*calms down, does the "Turning Shadows Into Rain", and puts on the Hyperborean Priest of Beauty sigil for a moment*
The thing is, when it's done right, recwar is supposed to be a spur to cultural development. I've written more about the Hyperboreans in the past week than in the last three months. The first recwar ever, the War of the Orchids between Treesia and Babkha, led to various stories, an epic poem, and a brilliant cross-fertilization of Treesian and Babkhan culture that lasted for three whole years.
By consensually entering into a war, Bosworth and Shireroth were electing to have a joint culture-building exercise. Unfortunately, in this war that hasn't worked so well. Aside from King Josephus' noble attempts, all of the culture-building has been on the Allied (Shireroth/Antica/Batavia) side, while the Anglish side mostly just complains about stuff. That means we've had to develop culture for you guys too. You have to admit we've done more with St. Jean in a week than you have in several months. Now we're culturally-invested in it. If the recwar had been done right, we'd all have equal cultural investments and we'd be able to settle some peace treaty that sets them all to right. Since the war has been conducted...unequally, the cultural investments are unequal and we've ended up with a hasty peace treaty that ignores the considerable cultural work that many people in this recwar have been doing just to make it stop.
I am not trying to disrupt the cultural development of Bosworth (which you guys can start holding at any point, if you ever want to, regardless of what's happening on this forum). But I am trying to bring to a successful conclusion the large amounts of cultural development that me, Ardashir, Andreas, Chris, and others have been doing with our respective forces, which develops Shireroth, Antica, and Bosworth alike.
If what you really want is the cultural development of Bosworth, create a Bosworthian character, encourage others to do the same, bring them to St. Jean, and affect whatever ends up happening there in a uniquely Bosworthian way. Then everyone's culture will develop alike, and we can all settle the St. Jean crisis in a way that appeals to all of our cultural sensibilities.
I guess it all does come down to cultural development, doesn't it?all my actions here are working towards getting all foreign forces out of Bosworthian territory so we can carry on developing our nation without some random people rambling on about occupation zones when we try and develop the national culture.

I haven't exactly had time to invest in cultural developments of islands in my Duchy in the last few weeks given much of the time i've had to spare has been invested in trying to get enemy forces off of our land, although you might notice i wrote a redevelopment project for the most effected city not long ago. I could quite happily write a 4,000 word backstory about Isle St Jean and it's history but we aren't all blessed with frequent days off to invest such things and so the periods inbetween study and work which i possess, such as this once which will end in me going to work shortly, must be spent argueing randomly here to prevent the cultural mauling of our island. Last time i read one of your longer posts you were building some sort of massice temple on the Island, not exactly culturally relivant to an Isle based on 16th Century France, is it?
If someone cares to post a summary of what's currently going on in Isle St Jean, so i know what's going on without reading 19 pages of posts, i'm sure i could spare the period between work and sleep for creating some sort of charcter to dump on the island.

That would be why the posts have summaries. If someone cares to post a summary of what's currently going on in Isle St Jean, so i know what's going on without reading 19 pages of posts, i'm sure i could spare the period between work and sleep for creating some sort of charcter to dump on the island.

maybe its not all about your crazed mango-worshiping culture. maybe some people want a strategic, sensible war.
clearly, both sides have an inability to see, let alone understand, the opposition (as evidenced at the start of my post ). it is for this reason that i suggest the war is finished as soon as possible, however unrealistically, before the cracks that are opening in society are forced any larger. the war is not advancing anything.

The Shirerithian occupation will have ended by the First of July, however after that strike I would say that the Batavians would be entitled to extend their occupation indefinetely.
The war is advancing the cracks in society and making them grow larger, and as a realistic process this trend should be encouraged and allowed to continue. There is no true realisation of identity without division and opposition...i suggest the war is finished as soon as possible, however unrealistically, before the cracks that are opening in society are forced any larger. the war is not advancing anything.

Scott, either you're deliberately trying to wind the opposition up or you're being a bit silly. You have no right to reasonably expect that just because you wrote of a culture in a certain place that it should exist.
Now if that's the only thing that's still going on here and the war is over I'll shut this thread unless anyone has any reasonable (emphasis on reasonable there chaps) objections.

Withdrawing is hardly part of the conflict, particularly because it doesn't even require you to post anything.
Had Batavia shown any sign of ending the conflict the strike wouldn't of occured, but should such signs appear now then further conflict can easily be avoided. And Montague, did you not notice that we're waiting for your judgement on a cruise missle strike?

Look, Batavie is not a puppet state of Shireroth - neither is Interland. While they're allies and we can suggest they negotiate their own peace, we can't do it for them, and it's stupid to expect that just because Shireroth is pulling out, everyone else will. However, there are ways to get people to leave that ...
Oh forget it. Who am I to give the Bosworthians advice on foreign policy that might not make them look terrible internationally? After all, they're the ones who came up with "Two big military nations are getting ready to recwar over an island the other side of the world from us. Let's stand in the middle and see if they stop."
Jeremy, if they are contacting Wentworth instead of you, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest - he looks like he might be capable of negotiating ... Withdrawing is and always has been part of the conflict in any sort of proper war. I appreciate we're not technically under a charter, and so peace treaties can not be forced on people - but the fact that we've been acting as if we are makes it all the more likely that the last few states are only going to leave because they get a peace treaty, not because somebody bombs them, which is hard to interpret as aught else but a reason for retaliation.
Jonas, do try and end this if you can, is my suggestion as a friend. Wentworth might be able to negotiate - if not, does Joe have some connection to the nation through Richard? King Joe's a reasonable chap. Peace treaties are relatively standard things, shouldn't be too hard to whip up. Apologies to you from the Anglophone Sector of micronationalism that the first war the Dutch sector has joined for years was such a pathetic one ...

Summary: Nova English peace finally signed. Last of the Atterockian troops return home. Mel'Kat asks Richard to try and negotiate peace with the Batavians.Mel'Kat excitedly ran through the base to find Richard. "It passed through the Landsraad!" he said excitedly. "We are officially at peace."Peace Treaty of Gascony
Between the Kingdom of Nova England and the Imperial Republic of Shireroth
RECOGNISING that the conflict we found ourselves in was unnecessary; and
DESIRING its cessation with minimal further loss of life; also
SEEKING the government of Bosworth in a manner that allows the original citizens to lead while ensuring no danger to the Imperial Republic, we, the undersigned, do resolve the following:
The immediate cessation of all hostilities between Nova England and Shireroth.
The return of all Nova English POWs to Nova English hands.
The withdrawal of all Nova English troops from the war, with the exception of a battallion to guard the fiefdom of Lord Richard.
The recognition of the fiefdom of Lord Richard as the first official nobility of the new state of Bosworth, entitled to its own defence, and willing to work with the Shirithian occupiers.
And putting pressure on our various allies to continue the cessation of hostilities so that a reasonable end to the war may be found for all, bearing in mind the relative positions of each ally in the combat at the time of signing.
Signed:
Mel'Kat (Andreas the Wise) - Commander of the Atterockian Forces
Ricgard (King Jospehus) - Commander of the Nova English Forces
Richard smiled. "My men?"
"Released them on my way here," Mel'Kat replied. "We'd been planning this for days, after all, and the bulk of the navy has already returned to Raynor Isles to assist the Baron. With this done, finally, I can leave."
"And with the Shirithian accord sorted, Gascony is at peace too," Richard said. "Everybody wins."
"Almost," Mel'Kat replied. "Batavie are waiting for someone to ask them politely to leave, as is standard international protocol. Someone from the Capital decided to bomb their Capital. If you don't want Batavian occupation of the south of Gascony indefinitely (because who in their right mind would leave a region that doesn't have a peace treaty with them who casually bombs their capital without even making the slightest attempt at negotiation first?), I suggest you use your authority as first free Gason Lord to negotiate a peace treaty ASAP."
"I'll be on it," Richard replied.
There was a pause, then Mel'Kat stuck out his hand. "It was an honour fighting against you."
Richard put out his hand and shook Mel'KAt's thoroughly. "It's always an honour fighting the troops of your Baron."
Then, moment of peace over, Mel'Kat took his remaining troops to head home. Little did he know the excitement there would be when he got back ...

OOC: Let no one say i haven't asked nicely.Attention Batavia. The Royal Armed forces of Bosworth request the immediate withdrawal of all Batavian forces from the Duchy of Gascony as continued unprovoked occupation of sovereign territory is an insurmountable obstacle to any peace between our two nations now or in the future. Therefore the Ducal Government call for the immediate withdrawal of your forces to allow a mutually beneficial peace settlement to be agreed upon. Should Batavian forces still be present in Gascony when the Royal Armed Forces return on July 1st there are substantial grounds for the needless prolongation of an already futile conflict and therefore it would be desirable for any such occurrence to be avoided via the withdrawal of invasion forces.
Yours earnestly,
Duke Jeremy of Gascony
