Micras.org Query on Behalf of Anthony Newton
Posted on behalf of Anthony Newton:
Hi folks - not sure who to contact but I can’t view the forums with the net restrictions in place on my PC... but here in Australia I started my own micronation NEWTONIA a while ago & it fell by the wayside a tad... recently tho back & bigger with an idea to showcase micronations as an art installation. So my query is: ANY current micronations STILL ACTIVE pls advise sites, downloads, etc to my email newtonia@fictionym.com & if anyone has merchandise/ notes/ coins/ etc - pls advise as they would be great on display. Thanks
"After reading the “Lonely Planet Guide To Micronationsâ€, I was inspired to delve further into the phenomenon & begin crafting my own. I believe that the odd propensity & popularity of micronations has never really been explored in the media, unfortunately as most of them do not survive for very long & are regarded as poor quality. Yet in Australia, there seems to be an even more powerful desire than anywhere else on Earth to make micronations… & despite the lack of long-term efforts, those that have survived are still quite prominent.
Over its rich history, the area of micronations has provided commentary on everything from war to law to politics & the deep problems some people have with these ideals & their attempts to change things at least in their own way & their own lives, giving thoughtful insight to generations and exposing millions to a unique art form.
It is was originally meant to be tongue in cheek, but now my wish to is to bring the concept that these people produce their own countries - separate from their native soil yet obviously intrinsically tied to it – to the public. This will be an entirely non-profit venture & indeed I likely stand to loose a substantial amount of money getting this vision to the public.
With your help, I can not only showcase this strange & unique medium, but help it thrive."
