeric "culture rating". Culture is simply so much more than the sum of discrete, submittable artistic works. For instance, while Babkha does have plenty of submittable works, they hardly capture the unique sense of humour that you can find in almost any thread in Babkha. Shireroth has, over its long history, lost many of its defining works. Every Shirithian can describe Hallucination to you but nobody can point you to it because so many posts about it were lost in the ezHack. Naudia'Diva once had a complex magic system, one which we still pay reverence to, but only fragments of it survive after the ShireWiki crash. In macronations, knowledge like this - things that are lost, but not forgotten - would be considered some of the most valuable culture.
I am afraid that the council will, by nature, attract a lot of flames. I am not concerned about the rating you might give to Shireroth; I might go ahead and upload Mogbeth and Unaimed Arrow (thank you, Scott) to see what kind of ratings you give them, but I feel secure enough in Shirerithian culture that I wouldn't be bothered by a low rating. Other micronationalists, however... I expect there will be flame-filled "debates" about whether the council should consider the effort that went into creating a piece or the quality of the end result, and how much the number of pages in a book should affect its cultural rating, and whether posts without fictional content can be given ratings, and whether some work is a masterpiece or complete dreck, or... the flamewars over land on the MCS map would have *nothing* on the wars that measuring culture would raise.
I'm going to be watching with interest, and if it all works out after all, hopefully submitting Shirithian works regularly...

Ari, I agree with many of those sentiments, they are valid points, I still think, however it would be interesting to see people's MCRs and pieces of their culture they have shared with the community, it will help us learn more about each other?
There probably will be rows, yes, but if you're immature enough to argue about a number assigned to you, you should probably not be here. (you probably belong on Giess. lol)
