Micronations.net is dead

A kingdom which, I hasten to add, neither has August of Gotzborg nor John Darcy of Anthelia, and whose forums are hosted on the very site which will soon be closed down!and novasolum, the natural successor to anthelia and gotzborg
Also, if Liam Sinclair can't be an admin of MNN what's to say he'll bother with his micronation?

Uh ... John Darcy is the founder and King of Novasolum; I'm merely his Chancellor (well, until this Friday when my resignation from that position kicks in).A kingdom which, I hasten to add, neither has August of Gotzborg nor John Darcy of Anthelia, and whose forums are hosted on the very site which will soon be closed down!

Well, I'm willing to host anything.
If you take a look at http://micronow.bmsprint.com/ (I can't afford to buy another domain name at this point) you'll see a blank Drupal installation. It lets you have a blog as you see, as well as a Feed Aggregator. THe function is that people permitted to can post posts only on the site on the front page while the Feed aggregator serves like MNN (the aggregator) did. You can add the main feed to the aggregator. You can also take the most updated news sources and put links to each article on the side of every page on the site. You can comment on the posts in the MicroNow blog with an account. Drupal also has a nice forum software. It's not nearly as feature-rich as phpBB or SMF but that can be a blessing or a curse and it lets you use the same login.
I planned to operate it myself but if people are taking serious interest in it, the thing could be a group effort. Of course I can host a wiki too, but that wouldn't have the same user database obviously.
I'm definately going to do the feed and the blog if nothing else. I just want to extend the offer, I'm willing to make it very democratic and have the forum too if people want.
The one question I will ultimately have is does anyone have the most recent list of newsblogs covered in MNN?
I'm working on figuring out how you could add it (the feed) to another site but it will take some time. As far as hosting MCS/GSO, it's up to you. I won't interfere, and you can make a backup of the whole site using any means you wish so you can hold me to it.

The Kingdom of Novasolum is hosted in the same place as MNN, so its online presence is about to disappear. Nevertheless, the Kingdom itself is perpetual - I am the King, and I will be the King for many years to come.Maximos wrote:Wow... I stand corrected thenUh ... But seriously Liam, do you see Novasolum still living on for another year or so?
As much as we put work into the website and forums, those things can also be a lodestone. The essence of a Kingdom is loyalty to the monarch and to the concept of the nation itself, and even in the absence of a forum and website there will still be 18 people who hold citizenship, and five people with titles of nobility, and a bunch of people with honours granted by me whose past support and contributions will not be forgotten.
Somewhere, in an infinite universe, the Kingdom will remain, even if it is not an active forum-based community.
John
King of Novasolum

There is
still lots of green space on the map.
Although with all due respect to those who considered Giess to be a "phantomghostplanet" (all too true at this time), I've personally been in favor of multiple "planets".
Everything else on the shelf for the moment, Hesam needs to be applauded for his decisive action.

Cheers thanks Jacobus, but the real applauds should go to Will who managed to build a new forum within two days. I merely ensured the concept didn't get dropped.

Oh men, every time I am away for more than a day I miss something important. I'll be honoured to take a part in reconstructing mnn...

Can you please use another abbreviation other than MNN, as the Micronational News Network is clearly associated with MN.net. We specifically asked for our proprietary property to be respected, as well as our decision to shutdown MN.net. Creating a new forum called "MNN" to "replicate" Micronations.net/MNN and asking us for all the relevant files, including proprietary property, is clearly disrespecting that request.
I'm disappointed to see that after seven years of providing all of you with some of the core services used by micronationalists, you are so readily disrespecting our decision.
As I said to Will over email, please get your own brand. The intent of the co-owners was and is not to give you the use of our brand. We are not lending our legacy to any particular group, MCS-based, INS-based, or otherwise.
The world will not end if you create something unique .
Thank you kindly,
CC: INS "MNN" forums
PS: Just to be absolutely clear, this means that no one, Micras or the INS, has permission to use the MN.net identity; that is the decision of the MN.net co-ownership. So back off and create your own legacy under a new identity, please and thank you.
