Fallout Boy want Sealand gig
The latest in micronational news from MTV:
http://www.lavalon.info/forum/la-monde- ... aland-gig/†'Fall Out Boy Are Taking A Break … Unless Sealand Calls'
I wanna play the first fest in Sealand,' Pete Wentz says of the micro-nation off the coast of England.
…
Yo, I want to go to Sealand. … That is the craziest kind of story ever! I wanna play the first fest in Sealand,†FOB bassist Pete Wentz laughed. “The only thing I'm worried about is that the dude may shoot us, and I know we'll be paid in native currency. We'll be like, 'We want 1 million Sealand bucks,' and he'll be like, 'I'll double it. I'll give you 2 million,' because the dude is just printing them.â€
…
“Of course, we would totally do it,†he said. “As long as passports, safe entry and a lot of Sealand bucks are guaranteed.â€
Re: Fallout Boy want Sealand gig
Fall Out Boy was one of the coolest gigs* I've been to.
I guess its location fits in nice with the theme of their latest video.
*not technically a gig, it was more of a concert cos it was in an arena, but that's not the point.

I don't like Sealand's name, and I don't like Fall out boy.
Re: Fallout Boy want Sealand gig
I also dislike the rather shitty name of "Sea-land" which is essentially what it is. It distresses me with its plain idiocy.
However, I heart FOB.

Stupidity isn't exclusive to people we hate.

If that was referring to my post, don't worry, I got the Mærsk-related reference. I was talking from a geographical view, as I do a lot around here surprisingly, rather than an historical one

As head of a cartographical society, that's probably a good thing

Indead, that's just confusing. Roy Bates should've named it 'New Sealand' for clarity's sake

That bastard Bates is trespassing on Crown property.
Re: Fallout Boy want Sealand gig
I was under the impression the British government had abandoned the platforms whilst they were still outside of their territorial waters. Only more recently with the expansion of British territorial waters did they technically return to British administration.
Not that I'm supporting theft or Sealand, just that that's what I had read. It's all sketchy at best. But then most of this hobby was originally based around sketchy legalities...

I'm not sure you forsake ownership of a structure merely by neglecting its upkeep. That is to say I wouldn't class an abandoned structure like that particular sea fort as being covered by maritime laws of salvage as it is a solid structure that does not float as such as it is embedded in the ground by a massive concrete pillar.

Re: Fallout Boy want Sealand gig
I thought it was just sitting on the sea floor, not embedded into it
in which case what makes it more than a sunken boat? because they floated originally did they not?
so it's a sunken boat in all technicality
and if you inhabit a place for 12 years without being questioned about it/paying bills etc, don't you own it? squatters rights? do they apply there (probably not)
